Every five years in the fall, the kingdom of Thaossa (Tha-o-sa) we have this big festival where dragon riders from academy of Kalron come and chose four people to attend the academy. Now you're probably wondering how these four are chosen. Well they have a crystal called the Dragonsoul. It glows a bright orange color when someone has been chosen. Some people believe the soul of the very first dragon rider and the dragon's soul are trapped inside the crystal. My father was chosen when I was a child. I've read his notes and journals he's kept. Shortly after he was chosen he died during a mission to the mountains. I was only five years old when I became an orphan. My brother Kalinth, raised me all by himself at the age of 10. We were fairly wealthy yet Kalinth didn't want anyone to know. When our father died, the village built us a cabin in the woods. Far from them. Almost like they were trying to keep us hidden. We had one friend who would visit us daily. His name is Alron. He is in his mid 30's. Anyways, that's enough about the past. Today is about celebration.
Around this time of year, Kalinth and Alron will set up a shop in the center of the the city. We sell their services to anyone who needs it. That is how they make money. They use their strength and sell it. They can build houses, repair a house, chop wood. Hell...they will even sell themselves to females who find them attractive. I always offer myself to sell well...me basically. I can offer myself to cook, clean, even watch the children. Alron and Kalinth always refuse and kept me trapped in the cabin. I was looking at myself in the reflection of the pond Alron had built for me last summer. He felt that I should be outside more and not cooped up inside the house every single day. I sighed as I watched the fish swim in the pond. I placed my index finger in the water and caused a ripple in the water. I listened to the birds chipping. Feel the sun warming my body and feeling the slight breeze move my hair. I heard footsteps behind me. A chuckle and a reflection appeared in the water. I waited for the ripple to settle. The reflection showed a tall medium built male with olive skin tone. His arms crossed over his chest. His beautiful dirty blonde hair, brown eyebrows, enchanting green eyes, his bread a little more than a stubble. His slightly dark pink lips formed a smile. "Now, what are you out here looking all sad for?". He crouched down to me. I let out another sigh of discontent. I looked to my left to face Alron. "Not now blondie." I said with no effort to engage in conversation.
Alron plopped a seat next to me. I looked at his clothes. He was wearing his navy blue jeans and a tight t-shirt that showed off his muscles for the ladies. He matched it with his black winter boots even though it is nowhere close to winter. "Come now sunshine. I can't let my favorite women be sad on a holiday." he said grabbing a rock and skidding it across in the pond. "It's not even a holiday. It's just a gathering for more guards. And I'm not even going because you two refuse me to have any fun." I pouted, hoping that would make any difference. Alton chuckled again. His laughter somehow lifting up my spirits. "Then how come I saw Kal bringing in a beautiful dress?". My eyes lit up with excitement. "Hey bunny! Come get ready! We're going to be late for the ladies" I hear my brother shout from the cabin. I looked back at Alron. "I'm going?" I asked. A nod. I smiled and kissed his cheek. "That's why you're my favorite blondie.". I got up and ran inside the cabin.
