Chapter 6

In upper yard Chopper was badly injured from a recent fight and was tending to Gan Fall and his bird Pierre while Robin, Zoro, and Nami explored the island and Sanji, Usopp, and Luffy finished pounding the priest Satori to a pulp and once again began heading to the sacrificial altar.

"... I wonder how Kari's doing." Sanji mumbled, worried about her health. Luffy and Usopp shrugged.

"She and Chase are probably being worshiped right now or something." Usopp stated.

Luffy chuckled. "Yeah, she's fine Sanji. Don't worry about them." He said. Sanji sighed, puffing a bit of smoke out of his mouth.

"Guess you're right. The people did seem to like them." He stated then kept going forward. Soon an explosion sounded in the distance followed by a loud roar.

"Whoa! That was awesome! Do you see that smoke?" Luffy called, pointing towards the smoke cloud that was caused by the explosion. Usopp began to tremble, fearing what caused such a thing.

----------

At the sacrificial altar Robin, Nami, and Zoro saw the Merry Go and gasped. They called for Chopper, who hesitantly came out, tears and snot streaming down his face. He helped everyone on deck and explaining that they were attacked and he tried his best to protect the Merry, but she still got beat up by the priest Shura. Not long later Luffy, Sanji, and Usopp arrived at the altar happily.

Soon everyone went to the island and exchanged information and decided on what to do the next day. Not long later they heard the crack of a twig. Zoro got ready to unsheathe his swords while Usopp and Nami jumped in fear. Everyone else just stared in the direction of the sound. They heard sniffing not too far away.

"It's about time we found you." A familiar voice called. Everyone froze in shock.

"Chase?!" Nami called in confusion. Chase stepped out with a chuckle.

"I thought you guys were with Pagaya." Robin stated. "And where's Kari?"

"UP HERE!" Kari giggled then jumped over the group on her new jet board while holding onto her knapsack with her right hand. Kari landed then skid to a stop. "That was AWESOME!" Kari laughed, fixing her hair.

"WHOA! COOL! WHERE'D YOU GET THAT THING?! WHAT EVEN IS IT?!" Luffy laughed. Kari smiled.

"A Shandorian named Laki gave it to me. She also gave me a pair of jet skis. Oh, this is a jet board." Kari smiled then strapped her jet board onto her back between her and her knapsack. Luffy blinked then Sanji sighed.

"You mean those gorillas just gave them to you?" The cook asked.

"Well, uh, you see..." Kari explained what recently happened and they were all shocked.

"KARI HOW COULD YOU JUST WILLINGLY GO WITH A BUNCH OF STRANGERS?!" Nami yelled, slightly worried for the girl. Kari huffed and crossed her arms.

"I wanted to hear their side of the story..." Kari huffed. Robin chuckled then rubbed Kari's head.

"Well, that's good." Kari looked up and in Robin's eyes.

"... Why do you remind me so much of mom?" Kari thought then smiled.

"Thank you." She said.

"Well, it doesn't matter what happened in the past. It's behind us, now we need to keep moving forward. At least we know she's okay." Zoro huffed. Usopp looked to Kari.

"So, what did you find out?" He asked.

"Well, I'm not sure you know this, but this was once part of an island in the blue sea and owned by the Shandorians. " Kari began.

"Heard it." Luffy and Nami spoke in unison.

"I'm not done. The Shandorians fought for this land for four hundred years."

"Heard it." Nami and Luffy spoke again.

Kari growled. "LEMME FINISH! Anyway, when I was with the Shandorians and on angel island I found a relic in relation to dragons." Kari sighed. "There was only one stone tablet. I couldn't really figure out what it said because it was too far away and I didn't wanna offend anyone by messing with it." Kari sighed.

Robin rested her head on her palms. "So, dragons really were here at one point." She hummed. Kari nodded.

"Yes. I'm not sure how old that stone tablet was, but it was probably over a few hundred years old." The girl sighed then leaned on the tree behind her.

