Chapter 42
Once it was lunch time, Gaster could officially claim that he knew Vibrant. Or rather, that he knew enough for Vibrant to not be qualified as a total stranger that somehow settled in his house and became his son. Oh how Grillby was going to make fun of him when he would learn that he already adopted a new kid... But, hey! At least it was the last one, as they weren't expecting anyone else from their old Multiverse! And thanks Toby Fox for that, as Gaster didn't think that he could adopt any more child without seeming like a compulsive adopter, which wasn't really how he wanted to make himself known in his AU despite it being somewhat accurate.
And Grillby would never let him hear the end of it... Yeah, he wasn't ready for the fire elemental's teasing. He was the only one who knew just how horrible Grillby could be when he had some teasing material. He would probably dust before Grillby left him alone with all of his kids. Oh Toby Fox, he was doomed, wasn't he? And he could definitively not hide the new addition of his family, firstly because he was damn proud of his parasite of a kid –yes, already–, and secondly because it wouldn't be nice for Vibrant. Plus, they would end up knowing about him anyway, and he was quite hard to hide, considering how noticeable he was. Oh well, he was ready for the teasing... Or as ready as he could be. Which wasn't a lot, but he would manage. Surely, Grillby wouldn't tease him that much, right...?
Oh, who was he kidding, of course he would. But it was okay, he didn't regret adopting his chaotic sons. Plus, they made Sans and Papyrus happy, and it was all that he could ever ask for. He could take the teasing; it wasn't that that would kill him. And he still had those high school compromising files on the fire elemental, in case it went to that. What? Of course he would keep those and use them if necessary! Grillby probably did the same anyway, there was no reason to be ashamed. And no, he wasn't being petty at all. Definitely not.
Gaster sighed and shook his head slightly, effectively getting out of his thoughts and finishing to wash the dishes. Why did he have to think about how much the fire elemental was going to tease him already? It wasn't doing him any good; quite the opposite, he was now scared of Grillby learning about the new addition to his family, which he knew would happen soon, as he often visited Grillby with his sons. Yep, he was done.
"So... Are you ready to meet your counterparts and the others?" He might as well take his mind of the threat represented by the dark fire elemental for now. Drako shrugged, not really caring. Granted, it was awkward, but he already met Error so he was ready. Torment was less. "This Nightmare better be worthy of his title and name if he doesn't want to get stabbed." Yeah, Torment was still a bit bitter that he had to abandon his name and title –even if he was and still considered himself as the King of Negativity, thank you very much– for his counterpart. Well, he didn't really abandon his title, but he couldn't introduce himself with it anymore, sadly.
Gaster chuckled and affectionately rubbed Torment's head. "I doubt that he could be a 'Nightmare' as great as you were, Torment." Torment puffed his chest in pride, his tentacles swaying happily behind him because of the praise. Gaster wasn't sure if it was a good idea to feed the King's ego, but knowing how much he went through, it was the least that he could do to make his baby –once again, don't let it be known that he thought that– happy.
Vibrant smirked, leaning against the wall while his glasses showed the word 'READY'. "I can't wait to meet those radical versions of 'em! Maybe dat my awesome counterpart will even come if he learns dat there's a mini him roamin' around the radical Multiverse!" Which was honestly possible; Freshs knew everything after all. He probably already knew about his 'mini self', as Vibrant said. The colorful parasite was strangely okay with being called a 'mini Fresh', unlike Torment and Drako who were annoyed for being called mini versions of their counterparts. Anyway, they wouldn't be surprised if Fresh suddenly joined them, or just made an appearance at some point.
Demise shrugged. "As long as my counterpart isn't there, I'm fine with it. It was so funking awkward last time..." Vibrant glared at him –which wasn't really noticeable with his glasses, but they somehow could feel the glare... Somehow– for cursing, making Demise giggle and stick out his tongue at him. Since Vibrant was now here to censor them, they weren't afraid of cursing in front of the youngest of the family anymore. Of course, they still tried not to do it, but they knew that Vibrant would censor them anyway. And Vibrant knew that they knew and were doing it to annoy him more than anything else.
