Chapter 12

Thomas was walking back to school, again with Logan. The two had walked together a lot more, now that Roman was constantly rehearsing with someone. It had been two weeks since they first began walking and everyone was preparing for two things. One, it was the end of term in a week which would just so happened to tie with a certain purple-haired emo's' birthday. Two, the cast calls would come out today.

"Do you know who's been casted, Lo?" Thomas asked, making Logan look up from his news article that he'd been reading on his phone.

"Hmm? Oh, yes, I have that knowledge." Logan replied.

Thomas waited but, when his friend didn't continue speaking, he prompted, "Could you tell me who has been casted?"

Logan smirked at him, raising a cocky eyebrow. "I'm afraid I can't, Thomas."

"Oh, the sorrow!" Thomas laughed, placing a hand to his head. "How will I be able to survive without knowing?"

"You continue breathing?"

"It was a rhetorical question, Lo."

"Oh, right. Sorry."

.:*:.

The pair had just entered the school grounds when Patton popped up. "You guys haven't seen Virgil, have you?" Asked the fatherly figure.

"No, Patton. We assumed he'd walk with Roman or Remus to continue rehearsals." Logan answered quickly.

"You sure he didn't just get to school early?" Questioned Thomas, tilting his head slightly.

Patton sighed, shaking his head. "I don't think so, he's not in his homeroom or the library..."

Thomas shrugged. "Maybe he's getting to school late?"

Roman had managed to push his way through a group of students, approaching his friends with a dramatic flick of his head. "Can you believe it, the emo nightmare ghosted me this morning!"

"He did?" Squeaked Patton with worry.

"He did!" Echoed Roman, not catching onto the panic in Patton's' tone. "I had to walk with my brother and Janus! Hot Topic wasn't even picking up his phone and I called him four times!" Roman snorted indignantly. "I even sent him text messages but he just didn't show up. Did he walk with any of you?"

Thomas shook his head. "I walked with Logan."

Logan nodded, confirming Thomas's' point as he folded his arms with concern. The logical one glanced around the courtyard. "There's a high chance we'll run into him inside. I suggest we enter the school building and wait for lessons to start because he'll have to have shown up by then."

"Good idea, LoLo," Patton agreed, also looking around the mess of students.

"Yes, marvellous suggestion, Specs! Come, Thomas, let's see if Panic! At The Everywhere is in the homeroom." Roman ordered, taking Thomas's' wrist and pulling him through the crowds.

.:*:.

It had been a while since Thomas and Roman had gotten to talk. Somehow, Roman managed to make sure the time they did spend together was never awkward with a constant stream of conversation, and Thomas found himself missing his best friend, even though he was right ahead of him.

Virgil still hadn't arrived when Mr Huggins began to talk the register. The homeroom teacher skipped over Virgil's' name casually.

This caused Roman to frown and raise his hand.

"Eliza Ham- Yes, Mr Milton?" The teacher said, noticing Roman's' hand rather quickly.

"Sorry, Sir, but where is Virgil?" Roman asked, lowering his hand.

Mr Huggins paused for a moment. "H-His father called in today, saying Virgil wouldn't be able to make it to school today." The teacher smiled slightly. "Why are you so concerned, Roman? Miss your boyfriend?"

It was no secret in this school that Roman was gay and he somehow got away with it. The class snickered in a friendly way as Roman gasped and tossed his head. "Me and that emo nightmare?! Never, Sir! It's just we're getting the casting calls today, so I assumed he'd be in."

Now the class were whispering to each other, reminding Thomas yet again that the plays were big in this school. It was so hilariously opposite to all the clichés that he'd constantly forget.

"Ah, Roman, of course. No, I'm afraid Virgil is preoccupied today, but I'm sure you can visit your boyfriend after school." Mr Huggins shrugged with a smug smile as the class were set off in giggles again.

Roman went bright red and huffed loudly. Thomas rolled his eyes, patting his best friend on his shoulder.

.:*:.

Virgil still hadn't shown up by lunch and Patton had found Roman and Thomas in the cafeteria, sat down, swivelled to face them and had instantly said, "Is Virgil here yet?"

Roman shook his head. "Apparently he's too busy today." He explained through a mouth of ham sandwich.

