Achieving Super Saiyan
A few days passed and Bardock finally recovered from his injuries. During that time Mae taught him how to sense ki and focus his energy. When Mae came in to check on him he told her he was ready to start training. Mae nodded and went to get him some training clothes. She handed him a blue gi with a black undershirt, belt and boots.
"This is all I have for now. I can have Bulma make you some saiyan armor later if you want," Mae told him.
"Who's Bulma?" Bardock asked, taking the clothes.
"Vegeta's wife," Mae answered.
"Is she a saiyan as well?" Bardock asked.
"Nah, she's a human," Mae shook her head.
Bardock was slightly surprised to find out that the saiyan prince had married a human. But he shook his head and focused back on the task before him. "So you can teach me super saiyan?"
"Yeah," Mae nodded. "Probably even beyond super saiyan too."
"Right, you mentioned that the other day," Bardock said. He was still shocked to learn that not only was there super saiyan but levels beyond it. "It's still hard to believe."
"Well I'll just have to show you then," Mae smirked. She left the room so Bardock could get changed and she waited for him outside.
When he arrived Mae was stretching out her body. "So if I achieve super saiyan will I be able to defeat Frieza?" He asked, stretching his arms.
"No," Mae shook her head. "You're going to at least need super saiyan blue. Maybe higher. I'm not sure what level Frieza is at now but knowing him he's probably gotten stronger."
"Super saiyan blue?" Bardock tilted his head. "What's that?"
"It's the super saiyan of super saiyan god," Mae answered.
"Super saiyan god? Isn't that just a myth?" Bardock raised a brow.
"Not anymore," Mae said. "So you ready to see the different transformations?"
Bardock narrowed his eyes and nodded. Mae smirked and powered up to super saiyan. Her eyes turned green and her hair stood straight up with a golden glow. Bardock was shocked at the sudden increase in power. He stared in awe as the golden aura around her buzzed.
"This is super saiyan," Mae said. "And this...is super saiyan two!" She powered up again. This time sparks of electricity came off her body.
"Amazing," Bardock gasped in awe. "What's next?"
"Next is super saiyan three!" Mae powered up again. Her hair grew longer as her power level rose. Her facial features changed a bit as her eyebrows vanished. More sparks came off her body as well.
Bardock didn't know what to say. His skin was tingling from her energy. He could feel the massive gap between them. He had to reach this level.
"Now for super saiyan god," Mae said. This time when she powered up Bardock could no longer feel her Ki. A red flame like aura surrounded her as her hair and eyes turned red. Her body became thinner, more toned than before. Her hair seemed to almost flutter from the energy surrounding her.
"This is the power of a god?" Bardock asked, looking her over. "I can't feel your energy, but I can feel the power coming from you. It's strange."
"That's because it's divine energy," Mae told him. "Don't worry I'll teach you how to sense divine energy."
"I see," Bardock nodded. "I'm guessing that super saiyan blue is next?"
"Yep," Mae nodded and let her power rise again. Her red hair stood up and turned blue. Her eyes and aura matched her hair and yellow sparks danced around her. "This is super saiyan blue."
"So strong," Bardock gasped. "So is this the maximum?"
Mae shook her head, "no I have one more form. It's my limit breaking form. I call it super saiyan ice." As she powered up her aura turned a pale icy blue color and her hair began to grow. It turned the same shade of icy blue as she reached the height of her power. "This form is unique to me."
"So Kakarot can't do this?" Bardock asked, watching her carefully.
"Nah, he's got something else," Mae said as she powered down to her base form. "He combined super saiyan blue with the Kaioken to boost his power. He also can do this thing called Ultra Instinct."
"Ultra Instinct? What's that?" Bardock asked curiously.
"Apparently it's the limit breaking power of the gods," Mae explained. "It's hard for even someone like Beerus to do it. But dad has mastered it."
"Kakarot mastered a power difficult even for the gods?!" Bardock was taken aback. When Mae nodded he asked. "And you? Can you use this form?"
"I did the incomplete ultra instinct once," Mae scratched her head. "But I haven't been able to reach it since."
"How come?"
"Not sure. The time I did it it just happened," Mae said. "I knew I had to help my dad but I didn't know how to do that. Something happened and then I went all ultra instinct."
"And you don't know how to reach it again?" Bardock raised a brow.
"No," Mae replied. "Whis keeps telling me I'm thinking too much and that's why I can't do it again."
"I see," Bardock said. He had more questions for her but he figured he would wait to ask. "So how do I reach super saiyan?"
"The best way is through emotion, pure raw emotion," Mae said. "You find an emotion powerful enough to trigger it. Rage is a good one."
"Rage hmm?" Bardock thought for a moment. Yes he had plenty of rage inside him. He closed his eyes and thought back, back to when he was on Planet Vegeta. The last time he saw his wife, how they sent Kakarot away. How he would never see Raditz again. There was one person to blame for his pain.
Frieza.
Frieza enslaved his people. Frieza forced them to conquer planets for him. Frieza turned on them and wiped out the saiyans. Frieza took everything away from him. His home. His family. His life.