Blade shrugged. "I'm not ready but I won't be able to avoid him indefinitely... Oh! Drako!" Said skeleton hummed, raising a brow curiously. "You need to steal chocolate from my counterpart's stash in front of him!" Drako paused for a few seconds before snorting at Blade's request. "YoU wAnT Me To dO ThIs AfFrOnT To yOuR CoUnTeRpART?" Blade nodded, making him laugh even more. Why would Blade want him to 'torture' another version of himself? It felt wrong... But he wasn't going to complain; he loved traumatizing Crosses by stealing their precious chocolate. Which wasn't that often for him, as even if he loved the sugary treat, he wasn't really fond of eating regularly –as his family could testify about–. Granted, that was what he ate the most, and the most often, but generally, he either kept the chocolate to eat it later or gave the treat to the Charas, as they liked it just as much. Now that he thought about it, he started eating more chocolate since he came here... Was it a good thing?
Heh, probably. He was eating after all, just like his brothers and father wanted him to. It wasn't nearly as much nor as healthy as they would have liked it, but it was already something. A good start in itself. And probably the most effort he would ever make.
"Say, your coun-counter-... Counterparts, how are they? Are they like you?" All eyes turned toward Sans, who was the one to ask the question, struggling slightly with the word 'counterparts'. He still had trouble understanding that there were other 'him', 'Papy' and 'Dad', even if his new brothers were technically other versions of himself... Oh Toby Fox, the more he thought about it, the less it seemed to make sense. He couldn't even imagine himself as a skeleton instead of a dragon! Demise was the one to answer the little one. "Physically, yes, they mostly are like us... Or well, for Blade and I, they look like what we looked like before coming here. There are still a lot of differences; for example Error isn't as tall as our big brother is, nor as hurt. Mentally, not so much. They are similar, but there are more differences than similarities... For example, Ink not being a radhole." Seeing the confusion on Sans' face at the –censored– insult, Demise sighed and corrected himself. "I meant that he isn't a big meanie like our Ink was." Sans' face brightened in understanding, the little dragon nodding in response while Vibrant gave an approving nod at the correction.
It was very confusing for Sans and Papyrus to think about other versions of their big brothers, honestly. And they couldn't really imagine their brothers looking differently than what they were used to see every day. It made them want to meet those copies –as their brothers obviously were the Originals for them– and compare them with their big bros. "Will we have the right to meet them one day?" Blade nodded. "Yes, but not right now. We're still not sure about how everyone reacted to us and we don't want them to hurt you because you're related to us."
Sans frowned and tilted his head to the side. "Why would they do that?" It was Torment's turn to answer the little one. "Because our counterparts are known to be... Scary? Yeah, let's go with that. Scary Monsters, so others might be a little scared of us. Until everything is clear, we can't risk you meeting them." The little dragon nodded in understanding, soon imitated by his little brother. They understood that their brothers only wanted to protect them from the meanies in the Multiverse. They could wait for a bit if it made their big bros happy. Plus, their father probably wouldn't want them to go if it wasn't safe. He was easily worried about them.
"How long before da radical date with our tots awesome counterparts?" Vibrant asked, playing with his glasses boredly. Don't get him wrong; he absolutely adored his new little brothers –and he loved his older brothers just as much– and was happy to answer their questions about the Multiverse, but it wasn't his thing to stay put for so long. He wanted to either cause some chaos –he already had a few prank ideas in mind for this Multiverse and he couldn't wait to realize them!– or go meet them already.
Drako took out his phone and looked at the screen for a second before placing it back into his inventory. "TwO MoRe HoURs AnD A HaLF." That surprised Vibrant, who expected the answer to at least be 'three hours'. Granted, they didn't eat early since they were introducing the parasite, but he didn't think that it would already be that late. Oh well, Vibrant wasn't going to complain, as stated previously, he really wanted to move. Somehow, having a SOUL made him more energetic than before, which was surprising as he thought himself to already be quite energetic. Not on a Blue –or any Swap for that matter– level, of course, as the blue clad skeleton could be very energetic when he pretended to be an innocent ball of sunshine or after drinking coffee, and slightly less with the 'Bad Sanses'. He was still the most energetic member of the gang though.
