Chapter 11
Kari lunged at Caesar and clawed at him only to have the man dodge. Kari growled then kept pursuing Caesar with rage in her eyes, showing no mercy.

Robin rushed to see that the crew was now together again. They were talking amongst themselves, trying to figure out how to save the kids. It looked like Nami and Sanji were in their own bodies again and Zoro had blood splattered on him from a recent fight. Law was also present as well as a woman she had only seen images of. Robin walked up to the woman and put a hand on her shoulder.
"Are you Maica Kinoshita?" She asked kindly. Maica turned to face Robin and nodded.
"Yes. Well that was once my name. It's now Maica Yoshida. Uh, why?"
"I'm Robin. It's good to meet you. I've only seen pictures from your twin."
"Mikomi?! She's okay?!" Maica gasped. Robin nodded. Maica sniffled but did her best to keep calm. "Thank you. I haven't heard from her ever since the incident." She sighed.
"She is doing amazing. Sadly, I can't tell you anything else. If she wishes to contact you, then I'm sure she'll figure out how to get you." Robin gave Maica a small smile. Law stared at the two.
"You mind?" He sighed. The two looked at him and nodded. Law continued to talk about their plan of getting the kids home and capturing Caesar. Robin widened her eyes a bit.
"About Caesar, Kari is fighting him as we speak. If we want him alive we better go now." She informed and everyone ran that way as quickly as possible, Chase flying above them now his normal size to watch for any enemies.
The group then entered where Kari and Caesar were fighting only to find that the two were out cold. Luffy, Zoro, and Chase rushed to Kari's side while Law and Maica tied up Caesar. They all then went outside and began to celebrate with the children as well as their new allies.
A while later Kari's eyes opened and she slowly sat up with a grumble. Chase and Chopper were the first to her side since they were closer. Maica was next with Robin then Zoro and then everyone else. Kari gave everyone a pain filled smile and sighed.
"Kari," Nami grumbled while crossing her arms. "You and Maica have some explaining to do." She huffed. Kari and Maica exchanged glances while everyone sat down to listen. Kati went first.
----------
When Kari was two years old she lived with her mother, father, and older brother on a small island Kari and her brother were born on along the grand line. They were a happy family even though they had very little. About a week after Kari's second birth day, things began to get a little tense around the Himura family house. Every night Mikomi and Lynx would bicker about things that could possibly happen, causing Mikomi to worry about her young daughter
"She's two years old, Lynx. I'm starting to get worried. When Kite turned two--"
"Mikomi, I know. We will be okay. Kite is six and Kari has us as well as him. She will be fine. Don't worry." Lynx reassured his wife., running his fingers through her long, smooth hair.
Mikomi sniffled and nodded. "Alright."
"Lets get to bed."Lynx smiled kindly then the two walked off. About a week later they were still bickering. This continued for a month after Kari's second birthday until they were finally sure she was okay.
The next morning Kari and her older brother rushed out and ran through the nearby forest, playing happily. Kari kept tripping over her ninja scarf she got from her parents for her birthday.
"Let's go, Tiny!" Kari's older brother chuckled while swiftly jumping from one tree branch to another. Kari growled and ran faster from the ground.
"MY NAME'SH NUT TINY!" She hissed then tripped over a tree root and scraped her knee. The child slowly stood up and wipped off her pants.
"Kari, you okay?" Kitearo asked while running back towards Kari. The girl nodded with a huff.
"Yeh." She stated. Kitearo smiled.
"Phew, good. Come On, let's go home. Mom's got lunch waiting for us." He said and the two began walking home.
While they walked, Kitearo could not shake the feeling that he and Kari were being watched. He then heard rustling in the nearby bushes and grabbed Kari and kept her close to him. He narrowed his eyes and kept walking only to feel a sharp pain hit his back. This made him fall to his knees and left Kari in a state of shock.
"We got her!" A voice called and saw a man with an eye patch as well as a man with one arm approach her. Kitearo growled then kicked the man with the eye patch in to the one armed man. He then jumped up and grabbed Kari's hand and began running.
