LUCKY

I stand in a field littered with flowers, my toes getting tickled by the grass. Drakkon is behind the cabin, chopping wood for the fire. It has gotten colder after a few months, and winter will soon be here, but instead of seeing plants dying and days get shorter, I see a new beginning.

We have been traveling between Earth and Le'vris for three months now, spreading the word of what has happened and trying to get support. Le'vris has no central government– no kings and queens, no presidents, so we depend on the help of compassionate individuals. Everyone here builds their own destiny and prosecutes their own offenders.

The dragons that were tormenting Earth were captured, and are undergoing treatment for their delusions. I haven't had contact with them, and Drakkon is so protective that I doubt I ever will.

Drakkon and I often travel between towns to introduce ourselves to Le'vris. Although I feel like a lab rat with their stares and whispers, this is something that has to be done. They must know that humans aren't so alien, and they can co-exist with us.

Jexis' health has taken a turn for the worse, but the old man insists on being on the team and uniting the planets.

We've gotten donations from all over. Food, medicine, tools, and manpower. Few humans have already ventured out of the underground and claimed homes. The leaders of clans are scrambling to form some kind of government to take care of crime.

Drakkon and I have two homes now: Earth and Le'vris. Opening the portal is always a terrifying and dangerous experience, but we always make it work. Since we're people of interest, two fathers of fire patrol the small land we call home. Drakkon insisted on doing it himself, but I can't have him losing sleep continuously.

It has been incredibly messy, but we have already gotten so much done.

I sit on the grass and flip through the pages of my diary. I study my notes and let my mind run wild. An idea surfaces, and I scribble it down fast.

"Are you trying to start a fire?" Drakkon asks, watching me flip the page and write furiously.

"I got an idea," I say, still not looking over my boulder. "The only reason you and the others were sent on that mission was to address the declining birthdate, right?"

"Yes."

"We can try again. We can bring together Earth and Le'vris by mixing them and building families."

Drakkon chuckles. "That will be impossible, Lucky. Humans are terrified of us, and rightfully so. We rained violence on them."

"Give it a few years," I reply, still scribbling. "Let humans reclaim the surface, find homes, jobs, comfort. Let the fear of dragons fade. Then we'll introduce this new opportunity to find love, create a family, escape poverty, and explore this beautiful new planet."

"I do not want to disappoint you, but this sounds unlikely. The cultures are too different. Look at you and I. There were many misunderstandings and heartache."

"We'll lecture both the men and women. They'll learn how to communicate before they're mixed. This will be The Matching Program. Isn't it exciting to just—" I forget the rest of my sentence when I look up and find him bare-chested, his sweat listening in the sun from his labor.

Drakkon notices my distraction. He smirks and lowers himself until I'm trapped under his weight.

"See something you like?" he smirks.

The wind flips through the diary beside us, and my mind is just as erratic.

"I see something I love."

He sweeps me into his arms, jolting me as he runs to the back of the house. There's a stream there, covered by looming trees that cast shade. We've gone swimming here a few times. I can tell why he wants to jump in after working under the sun.

He quickly clarifies that he has more than bathing in mind when he strips me down to my underwear, only leaving my bra on. He sets me down where the water reaches my waist, and dives under. His head becomes submerged, and I watch a few bubbles surface.

I look around nervously in search of bystanders, but no one ever goes this deep into our territory. I'm observing a shift in the bushes, gripping Drakkon's shoulders anxiously, when I feel him lick me. The cool water seems to evaporate as heat thrums through my half-naked body.

He's there for an entire minute, sucking and licking like all he needs for oxygen is me. His hands grip my bare buttcheeks, squeezing hard.

I look up at the clear blue sky. My mind is the only cloudy thing here. I wonder how I got so lucky.

The sweet taste of release is close, but Drakkon hasn't come up for air in a while, and I'm nervous. Still delirious with pleasure, I tug at his shoulders, trying to tell him to come up to breathe, but all he does is spank me and shove his tongue into my entrance, sucking anything else he can reach with his lips.

His eagerness throws me over the edge. I toss my head back and groan to the sky. My body trembles, but Drakkon's firm grip on my butt keeps me afoot.

He surfaces, takes a big inhale, and then he's kissing me. His lips are salty, still coated with the taste of me.

He embraces me and walks to the edge where he sits and pulls me to his lap.

"You're so bad," I groan and snuggle into his embrace.

"I had to reward you for your hard work," he chuckles and kisses my forehead. "That little mind of yours is always running, but whatever your schemes are, I will support them." He strokes my wet, bare thigh, and we stay in each other's embrace until the wind dries us off. I'm wrapped in his warmth.

"Do you want to go on a flight with me?"

I laugh. "Well, we would need to find my pants first."

"Silly Terran," he says. "You think I'd let you flash your jewels upon all of Le'vris?"

He helps me off his lap and pulls my clothes back on. Then, he clutches me tightly in his arms and soars high.

Being up here is always exhilarating. I love the views and the sharp wind. We fly toward the sun, not sure what awaits there, but ready for it. We have already overcome so much.

We don't have to prepare for the future; the future has to prepare for us, because we're coming hot and furious.

"Higher!" I say, and Drakkon is happy to oblige. I laugh as we soar to an altitude we never have before.

I love the man that's parading me in the sky. We will build a family together, and then I will help form families between the planets, so many others could share what we have.

"The tables have turned, my love. You grew in fear of the blue, but now you are the master of the skies," Drakkon says.

I smile. Master of the skies? Not quite. I guess I just got... a bit lucky, to have met the man that sets me on fire.