"Well, anyways. Let's go ahead and set up camp here. I'll cook us up some food in the meantime." Sanji suggested and everyone agreed.

"... I'll hunt for my own food." Chase huffed.

Kari whined. "Chase, come on. At least try Sanji's cooking." Chase sighed.

"Alright, alright. Yeesh." The dragon gave in to his sister. Time passed and Kari was sitting down since she finished her part of the work. She closed her eyes and began to recall what the Shandorians said before she was able to leave to rejoin her crew.

----------

Kari looked around with wide eyes. "It's dirt... Not island cloud..." Kari said in awe. Wyper walked up to be standing next to her.

"Don't just stare. We came here to fight. After that you can rejoin your crew. But keep in mind we will not hesitate to kill you if you attack us." Kari twitched then smirked.

"Just try it." She challenge, glancing up to the man. Wyper growled and glared at her, looking dead center in her eyes. The child did not move.

"... You've got a lot of guts, challenging me like that." Wyper went silent for a while then chuckled. "You'll need that defiance to survive a sky warfare. You'll need the will to live." Kari nodded. "Wait, you don't know about sky warfare, right?" Kari shook her head. Wyper sighed. "You know what dials are I'm guessing."

"Yeh." Kari nodded in reply.

"The short version is basically the usage of everyday dials for battles. There are also dials like the impact dials and reject dials that take hits and use them against your opponent. The reject dial multiplies that by ten and threatens the life of both user and opponent. Usually they are strapped to the user's palms with gloves or bandages." Wyper informed. "Here. I have no need for this impact dial. You take it." Wyper gave Kari an impact dial and she put it in her bag.

Kari nodded. "Thanks. I'll use it tomorrow." Wyper nodded then they all went into battle quickly. Kari and Chase were close to the front.

----------

Kari hummed in thought as she recalled what Wyper said. She decided to use the impact dial, but she would put it on later.

"Kari, Nami, Robin! Dinner's ready!" Sanji called with his eye in the shape of a heart. "Hey, guys get your dinner!" Sanji grumbled, his eye now back to normal. He then handed everyone their plates. Even the sky knight, who was out cold nearby and being treated by Chopper, got a plate for when he was ready to eat. Kari smiled and slurped up the soup that was in her hands. Chase sniffed the soup then took a sip. He went wide eyed then slurped up all the soup in his bowl. Sanji chuckled.

"Is it good?" Kari asked happily. Chase nodded.

"Well, there's a lot more so eat your fill." Sanji stated and Chase got seconds.

"Sanji," Chase began after a while. "You think that you could teach me to cook?" Sanji looked at the dragon in slight shock.

"Well, uh.... Sure." He chuckled. Chase wagged his tail happily. The night went on and everyone was partying with the cloud wolves. Eventually everyone was out cold.

The next day everyone split up into groups. Luffy, Zoro, Robin, Chopper, and Kari were in one group while Sanji, Nami, Usopp, and Chase were in the other. Kari was not happy about being separated from her brother but it had to be done.

Kari walked close to Robin and looked around with wide eyes. She was curious about her surroundings and it clearly showed. Robin chuckled at the girl and kept a close eye on her.

"Kari, don't get too far behind now." Robin chuckled happily as she noticed Kari staring at something with Chopper.

"... Is that... A stripped root?" They said then looked at each other then back at the root. "AH!! IT MOVED!!!" They called then ran back to the group, shivering. Zoro grumbled then rubbed Kari's head while glancing around. Kari gulped. The group kept walking until they heard a hissing sound. Kari jolted then turned around. She noticed something gleaming in the distance. Kari sniffed the air and ran to tug on Robin's shirt.

"... Ma..." She said. "I-I MEAN! R-Robin," Robin looked at Kari. "We-We're surrounded." As Kari finished her sentence everyone saw a giant head of a python behind Kari and Robin. Luffy jumped up and punched it while Zoro slashed at it. That only made the giant snake mad and it began chasing everyone. Kari gulped then looked around. She was all alone. The girl shivered. "G-guys?" She whined and froze in place. Kari's fear began to grow. She sat down and pulled her knees to her chest and began to tremble. "... Don't leave me all alone... I...I'd even be okay with that lazy swordsman, Zoro... Don't leave... Please..? " Kari hiccuped sadly.