"Come on!" He ordered while the men behind them got up.
"Big brother!! I'm scared!" Kari whined.
"Don't let her escape! Caesar wants her alive and we'll get paid big time for this!" One of the men called in anger.
Kitearo gripped his sister's hand. "Just hold onto my hand Kari! I'll get us somewhere safe. I promise. I'll protect you." He stated then kept running. Kari nodded while sniffling and keeping close to her brother.
The two ended up hiding in a cave for a while. After an hour passed, Kitearo decided to go look around the area. He slowly peaked out then hesitantly exited the cave. Kari whined and grabbed him, but he gave her a smile then rubbed her head.
"I'll be right back. I won't be long." He said then left. Kari waited for him for thirty minutes until she decided to go searching for him.
"Where is she?!" Kari heard not too far away. The girl hid and listened. It was the man with only one arm and her brother.
"I won't tell you anything!" Kitearo snapped. Kari frowned then heard footsteps behind her. An arm tightly wrapped around her waist while another arm grabbed her mouth. Kari let out a muffled scream while the man laughed.
"Got her!" He called. Kitearo gasped but felt a searing pain in his front left shoulder. The one armed man had jabbed him with a torch and kept it there for a few minutes after the child had passed out from the pain. "Let's get going."
"How do we keep her quiet?"
"Give me that torch real quick." The one armed man handed his partner the torch. The man with only one eye released Kari's mouth then grabbed the torch. He then sat Kari down while holding her scarf with his free hand like a leash, so she would not get away. Kari moved her little legs quickly, trying to get away but then felt a sharp pain in the back of her head and blacked out. When she woke up Kari saw a fuzzy maroon figure.
"Hello, my name is Darano. And you are?"
"Kari. Kari Himura."
"Nice to meet you. How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay. My head hurts though. Where am I?"
"You are in my home." He stated. "Please, just rest for now. You were hit in the head pretty hard." He said then Kari yawned and went back to sleep.
----------
Nami gulped while Chopper, Franky, and Usopp cried. Chase just looked down while everyone else stared. Maica sighed then began to speak.
"You see. Kari's father, Lynx Yama D Himura, was a descendant of a person who had eaten a man made devil fruit that was ordered to be made by the government. It was called the copy-copy fruit and its purpose was to counter opposing devil fruit users as well as to inform of weaknesses of those devil fruit users. This one person would have all strengths and weaknesses of each devil fruit just by seeing it in action. But there were, and still are, limitations. Like if an ability had just been copied it can't be used right away or else it could harm the user, or lack of training could drive the user insane with built up power. It also gives the user the ability to learn new things quicker than average and some devil fruit abilities were carried over to the next generation as well as the copy-copy ability without fail, due to the fruit altering the DNA of the one who ate it. The DNA needed to be altered to make the fruit's abilities useable. Eventually, this fruit was deemed too deadly and was supposed to be destroyed. But as we see here, it was consumed and now here we are. This happened to Kari because of her heritage and people's greed."
"Wait, why would they take her at such a young age? Couldn't Kari just attack them or something?" Chopper asked.
Maica shook her head. "No. At a certain age, a user can begin training his or her devil fruit abilities, but no sooner. At that age of training they are too weak to fight anyone so they need plenty of time to practice and adjust to these new abilities, like a baby bird learning to fly, or a cub learning to hur. From what I can guess, this delay in usage readies both body and mind in a similar way as to why the user can't use recently copied abilities the moment they acquire them, since they need to ready their mind and body to use the new ability." She sighed.
Zoro huffed. "Why do you know this?" He grumbled while crossing his arms.
"Well, my twin did marry a man like this so I got interested and decided to dig. Actually, that is why I am here, so I could gain access to documents that only a select few are able to access." Maica informed. "Sadly there was not very much after what I told you, nothing else that would interest you I believe anyway. If I do manage to figure something out, I'll let you know somehow." She smiled. Luffy nodded and began to speak, but Kari began to growl painfully.
