I Will Always Be Here

A/N: Hey everyone! Hope you guys liked the last chapter. To be honest, I liked Draco's letters more than those of Hermione, and I guess that's because it was easier for me to write Draco's letters. Draco has a complex personality, and I guess that's what kind of makes it easier to express his feelings in the letters, which is weird, I know. Anyways, this oneshot is way different than the previous ones. I hope you won't get confused while reading this, but even if you do, everything will be revealed. Read the A/N at the end to find out when the next oneshot will be out. On with the chapter!

Draco gulped as he entered his office. He didn't know whether he was doing the right thing or not.

It wasn't too late to just forget it and leave the room. But no, he had to do it. It wouldn't hurt to try again.

He wasn't sure when she had told him to make the spare room in their house his office. But now, he was glad that he did it.

Draco rummaged through his drawers, he was becoming more and more impatient as each second passed.

Finally, after three minutes which seemed to him as three hours, he found the item he was looking for.

Nobody knew about it. Nobody knew what he was about to do. Nobody knew that the item in his hands even existed.

He closed his eyes as he heard someone laughing in the living room. They had no idea what he was about to do. He knew that he should tell them, but...

No. He had to do this first.

He uncorked the vial of potion and hesitated. It could change his whole life. But he was willing to take the risk.

He had to do this.

For her.

For them.

He looked at the vial, and slowly brought it up to his mouth. Three drops. Three drops were sufficient. For a moment, nothing happened.

Just as he was about to give up, he felt somebody's presence behind him.

"Draco?"

-----------

"Dad!" Scorpius shouted and ran towards him. "You know what Lyra did? She almost destroyed my new broom! Scold her, dad!"

Draco chuckled and looked at their children. "Why did you do that, Lyra? You know that we bought that broom just a few days ago."

"He ate all the apples, dad! He knows how much I love them, and he didn't even leave at least one for me. Scold him, dad!" Lyra exclaimed.

Draco sighed. It was nothing new. He had to deal with this almost everyday. Scorpius was as stubborn as his sister, and they both refused to apologise to the other person.

And the fact that he loved apples just as much as Scorpius and Lyra did, didn't help the matter at all.

"Scorpius, why do you have to do that?" He looked at the almost thirteen year old boy. Scorpius was just like his father. Blond hair, grey eyes, and the famous Malfoy smirk.

But he had his mother's smile, and he loved reading books just like her. Lyra was a perfect mixture of the two. She too had his blond hair, but they were slightly wavy as well. And she had her mother's warm brown eyes.

Both of them had a habit of reading books, and playing Quidditch as well. The two were seekers just like their father for their respective house teams.

"I was hungry, dad. You can't blame me. Besides, we can buy more apples, can't we? She didn't have to destroy my broom." Scorpius rolled his eyes.

"Almost destroy your broom, Scorpius. Do not accuse me of something I didn't do." Lyra told him.

"I am your elder brother, Lyra. Show some respect." Scorpius scowled at her.

"By the way you act, it doesn't seem like that. As an elder brother, you should listen to me and do everything as I say." Lyra glared at him.

"Scorpius, apologise to your sister right now." Draco told him.

"No." He crossed his arms and looked away.

Draco sighed. "Lyra, apologise to your brother right now."

"No." She crossed her arms and looked away.

"Why do I even bother?" Draco muttered. He looked at them and sighed again. They were awfully stubborn.

Just as he was about to walk away, Lyra turned towards her brother. "Hey, Scorp. You remember you told me that we would read Quidditch Through The Ages together?"

"Yeah, let's read it right now." He grinned at her and they went back to their room.

"Wait, weren't they arguing with each other just a few minutes ago?" Draco shook his head. "These children and their mood swings."

"They get that from you, Draco, you know?" He turned around to see Hermione grinning at him. His eyes widened and he stood frozen for a few moments.

"Hermione!" He hugged her tightly. "You are finally here. You don't know how scared I was. I have been working on it for about a month and now... Y-you are- I can't believe- They need to know, I-I- I missed you so much..." Draco was on the verge of crying.

"Shh... It's okay, Draco. I know. But I am here now, aren't I?" She rubbed his back gently. "But you do know that I-"

"I know. I know that- but this is the closest I could get. I know I have failed you-" He pulled away from her.

"You didn't fail me, Draco. You have worked so hard for this, and I am proud that you didn't give up." Hermione kissed his cheek.

"You have no idea how much I love you, Mrs Malfoy." Draco kissed her forehead.

----------

"He is doing it again!"

Lyra looked up from the book to see her brother pacing in front of the bed. "He is doing what, Scorpius?"

"This. Acting like s-she... I am scared, Lyra. This is not good for him." Scorpius clutched his head and sat down next to her on the bed.

"Scorpius, just give him some time-" She placed her hand on his shoulder.