Vibrant nodded in satisfaction, unwrapping a lollipop, coming from Toby Fox knows where, and putting it in his mouth. "Neat." He glanced down to see Papyrus looking at him –and his lollipop– in amazement and understood easily what the little one wanted. 'Welp, time to deliver some unradical diabete.' Ignoring the disapproving gaze Gaster was throwing him, he made another lollipop appear in his hand in a colorful cloudy poof and handed it to Papyrus, who let out a small excited squeal before taking the candy. "Thank you brother!"
Vibrant smiled brightly in response, his glasses showing the words 'NO PROB'. Gaster sighed and shook his head, silently hoping that Vibrant wouldn't feed too much candies to his youngest sons. "Oh, I thought about it sooner when you talked about meeting your counterparts at four; would you like to bring some snacks? I know a Monster who make and sell really good pastries."
Drako raised a brow and smiled. "MuFfET?" Gaster paused for a second, silently questioning how he knew the Spider Monster's name, before remembering how much versions of her they probably already met and nodding with an embarrassed chuckle. "I guess that it could be nice, yes. Plus, we still need to meet everyone in this AU, so why not?"
Torment ignored with practiced ease Blade and Drako talking about bribing people –namely the gang in that specific scenario– with the food while the others snickered at that not so quiet discussion –they were 'whispering' but everyone could hear them as they were on the opposite sides of the room and didn't even try to be discreet–.
"Well let's go then, we will have to fly since the village her café is in is situated between the lab and the King's castle." They hummed, unsurprised by this information. Undertale's Muffet was between Hotland and the MTT Resort after all. And they already guessed that Mettaton didn't exist yet, or had to be a child, as Alphys herself is one. "Do YoU wAnT Me To FlY Us ThERE?" Gaster shook his head. "I might need your help to come back if I'm too tired, but otherwise don't worry. I probably shouldn't worry, but I want you to have full magic reserves before meeting them, just in case something bad happens."
Drako paused, staring at Gaster with wide eyes before bursting into laughter. "YoU SOuNd ExACtLy LiKE ToRMeNT DiD EVeRYTiME I HaD TO lEavE TO dEsTRoY AUs!" Torment sighed in response, biting the inside of his cheek to prevent himself from smiling at the obvious display of worry. He couldn't even deny it, as he said the exact same thing to Drako multiple times since they could never know how violent the Squid would be. Sometimes Drako got out of the fight without too many injuries, and sometimes he came back with parts of his skull destroyed –once the hole looked so similar to Horror's that said skeleton called him his 'Hole-headed buddy' all the time until his skull was fully healed–, missing bones and multiple destroyed ribs. It wasn't a pretty sight, but they had to get used to it, even if it was extremely disturbing for all of them.
Gaster chuckled and went outside, quickly followed by all of his sons. Papyrus made Drako carry him on his shoulders once again, which the taller skeleton didn't mind at all. Vibrant was walking –read 'skating' there– between Torment and him, mumbling about how tall those two were and how unfair it was. He was effectively the smallest one, if Papyrus wasn't counted. But Papyrus was a child, and he knew better than to assume that the little one would stay small. Of course, the dragons weren't counted either, as they weren't skeletons –or weren't anymore, in Demise and Blade's case– and it would be stupid to compare their heights. Torment chuckled and patted his head with a tentacle while playing gently with the fake flowers attached to his skull, making Vibrant huff in annoyance. He was contemplating to steal Edge's heeled boots. It wasn't like the edgy Papyrus needed them; he was already tall enough without them after all! The only problem was that those boots wouldn't go well with his style at all. Oh well, he'll find something eventually.
It didn't take them long to reach the clearing –that Blade affectionately dubbed as the 'take-off clearing'– and Gaster turned into his dragon form, making Vibrant pause and whistle in admiration. "Dat's darn cool pops!" Gaster chuckled and thanked Vibrant while Drako and Torment got on his back. Torment used his tentacles to lift Vibrant and place him between them. "I'm protecting the small one." Vibrant paused, his glasses turning blank before he turned his head toward Torment with a glare –Torment could feel the glare, even without actually seeing his eyes–. "I'm so gonna slap ya, bro." He hissed out in annoyance while Torment just grinned cheekily. Vibrant never cared about the height difference before he had a SOUL, but now that he could feel annoyance for it, Torment wasn't going to hold back his teasing. "Don't be surprised if ya wake up with radical paint and glitters in ya goop, broski."