Logan had pulled up at that exact moment and frowned. "Roman, please refrain from speaking with a full mouth. It's an easy way to spread germs, not to mention highly unattractive." Roman rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, sorry, Pat. Virgil hasn't been in all day." Thomas said sympathetically.

"It's possible he could be sick." Logan said.

"Yeah, but if he were sick, he could've answered my calls!" Whined Roman petulantly.

Thomas swallowed his mouthful of chips. "He called me earlier."

Patton gasped. "Did he? What did he say?"

Thomas shook his head, swallowing the final bit of his food. "He called me in the middle of English. I got my phone taken away and I won't be able to get it back till after period eight."

"Ooh, too bad, man!" Roman said sympathetically.

Patton sagged with worry.

Logan seemed unmoved by the emo's' absence, shrugging slightly. "We can visit after school if we can get his address."

"Oh, I know where he lives, I think!" Said Patton. "After the casting calls, we can go find him!"

The three others nodded and the table continued to eat quietly.

.:*:.

Today's' drama club would be different. It would only last period seven and eight, and wouldn't run after school. Roman had explained that to Thomas on the walk there, along with explaining how bloody hard he'd been working on his Gabriel lines and if he didn't get the part then, oh my god, the world would know about this outrage.

Remy was on stage, beckoning for everyone to take a seat. He lowered the coffee from his lips and took a brief moment to count everyone. He frowned, recounted, and then his frown deepened.

"Is Virgil in, today?" Asked the teacher.

Roman sighed loudly and audibly. "No, the emo has vanished without a trace today!"

Thomas could see Joan raise their eyebrows at him and Thomas shrugged in reply.

"Shame," Remy said, swivelling his hip to one side as he took another sip. "So, I first want you to hug everyone else who is auditioning for your possible role. Hug it all out, kids."

The actors laughed, getting up and reaching for each other. Thomas noticed that most people hugged whoever they managed to trap in their arms. Roman had probably hugged everyone, even Remus, before he sat down.

"I used to hug Virgil and Logan to annoy them when we had to do that." He whispered to Thomas, making his friend laugh.

Remy waited for everyone to be settled before he pulled out a notebook. "Alright, girls, same as usual; I'll read the cast starting from those with the lesser roles before Juliet. Then, boys, it'll be your turn."

.:*:.

Period seven had just come to an end when Remy finally listed who got to play Juliet. "And the role of Juliet shall go to... Valerie Knight!"

Everyone applauded, even those whose faces were sour and sulky.

"Alright, men, your turn now!"

.:*:.

"Romeo goes to... Remus Milton!" Remy said and Remus jumped to his feet.

"Hah! I'm amazing! You can all suck it, especially you, Janus!" Remus bellowed with a broad grin. Everyone laughed, except Janus who just had his face in his hands. He had his 'default' snake face painted on today, prompting Remus to yell, "You slippery, slimy snek boy!" Janus just pulled his bowler lower over his face.

Remy grinned, and cleared his throat. "And then, the part of Gabriel shall go to, of course, Roman Milton!"

Roman jumped up to join his brother in a drastic bow, the two of them soaking up all the praise. They had known they'd get the parts, obviously, especially when Remus picked Roman up, Roman didn't protest and just grinned proudly. Thomas shook his head slowly, trying to stop his growing smirk.

"Milton's', stop! I'd like you all to know that the part of Lucifer goes to the one who sadly couldn't join us, today, but I'm sure we can tell him when he gets back-"

"Who didn't join us today?" Asked Roman as Remus put him down.

Remy just looked at him. "Virgil...?"

"Ooh, right, yeah." Roman nodded, sitting back down in his seat. Then he stood up. "Wait, Virgil got the part of Lucifer?!"

"Yes, Mr Milton."

Roman opened his mouth to say more when Thomas tugged on his arm, pulling him back to his seat. Roman pouted, much to the amusement of the club.

Remy continued to speak, wishing everyone a good time and reminding them that the drama club wouldn't be on anymore until after the holidays, so everyone should have a great holiday and he'll see them all soon - Patton appeared next to Thomas.

"Let's got tell Virgie! He has to know!"

Logan was now on the other side of Roman. "Agreed. Come one, you two, let's go."
