Chapter 11 - Scàth's Memory
Chapter 11
Scàth's Memory
Marlene
I wished Rico was there with me when I stared into the Pit of Eternal Doom. Abyss was approaching, and I would have to throw her into the Pit or face her wrath. At least I had Ethan and Sparrow. They were my two closest friends, and they were as close as I could get to Rico.
I noticed Abyss floating towards us. Fear rushed through me. I looked at Scàth. I could tell he was feeling something deeper when he looked at Abyss - something much deeper. I could only guess why Scàth seemed so terrified of Abyss.
Abyss floated up to Cara first. "I suppose we don't need this one, do we?" she said rhetorically. Abyss pulled out a rifle and shot Cara in the wing. Cara wailed in pain. Abyss backed away from Cara and moved towards the Pit. We were forced to follow her, despite the fact that Cara needed attention. Abyss was smart, immobilizing our leader first. But I felt like she had a worse end in mind for the rest of us.
"You are all very brave for coming here," Abyss began. "It must take a lot of courage to come to the Pit, only to be brutally murdered." She paused for a moment. "I recognize you," Abyss said to Scàth. "You were that nasty dragon who killed my family!"
"They slaughtered my friends like beasts," Scàth retorted. "Since the day I did it, I have regretted what I did. Now, I realize that I need to finish my deed."
"You have sealed your own fate," Abyss replied. "I shall kill you first."
Now I understood everything about Scàth: why he chose the simple life of a fortune teller, why he felt haunted by Abyss, and why this was his fight and not mine. Scàth needed to destroy his own horrible creation. But he couldn't do it alone. I had to help him.
Abyss floated towards Scàth, pulling out a large bronze sword. Scàth clawed at Abyss, but I knew it wouldn't work. Scàth's claws simply swiped through Abyss.
"I am much stronger than when we last met. You will not kill me that easily," Abyss stated. She jabbed Scàth with her sword, but Scàth created a magical shield to block it.
I could hear Cara screaming nearby. I hoped she would be OK for a few minutes while we finished off Abyss. I tried to do a sonic blast on Abyss, but it simply bounced off of her.
"Maybe if we combine our sonic blasts, we can knock Abyss over the edge," Scàth whispered to me. "Ethan and Sparrow, can you distract Abyss?"
Ethan nodded. I knew he could have done more than simple distractions, but Abyss had to be caught off-guard. I summoned some of my magic. I could feel the electric blue magic pulsing through my veins. It was the same magic that I breathed fire with the first time I met the Blood Seekers and had summoned the note in the Wizards' cave. Now, that magic would destroy Abyss.
"Are you ready?" Scàth asked. I nodded.
Abyss was pushed forward towards the Pit by our sonic boom. She teetered along the edge. I mustered a little more strength and pushed Abyss over the edge.