Torment let out an offended gasp as Gaster took off in the sky. "You wouldn't dare!" They all knew that he would. Drako hummed while putting his younger brothers in front of him, not wanting them to fall from his shoulders. "YoU ReMiND Me ThAT I nEvER gOt ReVeNgE oN ToRMeNt FoR FoRcE-FeEDiNG Me..." Vibrant smirked, his glasses now showing 'OH YES~'. "I'd gladly help ya, my glitchy homie~"
Drako smirked, leaning back and turning his head to wink at Vibrant, whose smirk got bigger. Torment gulped, knowing that he was doomed if the two really decided to ally against him, which they would probably do. "You don't need to do that, you know...?" They both snickered. "Oh YeS We DO." Alright, he was doomed. And if Demise and Blade's snickering were anything to go by, he wouldn't receive any help from them. Just great.
They soon arrived at the village, as Gaster flew quite fast since they didn't have that much time, and they were bound to discuss with Muffet for a little bit. Gaster landed away from the village to change back into his skeleton form once his sons had gotten off his back –because as much as he loved them, he couldn't carry all of them while in his skeleton form. He would be surprise to even manage to carry Drako, maybe Torment and Vibrant but clearly not the three at the same time–. Papyrus wanted to be carried by his father this time, so Gaster did just that, making the little one squeal happily.
Vibrant summoned his skateboard once again and they all started to walk toward the village. The oldest brothers were quite curious about this village's name, as it wasn't Hotland and it couldn't be the MTT Resort either.
They soon arrived in front of a village in which the major color was purple, in all possible shades, which reminded them of the Ruins. Unsurprisingly –at least after seeing the principal color of the village–, the village was named 'Lavender Town'. They could see that the town had a lot of lavender and lilac flowers decorating it. The village was emitting quite a homey feeling; the habitants chatting happily with each others and animating the streets, accompanied by a sweet odor, which they could easily guess was coming from Muffet's café. It seemed like a nice place.
Gaster entered the little town with his sons, gaining some people's attention. Even without his sharpened senses, Drako would have been able to tell that they were talking about them, but now he was definitely sure of it. The comment weren't specially negative; some were worried because of his scars, some found them cute, other were talking about wanting to marry Gaster –he was not happy with those ones and proceeded to give them a dark glare. Nobody was allowed to make advances on his father without him and his brothers approving of them; they didn't want someone only approaching Gaster for his title as the Royal Scientist– and some talking about how well behaved they were, as they weren't causing chaos and were just following their father like the good kids they were.
Oh how much Drako wanted to laugh at them –and he could tell that his brothers wanted to too–. They were anything but good kids! They were destructive beings that could kill everyone in this universe in just a few minutes without breaking a sweat. That was the type of kids they are. How foolish of those persons to think that they were 'little angels' –he wasn't exaggerating, someone did call them like this–. They were most likely to be 'little demons', really.
They soon arrived in front of the café and entered it, the soft sound of a bell serving as a warning of their arrival. The brothers looked around the café, unsurprised to see that it looked mostly like Underswap Muffet's café, but bigger and with slightly more customers. Which meant that it was the opposite of Grillby's restaurant –basically meaning that the tables on the left were on the right and vice-versa–, while still staying quite similar, but in purple shade. They also noticed a big purplish pink dragon sleeping in a backroom with a huge open door, and they guessed that it was Cupcake's counterpart.
Gaster went to a booth near the door, quickly followed by his sons. They all sat down, waiting for Muffet to come to them, as the owner of the café was already busy with someone else's command. Drako immediately started to play with a little spider that came to greet them, smiling as he did so. "So, how does it look compared to other Muffet's?"