"What's going on?" She hissed and toppled over while gripping her head and bring her knees to her chest. "It hurts so much!" Maica quickly looked at Kari's eyes and checked her temperature.
"What's wrong with Kari?!" Chopper called while running to Kari's side. Maica gulped upon seeing black veins appear in Kari's eyes, growing inwards.
"Remember when I said lack of training will cause a copy-copy fruit user to go insane? Well, since Kari had lost her memory all of her previously learned abilities were locked up, from what I've read, as a defence mechanism of sorts. Like how a child is unable to use their abilities until a certain. Anyways, the machine Kari was hooked up to started to help her remember."
"But she woke up unexpectedly, causing a disturbance in her brain." Chopper concluded. Maica nodded.
"Exactly. All of her abilities she "forgot" she had are now all rushing back with her not knowing how to use them, building up too much power at such a rapid rate making her brain overload. We need to knock her out and hook her back up to the machine or who knows what'll happen!" Maica called then picked up Kari. "I'll go on ahead, Chopper please come with me. The rest of you please wait here. I'll come and get you when she's ready." Maica and Chopper then rushed off. Not long later Maica and Chopper were back and were bombarded with questions.
"She's fine." Chopper sighed. Maice nodded then sat down, holding her head in her hands.
"It seems like she'll be ready in about a week. I guess she was unwilling to remember before, so she was mentally fighting the machine and causing the process to take longer." She informed.
"How long was it before hand?" Robin asked.
Maica looked up. "A few months. But now it looks like it may take about a week, if not less." She stated with a weak smile. Robin sighed in relief. Luffy stood up.
"Welp, looks like we'll be staying here for the time being until Kari's ready to set sail." He stated.
Maica smiled. "I'm sure she'd appreciate that. I know I do because I'll need help from Chopper to make sure she's stable."
Chopper saluted. "Anything for Kari!" He called. Law grumbled.
"I guess I could help as well." He stated. Luffy clapped happily.
"And if you need any help from us, just let us know!" The captain called. Suddenly, a large explosion sounded. It came from where Kari was. This startled everyone and they ran towards the building to see Maica's superior, Shinku. Maica gasped in shock to see Shinku in a sea of flames, near her niece's room.
"I don't even know why Caesar bothered to capture a brat like you! So unstable and worthless." She hissed. Luffy began to grow angry, but Maica held him back.
"No, this one is mine." She huffed then approached Shinku.
"Hmm? Oh, Maica. How is your research going?" Maica stayed silent as she approached Shinku. "Hmm? What's wrong."
"You... Step away from my NIECE!" She called in anger then kicked the woman across the hall. "I JUST GOT TO SEE HER AFTER SO MANY YEARS! I WILL NOT LOSE HER TO SCUM LIKE YOU! SO FUCK OFF!" She snapped. Shinku blinked in shock while standing up. Maica glared at Shinku while taking a kunai out of her lab coat pocket. She then threw it at the half deer woman's throat as hard and as fast as she could, killing her instantly. Everyone stared in shock then snapped back to reality. Chase rushed to the flames with a growl.
"Waterfall lash!" He roared the whipped his tail in front of the fire, making water fall from the end of his tail and putting out the flames. Maica rushed to check on Kari and the equipment she was hooked up to.
She walked back out a few minutes later with a sigh. "Well, Kari is okay but the equipment that helps keep her stable while asleep has been damaged. So we need to keep a close eye on her while I fix it. It'll be about a day until it is fixed so make sure she stays breathing and doesn't wake up." Everyone nodded. Maica and Franky began to work on fixing the equipment while everyone else made sure Kari was stable.
One day passed and the machine was fixed. Kari was hooked up to the machine securely and everyone began to talk to Maica, specifically they asked her questions about how she had a kunai and about her family's past, mostly Kari's past. Maica sighed and began to explain as best she could.