----------

Time went on and everyone had begun to fight the remaining priests. They were now about to help Luffy get up to the god Eneru when they realized Kari was missing.

"I thought she was with Robin." Zoro grumbled in annoyance.

"I thought she was with Chopper." Robin sighed.

"I thought she was with Luffy!" Chopper panicked.

"I thought she was with Zoro!" Luffy gulped. Chase was freaking out, pacing back and forth.

"This is bad. Oh man it's gonna be so hard to find her..." He mumbled and Chopper looked at him.

"Can't you smell her?" He asked while tilting his head.

"Under normal circumstances, yes. But when Kari's alone she freaks out and just stays in one place. She does this weird thing that blocks her the senses other than sight so it makes it hard for her to be found. It's kinda like a defense mechanism she developed over time." Nami grumbled in frustration.

"That's just great!" She said. Robin walked up.

"I'll go look for her. It won't be too hard. I'll come back here when I find her." With that said Robin left to search for Kari. Chase gulped then hesitantly went onwards to help his crew mates stop Eneru.

----------

Robin began to search the forest for Kari. She used her devil fruit powers to look around, making eyes bloom everywhere. She soon gasped in shock as she saw Kari, trembling in fear. Robin noticed the sad position the youngest Straw hat was in and quickly ran towards her.

"Kari," Robin called upon nearing the girl. Kari jolted then quickly looked up. The girl hiccupped and sniffled. She rushed to Robin and sobbed. "Kari, what happened."

"I-I... I don... I don banna be all alone." She said through hiccups and sobs, tears and snot streaming down her face. Robin felt a chill rush up her back. The woman sighed and held the girl.

"It's okay. I'm here." Robin soothed. She knew what being alone was like and hated the feeling. "Come on. Everyone is wondering where you are." Kari nodded and the two walked to where everyone else was.

"... Kari must have separation anxiety... Something must have happened to her... I'll do my best to help her... No one deserves to feel alone. No one..." Robin thought and offered Kari her hand. The girl took it gratefully and did not let go. Robin glanced down to Kari and grinned lightly.

----------

Once Robin and Kari arrived everyone was looking in the sky at a black cloud. Kari gulped and watched while Usopp explained to her that Luffy was up there battling a guy named Eneru who claimed to be god. Not long later the battle came to be around them and Usopp fled with Chopper to go into hiding while Nami and Robin took the injured and unconscious to a safe zone. Kari gulped and looked to Chase then to the battle.

"Luffy, you want some help?" She bellowed. Luffy shook his head.

"Nah, I'm good." He chuckled. "Go help the others." Kari nodded then rushed to help with the injured. She caught a glance at the battle every so often, her eyes glowing a dim gold each time.

After a while Enaru was flying back to his flying ship while Luffy followed close behind, shooting himself upwards using his gum-gum rocket. Only minutes later and Luffy rung the golden bell known as "The Light of Shandora" to the Shandorians. The song was so beautiful and it made everyone smile while many cried tears of joy. Time passed and almost everyone was passed out from celebrating. Kari was still awake with Chase and the Shandorian chief. The two were looking at the stone tablet that was stored in their village.

"... It's pretty ancient writing but not that ancient." Chase hummed. "At first glance it looked like Claw writing. I believe humans called it "Claw-scritch" or something way back when from what I've heard. But this is much older. It had a name but I can't recall the writing..."

"Can you read it?" Kari asked.

Chase sighed. "... No. I can't make anything out sadly." Kari frowned.

"You may take it with you if you'd like. It is no trouble." The Shandorian Chief smiled kindly and the two nodded happily. After a while the two fell asleep with their crew happily, Kari cuddling with Chopper as if he were a toy with Chase curled around her protectively.