"Time? It has been so long, Lyra. He has to know the truth." He exclaimed.

Lyra sighed. "He knows the truth, Scorpius! He was there when it happened. Do you think it's easy for him? She was his-"

"I know, Lyra, I know. It is hard for him, but... We have to do something." Scorpius stood up. "Did you hear him talking a few moments ago? He said that he loves her, Lyra. And that he missed her. He thinks he is talking to her but... It's not really-"

Lyra cut him off. "Scorp, please understand. We can't do anything. You saw how happy he looked when we were talking to him. Do you want to ruin his happiness?"

Scorpius shook his head. "We have to go and tell him that it's not real. He has to know the truth. We need to stop this!

"And why is that?" She asked him.

"Because he needs to understand that she is not coming back!" He shouted.

"That she is gone!" He threw the pillow on the floor.

Scorpius looked at his sister and sighed. "That she is dead."

(A/N: If you are confused, don't worry, everything will be revealed. Also, PLEASE DON'T HATE ME if you understood what's happening in the oneshot. I am sorry!)

---------

Draco looked at Hermione as they heard their children's conversation. She was sitting calmly next to him but was gazing at their room.

"He thinks I don't understand all of this." Draco muttered.

Hermione placed her hand on his shoulder and squeezed gently. "He is just a child, Draco. Scorpius and Lyra don't know about this. They have no idea. You can't blame them."

Draco nodded. "I am not blaming them, Hermione. I am not even angry at him for thinking that I am pretending as if you are here."

"I think it is time that we, or rather you, tell them the truth." Hermione told him. She didn't want Draco to hide this.

"You sure? I mean what if it failed? It won't be good then." Draco said.

"We have to do this, Draco. And besides, it worked this time, didn't it? I am sure it will work even when you tell them." Hermione stood up and held her hand out to him.

"Alright, then." Draco nodded and led her towards their children's room. The door was slightly open and they could see them arguing with each other.

"SHUT UP, SCORPIUS! JUST SHUT UP. Please." Lyra shouted but her voice broke at the end. "P-please, Scorp. I k-know it's not r-right, but l-let him be happy..." She looked away from him.

"Oh, Lyra..." Scorpius sighed and hugged his sister. "I am so sorry, I did not want to make you cry. I just- I am sorry."

He hugged her tighter as she started crying on his chest. It wasn't easy for anyone of them, he knew that, and yet he didn't think twice before bringing up that topic.

Seeing his own sister cry brought tears to his eyes well. No, he shook his head. He couldn't cry now, she needs him and he would be strong for her.

Perhaps he could again go into the drawing room at night, after making sure his sister and father was asleep, cast the Muffliato charm around him and cry as much as he wanted, just like he usually did ever since that had happened.

He stiffened when he saw his father enter their room and clear his throat. Lyra immediately pulled away from him and wiped her face.

"Dad-" She started but her voice croaked.

Draco walked towards them, noticing how Scorpius refused to meet his eyes. "I-I just read a sad book, dad, nothing more, and I just started crying and-" Lyra started but he cut her off.

"I heard everything, Lyra, everything. You don't have to make up an excuse." He smiled at her and then looked at his son.

Finally after a few moments, Scorpius sighed and looked up at him. "I am sorry-"

"I am not angry at you, Scorp. You spoke the truth, but, you should have talked to me before saying all of this, you know?" When he nodded, Draco continued, "For your information, I was not pretending that she is here. I know that she is not here. And that, Hermione is...dead, I know."

Not giving them a chance to answer, he said, "I want to tell you both something. Please sit down, and don't interrupt me."

They nodded and sat down on the bed. Draco sighed and, looked beside him. She was here, with them.

"I made a 'Remember Me' potion around a month ago. It's like a better version of the resurrection stone. If I drink it, then I will be able to see Hermione, as she was before." He said.

Scorpius' jaw dropped while Lyra just blinked at him, but thankfully neither interrupted him. "I took that potion today, before you two argued because of those apples... And, I saw her. You thought I was just pretending, but no Scorp, she was there, with me."

Lyra looked at her brother, and then again at him. "Does that mean-"

"No. She is not alive, if that's what you are asking. As I said, it's a better version of the resurrection stone. I can touch her, and if she touches me, I can feel that too. But, she's not really solid. Yes, I didn't feel anything at first, but then, slowly I felt a slight pressure. And, if you concentrate hard enough, you can eventually feel that pressure turning into something warm and soft. It wouldn't be like before, but at least it's something. It would feel almost real." Draco finished.

"Almost." Scorpius looked up at his father. "Almost real."

Draco nodded. "Why didn't you ever tell us?" Lyra asked him.