Blade shrugged, looking around from his place on Torment's shoulder. "Undertale's Muffet doesn't really have a café, more like a stall between two zones. In UnderSwap, Muffet remplace Grillby and have her café, which is very similar to this one, but smaller." Gaster hummed, smiling at a little spider placing a little sign on the table to inform Muffet that they were waiting for her. The spider seemed to nod before going away, not before saluting its friend that was playing with Drako.
It didn't take long for the Spider Monster to come to them on her rollers. The brothers took the time to analyze the Spider. She wore an outfit quite similar to her UnderSwap counterpart but in purple and black. Her skin was white and her eyes black, which were decorated by a little bit of makeup, barely noticeable but still there. Her hair were an ash-like grey with white glint and some white highlights, and seemed to be a bit longer than her counterparts'. They were attached in a high ponytail.
Muffet looked at them, cooing softly at the sight of the brothers before leaning on the table, offering a soft smile to the new additions to the family. "Gaster, dearie, are they your kids? They are adorable!" They all internally cringed at the compliment, offering awkward smiles at the adult in response. What was up with people calling them adorable?
"Indeed, meet Drako, Torment and Vibrant." He gestured to each of them while introducing them, making them mutter a small greeting as their respective names were said. He then gestured to the dragons. "And those two are Demise and Blade." Muffet frowned when noticing that Vibrant didn't have a dragon but, seeing Gaster shook his head, didn't question it. Maybe he hadn't met his dragon yet or... Something happened. In both cases, she better not ask. "It is a pleasure to finally meet you all, dearies~" They all nodded and said that it was a pleasure for them too, making her coo once again and place one of her pair of arms on her chest while mumbling about how cute they were, one of her many hands placed against her cheek.
"If I may ask though, what brings you in my café? I know that you usually go to Grillby's restaurant, as it is closer to your house. Did you finally notice how superior my pastries were? Huhuhu~" Gaster sighed but smiled at this slight pike thrown at Grillby. It was well known that the two had a friendly rivalry going on. Gaster wasn't even sure why they were rivals, but they were, and never wanted to tell him the reason. "My sons will be meeting... Friends, at four, and I thought that it would be a great idea for them to feast on your delicious pastries while they talk. They never had the pleasure of tasting them, so I thought it would be a good opportunity." He left unsaid the fact that Grillby didn't make pastries, making it impossible for him to go to the fire elemental anyway.
The Spider woman giggled in pride at the praise. "Oh dears, I will make you the best snacks you could ever dream of~" They all smiled. "We don't doubt it, Miss." Muffet smiled widely before grabbing her pen and her notepad. "So~ What may I offer you?~"
They let Gaster order for them, as they didn't know what Muffet was selling. Of course, there were the usual things, such as the Spider Donut and Spider Cider, but there were a lot of new things too; all sort of pastries and cakes, really. Muffet nodded once the command was done and went away to prepare it.
She came back soon after with a small paper bag –definitely magic because there was no way that everything Gaster ordered fit in it otherwise– for them to bring with them, and a second one because Gaster ordered treats for Sans and Papyrus too, as he wouldn't just buy something for his eldest but not for them; it wouldn't be fair for his little angels. Gaster thanked her and paid for everything –surprisingly, the prices weren't as exorbitant as the Original Muffet– while Sans and Papyrus started to eat their treats –Papyrus and Vibrant both had threw their lollipop's sticks away a while ago– and unsurprisingly gave some to Gaster. Or rather, unsurprisingly for the teenagers, as Gaster seemed surprised by the sweet gesture. The brothers didn't miss how the spider lady put more pastries than ordered for free in the bag, and she seemed to realize it, considering how she discreetly raised a finger to her lips and winked at them.
Once done, Gaster changed back into his dragon form and took his youngest on his back while Torment looked at his phone. "We need to go now, we'll see you again once this discussion will be over." Gaster nodded. "Be careful please." They all nodded, even though they knew that there was fifty percent of chances that something would go wrong. It was their incredible luck talking, not them.
That being said, Torment opened a portal toward Outertale's cliff, waving goodbye at his father and younger brothers while Gaster started to fly back home. Welp, time to suffer now.
