New Beginnings

"Okay, he's coming," Mae looked out from the tree she was hiding in. "You two ready?"

"Yeah," Chi and Gicchin nodded. The small children both had their eyes focused on their target.

"Alright, remember the plan," Mae shifted on the branch slightly. "It's up to you two."

"Right!" The twins gave a nod of understanding. They silently and swiftly jumped to another tree, waiting for the right moment to strike.

After a few minutes Mae's target arrived. He looked up at the tree and sighed. "I know you are there."

Mae smirked and leapt down to meet her twin brother Gohan, "aww I was hoping to surprise you."

"Well that doesn't work cause we can always sense each other," Gohan laughed.

"Yeah you're right but..." Mae grinned. That was the moment the twins decided to attack.

Gohan was caught off guard and he dropped his books. Gicchin landed a clean punch across the jaw before Chi kicked him in the chest, knocking him back. "What the?!" Gohan stumbled trying to regain his balance.

"HAA!" Gicchin yelled powering up. He held his hands out and sent an energy blast at Gohan.

"Crap!" Gohan quickly blocked the attack but that gave Chi an opening to strike.

"This isn't exactly a good place to do this!" Gohan told Mae as he dodged and blocked the twins.

"Don't worry, there's no one here in the park," Mae looked around before looking to her children.

Gohan found an opportunity and powered up sending the children skidding against the ground. "You two really wanna fight?"

"Yeah!" Chi said with a determined look.

"We can beat you uncle!" Gicchin said bringing his hands back up.

"Alright then, let's see what you've got," Gohan said signaling for them to come to him.

Mae smiled at her children, watching them try and land blows on Gohan. Now that he gained his balance they were up against a real challenge. Mae took a step forward and accidentally stepped on a paper. "What's this?" She wondered and bent to pick it up. She skimmed over the first few lines.

My dearest Videl,
Everyday you grow more beautiful. My darling wife.

"A love letter?" Mae asked and continued to read.

Gohan noticed and turned red. "Don't read that!" He exclaimed.

"Huh?" Gicchin and Chi stopped their attack and turned to look at their mom.

"How cute!" Mae laughed as Gohan lunged forward to grab the note. Mae avoided and continued reading the letter out loud. "The most amazing woman in the world."

"Mae give it back!" Gohan demanded.

As Mae tried to read more Gohan managed to snatch the paper and shove it into his pocket. He huffed at her making her laugh. "Sorry Gohan. It's cute though. I'm sure Videl will love it."

Gohan sighed, "it's not finished yet. But thanks."

Mae helped Gohan collect his books before they, along with Chi and Gicchin, headed back to Gohan's house. The twins ran over to Pan and asked her to play with them. Soon it turned into a three way sparing match.

"Hard to believe those kids are so strong," Gohan commented. Both Pan and Gicchin turned Super Saiyan. "Chi still unable to transform?"

"Yeah, seems like her future self she uses energy similar to Jiren's," Mae nodded. "But she's still strong, just look at her."

Pan tried to strike at the younger girl but missed. Chi took the opening and kicked her into Gicchin. Before they both could recover Chi was sending energy attacks.

"Seems they are just like their parents," Gohan smiled.

"Seems so. Pan has gotten stronger too. Can she use super saiyan two yet?"

"No, not yet. Maybe one day though. She's been training with Goten actually."

"Oh really?" Mae raised her brows. "I should go visit him sometime. It's been awhile since we spared."

"You should. Hey I haven't seen dad or Vegeta around. They off training?"

"Yeah with Whis," Mae nodded. Before Gohan could ask Mae said, "I decided to stick around and train the twins."

"Oh I see," Gohan nodded. "Jiren in universe eleven?"

"Yeah, he's been there for the past week. Guess things are crazy in his universe," Mae said. She leaned back and tucked her hands behind her head. "It's strange how we've had five years of peace. Makes me think something might be lurking around the corner."

"Yeah, but hopefully not," Gohan gave a nervous laugh. "We've already been through so much."

"True, but Frieza is still out there doing who knows what," Mae said. "Also Drae has been quiet for over a year. Never know when she's gonna pop up and try and stir up trouble."

"Maybe she finally faded away for good," Gohan wondered.

"Nah, I can still feel her," Mae shook her head. "But still even if something does happen we will be ready for it. You've kept up your training right?"

"Yeah," Gohan nodded. "Mostly I worry that Grand Zen-Oh will want another tournament like the Tournament of Power."

"Oh man that would be awesome!" Mae said excitedly. Gohan just gave her a look making her laugh. "Just the idea of fighting strong opponents. Not the whole universe erasing thing."

