Chapter 12

The Fall

Sparrow

I was the one standing closest to the Pit when Abyss fell in. I wasn't quite sure what Marlene and Scàth were doing at the moment, but whatever it was, it was working really well. Abyss was about to fall over the edge.

But when she did, she caught the ledge. I could see her little arms trembling trying to keep herself up. Apparently strength isn't one of her powers. She reached upwards with one arm, keeping one on the ledge. The next thing I knew, I felt one of Abyss' ghostly arms wrapping around my leg.

Abyss began to drag me towards her as she loosened her grip on the ledge. As I fell into the Pit, I wrote a poem in my head:

Falling into eternal darkness

Dragged into the Pit

Doom awaits

falling

falling

falling

Thunderclouds encompass

Smoke and shadows

Black, filthy smoke

Clouds my vision

falling

falling

falling

Colder now

Frozen horrors

One dying scream

Cold flames lick my feet

Eating at my life

Pain

And then there was nothing.