"I didn't want to get your hopes up. I tried using it twice before today, and the potion didn't work nicely. I could barely feel her presence let alone see her." He shook his head. "I decided that I would try again one last time today, and if it didn't work, I would tell you both immediately. I didn't want to give up, whenever I felt like this won't work, I reminded myself that I had to do it, specially for you two. So today, I drank the potion, and nothing happened for a few moments. I was about to give up when I felt her presence, and I-I heard her say my name."

Scorpius stood up and hugged his father tightly. "I-I am so s-sorry, dad. You were trying so hard and then I j-just... I am so sorry." He started crying.

Lyra stood up and joined them. Draco smiled at his children. "It's not your fault, Scorp. You don't have to apologise."

He pulled away from them and wiped his son's tears. "Would you both like to see her?" They quickly nodded and Draco accioed that potion's vial towards him. "Here. Three drops each, okay?"

They did as he said and gave the bottle back to him. When she didn't appear in front of them, they looked at him.

"Dad-" Scorpius started but stopped as he finally saw her.

"Scorpius, Lyra. I missed you both." Hermione smiled at them. They hugged her tightly and tried their best to not cry. "Mum..." Lyra whispered.

Draco smiled sadly as he looked at them. Quickly wiping a tear that had escaped from his eyes, he cleared his throat. "So I am the odd one out now, huh?"

Scorpius chuckled and gestured for him to join them. Draco wasted no time in doing that, sighing contentedly.

A few minutes later:

"Draco, Lyra, Scorp, I want to talk to you three about something very important." Hermione said as she looked at them.

"I want you to three to go and talk to them. Apologise and, mend your friendship with them as well." She looked at them.

Draco knew who she was talking about when she said 'them'. But that didn't mean he would do it. "No, there's no way I am going to do that. It was clearly his fault that-"

"Draco." Hermione interrupted him. "We both know that it wasn't. It was my choice and I did that. I know that you blame him as well as yourself, but let me tell you one thing, Draco Lucius Malfoy. I do not blame either of you. If anyone was responsible, then it was that death eater. So, don't you dare blame either Harry or yourself." She glared at him.

"It's been so many years since I met you, and yet you still manage to scare me." Draco chuckled as their children grinned.

Their grandmother, Narcissa, had told them how Hermione had punched Draco in their third year.

"Please. You three have to do this." When they didn't reply, she added, "Otherwise I won't talk to you all." They were about to say something, but she stopped them. "You may drink the potion, but I won't even look at you all. If you don't want that, then do as I say."

Draco looked at their children, and they slowly nodded. "Okay. We will do that."

----------

Knock, knock.

Ginny quickly opened the door and her eyes widened. "Draco..." Her eyes watered as she looked at the children. "Scorp, Lyra... Come, please come inside."

She stepped aside to let them enter. It had been so long since she had seen them. Not believing that they were really here, she pinched herself. She was glad when she got to know that she wasn't dreaming.

"Wea-Potterette, please call Potter and your children. We want to talk to you all." Draco said, his eyes fixed on the floor.

Ginny grinned when he called her that name. She quickly call the kids and laughed when James almost fell on the stairs as he ran towards them.

"Harry! Look who is here." Ginny called her husband. Lily led Scorpius, Lyra and her brothers to her room.

Draco sighed as Harry came into the room. He had dark circles under his eyes, his hair as messy as always. But what was different this time, was his state. He was not looking the same as he did when Draco had last seen him.

He looked the same as Draco did in his sixth year.

"What, Gin- Draco?" Harry's stopped as he saw his friend standing his living room. Former friend, Harry reminded himself.

"Pot-Harry..." Draco sighed. Hermione had convinced them to call each other by their first names before their wedding, and he only called him Potter when he wanted to tease him. But he had refused to call Ginny by her first name. "I-I wanted to talk to you both. And, I am sure that Scorpius and Lyra will be talking about the same thing to James, Albus and Lily right now."

He held out his hand to his former enemy. "I am sorry for whatever I said to you both that d-day."

Flashback

"Hermione!" Draco shouted as he saw Hermione pushing Harry to the ground, the spell aimed for him hitting her.

Harry immediately got up, and stunned the death eater. Draco ran towards his wife, catching her before she fell to the floor.

"D-Draco..." She whispered. Draco looked at Harry who shook his head. Neither knew which dark spell that death eater had used on her, but it was a bit similar to Sectumsempra. The only difference was that it was even worse than that.

"Hermione- why did you- wait, we will take you to St Mungo's right now. I-I-" Harry started but Hermione cut him off.

"Harry, p-please call my children. Please... I-I don't have much time..." Hermione coughed at the end.

Harry, knowing better than to argue, immediately sent his patronus to McGonagall.

"Hermione..." Draco's voice croaked. Her head was in his lap, one of his hands were around her shoulders, the other clutching her hand.

"Dra-Draco... I l-love y-you... Remember that. Always." She tried to smile but instead ended up grimacing in pain.

