Midoriya sat in the surprisingly soft chair, wings wrapped around his scaly body like a blanket. His tail was nestled comfortably in his lap, and he could almost see himself making a nest here, if it weren't for the specifics of 'here'. After the heroes had realized that he was Ryuukyuu's nephew, they had quickly escorted him to the nearest police station. After that, both Auntie Ryu and his mom were contacted.
It all made sense, of course. He had been illegally using his quirk in the middle of the night, which would justify this response all on it's own. But then he developed a new aspect of his quirk, which was a whole different thing. Even if he hadn't been using his quirk illegally, it would only make sense for them to contact his guardians.
It made him a bit nervous, though. He had been hoping that he could get away with this without anyone finding out, but he supposed that was just unrealistic now. He probably would be getting in trouble for his midnight flight, both because he broke a law and he snuck out in the middle of the night. Neither of which would be aproved of by mom and Auntie Ryu.
He just had to hope that whatever punishment he got, it wasn't too bad.
He knew his mom didn't give him punishments for anything, she was too gentle and too pitying. But Inko was the exception, not the rule. Other than her, it seemed all adults liked to hand out punishments for him, even if he hadn't been the one in the wrong. So far Auntie Ryu hadn't given him any punishments, but that was because he hadn't done anything that would need it other than loosing control of his quirk, and she understood that. When she got her quirk, she had instincts too.
He probably wouldn't get in trouble for developing a fire aspect to his quirk, since he didn't get in trouble for developing the quirk in the first place. But actively choosing to go out in the middle of the night to illegally use his quirk, without any influence from his instincts? That wasn't the same, not even close.
He had simply hoped to calm his anxieties, but now they were even worse than before, thinking about how Auntie Ryu might react.
Would she be mad? Would she attack him like Kacchan did? Punish him like how his teachers used to, forced into a small, dark space? Would she hate him? Decide that she didn't want to help him become a hero after all?
She might be a hero, might be a dragon like him, might be family, but she was an adult with an authority position, and he was Midoriya. Adults didn't like him, and when they had authority they tended to use it against him, use it too hurt him.
Why had he expected any different before?
He curled up further, like a scaly green ball.
He hoped for the best, when he should know that nothing good happens to people like him.
(Like what? What had he ever done? He was a good person, wasn't he? He just wanted to be a hero, after all! Everyone did!)
He wasn't quite sure how long he sat, curled up on the soft chair, but it couldn't have been super long, because it was still dark, with no sign of getting lighter out any time soon. The door opened, the sound of a bell jingling as it did so. Instantly, Auntie Ryu came in through the door, but Inko was not there. She must still be asleep, then. It was very late, after all.
Auntie Ryu looked around for a moment, before spotting Midoriya, curled up in his wings and tail. No matter how small he tried to make himself, it would always be difficult for him to hide, now that he was a big, scaly dragon instead of a small, quirkless kid. It didn't matter, though, hiding would just prolong the inevitable, and probably make things worse.
But when she looked at him, she didn't seem mad. Upset, confused, worried, yes, but not mad.
That caught Midoriya off guard. She wasn't mad that he had blatently broken the rules? The law, even?
He lowered his wings slightly, still keeping them wrapped around his large frame.
"Izuku? Are you alright? Did you get hurt?" She asked as she approched him. He shook his head, "No, I-I'm not h-hurt..."
Auntie Ryu nodded, "Alright, good. That's good."
Midoriya didn't respond, so Auntie Ryu continued, "So, why were you flying around in the middle of the night? I know that it's fun to fly and all, but you aren't supposed to be doing it without supervision. You know that."
He nodded slowly, "I'm sorry... I'm- I won't do it again!"
Auntie Ryu gave a small sigh, "Izu, that doesn't answer my question." She didn't sound mad or disappointed, but that could easily just be a disguise so he'd be more willing to answer.
He gave an answer anyways. It wouldn't be a good idea to ignore a question, he was already in trouble as it was. "I um.... I couldn't sleep... I was um.... I was feeling nervous? About school and everything, so I couldn't sleep, and uh... Flying helps? It uh, helps me calm down when I'm nervous and stuff, and I didn't want to bother you and Mom, so... yeah... I'm sorry..."
Midoriya watched her expression carefully, watching as her expression softened slightly, "Izu, kiddo. Inko and I are both more than willing to help you out with this kind of stuff. If something's bothering you, you should come to one of us, okay?"
He blinked slowly, staring at her a moment, before nodding.
"That doesn't mean that you sneaking out like this is alright, though." Auntie Ryu said, voice firm, "Don't do it again"
"I won't!" Midoriya's response came, near instantly.
She gave a firm nod, "Good. Since it was just this one incident, and no one got hurt, the police aren't gonna do anything, so that means any punishment is up to Inko, got it?"
.....Oh.
So then he had been worried over nothing, then?
That was... relieving.
"We've got too start figuring out that fire breath of yours, though."
Right. He hadn't thought about that part.