"So have you figured out Ultra Instinct yet?" Gohan asked, changing the subject.

"No," Mae shook her head. "Even after all this time I still can't figure out how I used it against Hearts. Everytime I try to reach that level I fail. Whis thinks I'm trying too hard."

"Maybe you are."

"Maybe. Maybe I just gotta work harder. Or maybe I gotta be in an all out fight to the death," Mae listed. "But one way or another I'll reach Ultra Instinct. No I'll go passed that!"

Gohan chuckled, "if anyone can it's you."

"We should hang out more often like this," Mae smiled at her brother. "We should train together too. Like we did when we were kids."

"That's a good idea," Gohan nodded. "You and Jiren should come and have dinner with Videl and I too. Leave the kids with mom or Piccolo and just have a nice night out."

"That would be fun too. I'll have to ask Jiren about it. See if he can get some time away," Mae tapped her chin. "He's been so busy lately. Feels like I hardly see him."

"Maybe you should write him a love letter," Gohan teased.

"No way! That'd be so embarrassing!" Mae exclaimed.

"It's not embarrassing, it's a romantic gesture," Gohan continued.

"Yeah embarrassing!"

"You're hopeless."

The siblings continued to talk and laugh with each other until the sun began to set. By that time the three children were exhausted from their sparring session. Pan ran up to Mae while the twins went over to Gohan.

"You see how strong I am auntie?" Pan asked eagerly.

"Yeah, good job," Mae smiled and patted her on the head. "You must be training a lot."

"Yeah! I get to train with dad and Piccolo!" Pan neatly jumped up.

"We wanna train with Piccolo too!" Chi and Gicchin exclaimed. "Mommy can we train with Piccolo?" Gicchin asked.

"Sure, we can ask him tomorrow," Mae rubbed the small grey saiyan's head.

"Momma do you know when daddy will be home?" Chi asked.

"I'm sorry I don't. Hopefully soon," Mae told her. "But did you two have fun with Pan?"

"Yeah!" The twins exclaimed, their tones shifting to a lighter one.

"That's good. Now let's go home," Mae held their hands and lifted into the air. "See ya later Gohan. Pan don't give your dad too much trouble."

"I won't!" Pan waved.

"Bye Mae!" Gohan waved to his sister and watched them fly off towards their home in the mountains.

"Momma can we stop and walk through the woods?" Chi asked, looking down at the fields of flowers as they flew over.

"I don't see why not. We are almost home anyway," Mae nodded and landed on the ground.

As they walked Chi and Gicchin worked together to collect some flowers for their house. Once they had a full bouquet they handed it to Mae. "Very pretty," she smiled and wrapped the stems together with a rubber band. After she handed it back to Chi to carry.

As they neared their home in the forest they saw a strange figure in the grass.

"Mommy who's that?" Gicchin pointed to a man laying face down on the ground.

"I think he's dying," Chi said with a worried tone.

"You two head back to Gohan's okay," Mae looked at her children. "Tell him to have you guys stay with him for awhile."

"Are you gonna help him?" Gicchin asked as he floated into the air.

"Yeah," Mae nodded. She watched the twins leave before hurrying to the injured man.

She put a hand on him and gave him a small amount of energy. His clothing was torn and he was covered in battle marks. Whatever happened to him must have been terrible. What really stood out, however, was his tail.

"Are you a saiyan?" Mae wondered aloud. She rolled the man over and was shocked by his face and hair. "Dad? No not dad. Dad doesn't have a scar on his cheek."

"Tch," the man groaned in pain as Mae picked him up.

"Don't worry, I'm gonna help you," Mae assured him. She brought him inside her home and laid him down on the ground. "Man what happened to you?" She wondered as she grabbed a capsule with first aid equipment.

First she inspected for any bleeding. The few cuts he had she carefully stitched up. The worst were the burns along his arms and chest. "Looks like this came from a large energy blast," Mae notes as she rubbed ointment on the wounds. Once she was done with that she bandaged him up.

"Whatever you've been through it must have been hell," Mae said putting a cold cloth on his forehead. His breathing slowed down slightly as she covered him with a blanket. "But let's try and get that fever down."

Mae tried to have him drink some cool water. He drank a few sips but groaned in pain. "Gotta...stop...Frieza..." he said in a weak voice.

Mae's eyes went wide, "Frieza?" Could it be possible that Frieza mistook this man for her father? The resemblance between the two was uncanny.

Mae leaned against the wall and stared at the strange man. What did Frieza do? Now more than ever she wanted to know just what Frieza was up to.

"Well shit," Mae swore. She had more questions than answers.