As Bardock's rage grew something burst inside him, needing to escape. He let out a mighty yell as his power rose. Mae had to cover her face against the powerful wind coming from him. When Bardock opened his eyes they were the green color of a super saiyan.
"You did it, Bardock!" Mae exclaimed.
Bardock turned to her and pointed. "Fight me, Mae."
Mae smirked and cracked her knuckles. She stepped into a fighting stance, "heh you're on."
Bardock brought his hands up and ran forward after Mae. He brought his leg up to kick her but she blocked with her forearm. A small smirk tugged at the corners of his mouth as he went in for a punch. Mae grabbed his fist with her free hand. She brought her leg up and kicked his jaw.
Bardock stumbled back a few feet. He held his hands out and sent energy blasts at Mae. She jumped back avoiding them before flying up into the air. "No you don't!" Bardock exclaimed, going after her.
By the time Bardock realized it was a trap it was too late. Mae wheeled around and unleashed a blast. "Galick Gun!"
Bardock hastily sent his own energy beam at hers. Mae powered up to super saiyan and quickly overtook Bardock's. Before the smoke cleared Mae was on him. He did his best to block her attacks, but she was too fast and too powerful. She noticed he left his legs open and went for them, making him lose his balance. Mae grabbed him by the shoulders and slammed him to the ground.
The wind was knocked from his chest as Bardock hit. As she came in for another attack he blocked with a leg and kicked her back, giving him a chance to get on his feet. They both rushed each other, locking forearms.
"You're pretty good," Mae grinned. "I'm gettin kinda excited."
"You're not so bad yourself," Bardock smirked. He went in for a punch but she ducked down avoiding it. She jumped up smashing her head into his chin. Bardock cried out and stumbled back, his form faltering. Mae kicked out his legs and he fell over.
Mae leapt on him and formed a ball of energy in front of his face. "I win," she smirked.
Bardock sighed as his form faded completely. "Yeah you win."
Mae grinned and got off him. She held a hand out to help him up. "You're a pretty good fighter."
"So are you," Bardock accepted her hand. "Incredibly good in fact. Prince Vegeta taught you these moves?"
"Most of em," Mae dropped her form. "Dad teaches me a lot too and Whis."
"Who is this Whis you keep mentioning?" Bardock asked, sitting on the ground.
"He's Beerus' attendant," Mae answered, sitting next to him.
"And who's that?" Bardock asked.
"Oh you don't know? Beerus the destroyer," Mae said. "He's the destroyer god for this universe, universe seven."
Bardock thought for a moment. "Wait I have heard that name before. I didn't think he was real though."
"Yep he's real," Mae said. "Real grouchy for sure."
Bardock gave her a strange look. "Why did you call this universe universe seven?"
"Cause it is," Mae said. "There are 12 universes total."
"Oh so that's what you meant by the tournament between universes," Bardock said.
"Yep," Mae nodded. "We live in universe seven, but sometimes I go over to universe eleven."
"Why universe eleven?" Bardock asked.
"Cause that's where my husband is from," Mae said. "He's actually the strongest in all the universes."
"What? Really?" Bardock was taken aback.
"Yep, when he comes back I'll introduce you," Mae looked up at the sky. "He's more incredible than I am. I've never seen someone as strong and skilled as him."
Bardock stared at Mae for a moment. "You must really love him." He looked up at the sky as well, his heart aching for Gine.
"I really do," Mae nodded. Before she could ask him about his wife, Gicchin and Chi came running up to them.
"Mommy!" They said together and tackled her.
Bardock was surprised by the suddenness of the twins that he nearly fell over. "Are these your children?" He asked Mae.
"Yeah, this is my son Gicchin and my daughter Chi," Mae introduced the twins.
"You're the guy we found!" Gicchin pointed at Bardock.
"You look like our grandpa!" Chi exclaimed. "Are you his brother?"
Bardock looked at Mae but she shrugged. "No, I'm his father."
"But you don't look old," Gicchin peered closer to Bardock.
"Grandpa doesn't look old either," Chi countered.
"Oh yeah," Gicchin scratched his head. "Are you strong Grandpa?"
Bardock was surprised by what the boy called him. "I'm not as strong as your mother, but I'm going to get stronger."
"Wow!" Gicchin beamed. "I'm gonna get stronger too!" Out of excitement he powered up to super saiyan.
Bardock's eyes went wide at the young boy's transformation. "Yeah, I bet you'll be really strong."
"Hey I'm gonna get stronger too!" Chi pouted.
"Are you a super saiyan as well?" Bardock asked her.
Chi shook her head no. "I can't transform but I'm still pretty tough!" She said with a determined look.
Bardock smiled and pat her on the head. "I'm sure you are."
Chi smiled back at Bardock before turning to Mae. "Will you train us?"
"Pretty please!" Gicchin added.
Mae looked at Bardock before standing up. "Yeah alright I'll train you."
She took them a little ways off and they began attacking her together. Bardock watched with a keen eye, wanting to see how the twins would fair and to try and get a better sense of Mae's fighting style. If he could reach her level then he would have a chance at defeating Frieza. That was his only goal, to make Frieza pay.