"N-nothing is going to happen to you, Hermione. You'll be fine. W-we are going to St Mungo's r-right now... And then y-you will be f-fine. You will be fine." Draco's voice croaked as he tried his best to not cry. She will be fine, he convinced himself.

"D-draco, I-I don't have much t-time..." Hermione faltered at the end. She squeezed his hand lightly, and asked, "The k-kids?"

Draco looked at Harry, who replied, "I-I sent my patronus. They should be here soon." But even he knew that it would take them at least eleven minutes to arrive here.

"T-take out y-your mobile, Draco..." When he didn't do that, she added, "Dra-" But stopped immediately as she was hit with a wave of pain.

He immediately took out his mobile, and opened the voice recorder app when she told him. He knew what she was going to do.

She was going to record a message for him and the kids.

As she did that, Draco looked at Harry who was contacting his wife. He was crying, just like him.

Harry was losing his best friend, but Draco? He was losing his life, his love, his everything.

When Hermione was done, she squeezed his hand. "T-tell the kids that I-I am proud of them..."

"Hermione, please d-don't... They a-are coming, please w-wait, Hermione... Please..." Draco requested her as tears streamed down his face.

Hermione smiled at him, and said, "I-I am s-sorry, Draco... Tell t-them that I will a-always love them..."

Draco squeezed her hand tightly as Hermione grimaced again. "I-I never w-wanted to l-leave you or them... I l-love you, D-Draco. I-I will always l-love you."

"I love you too, Hermione. P-please don't leave me... You promised me and now... I-I won't be able to live without y-you. Please." Draco cried.

Hermione pulled his face towards her, and gave him one last kiss. "Goodbye, D-Draco..."

"Hermione..." He shook her when her hand fell on the ground, her eyes closed. "Hermione, wake up. Please d-don't joke... HERMIONE!" He shouted as his tears fell on her.

Three minutes later, Harry saw Scorpius and Lyra running towards them. He knew that there was a Quidditch match that day. Slytherin v/s Gryffindor. It was also the final match of that season, and of course, those two were playing.

His attention shifted away from them when he saw his wife and children coming towards him. Nobody could believe what had just happened.

Ginny cried as she saw Draco hugging Hermione. Scorpius was next to his father, his head on top of her stomach as he cried. Lyra was on her other side, her head on Hermione's shoulder as she hugged her.

When the Aurors approached them, Harry had to control Draco from fighting them. He wouldn't let them take away his wife from him.

Finally, when they went away, Draco pushed Harry off him. "You, Potter! This is your fault! S-she died because of you!"

"Draco-" Harry started.

"IT'S YOUR FAULT! I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU FOR THIS, POTTER! NEVER." Draco glared at him. Harry tried to step towards him but Draco shoved him.

Scorpius turned towards James and his brother and sister. "Stay away from me and my sister, Potter. Never talk to me again."

When he tried to say something, Lyra shook her head. "I hate you, James. I hate you three."

Flashback over

"I took out my anger on you, and I am sorry, Harry. Please forgive me." Draco looked down at his feet.

Harry hesitated for a moment, and then hugged him tightly. "I am sorry, Draco. Forgive me as well."

Ginny smiled as she saw them. She went towards Lily's room, and saw the kids hugging each other.

"Thank you, Hermione." She whispered.

-----------

Hermione smiled as they told her what they did. She was proud of them. Really.

"Mum, will you sleep with us tonight?" Scorpius asked her. "Please?" Lyra added.

Hermione nodded and Draco smiled. "Of course. Go to your room now. We both will be there soon."

The children smiled and ran towards their room immediately.

"You need to move on in life, Draco. It's almost been a year." Hermione told him. Draco sat down next to her and scowled.

"I will never be able to love or be with anyone else except you, Hermione. Please understand that. And if that potion is the only way to be with you, then I don't have any problem." He squeezed her hand.

"Why did you never gave up on that potion?" She asked him.

"You know I was in depression, and working on that potion helped me." He sighed. "They told me that you were gone, I didn't believe that. I saw others crying, I still didn't believe that. I woke up to an empty bed, but I still didn't believe that you weren't here because I know that you will always be here with me. That's why I never gave up." Draco told her.

"I will always be here." She smiled and hugged him tightly.

--------

"You should make that potion for everyone." Hermione said as she looked their sleeping children. The two were lying between her and Draco.

"Yeah. I will sell them through Malfoy Industries." Draco said. He shifted closer to her, and kissed her forehead. "I hope you know that I will always love you."

"I know, and I love you too, Draco." She smiled back at him.

"It's a miracle that the potion worked." Draco whispered and placed his arm on her waist.

Maybe miracles do happen.

A/N: That's it for this oneshot. It was 3700+ words. Hope you guys liked it. I know it wasn't a happy one, but I tried to not make it too sad. The ending was a bit rushed, and I am sorry for that.
