Chapter 4
At first, there was nothing. Only darkness and cold. Error couldn't see anything –and for once it wasn't because of his shitty vision–. He couldn't feel anything. He couldn't touch anything. It was only darkness, and the freezing cold of the Void. He didn't expect the Void to be like this honestly, but it wasn't that much of a surprise. Actually, he never really thought about how the Void could be. He tried to raise his hand, only to be met by pure darkness and an excruciating pain. He couldn't see his own hand!
Then the 'take apart-put back together' part of the fun begun. Error could only scream –but was he really screaming? He couldn't hear himself. The silence was the only thing he could hear, and it never seemed so loud before. Possibly because of the Voices, he wasn't used to the silence– in pain at the feeling of his codes being destroyed and reformed again and again.
It felt like an eternity before everything suddenly stopped. The pain, the cold, the darkness, everything stopped. The cold was replaced by strangely comforting warmth, the darkness by a soft light and the pain suddenly ceased like it never existed. He seemed to land gently on something –not that he could tell what, he was still completely paralyzed and couldn't turn around to look– warm. Actually, the warmth he was feeling seemed to come from there. It also seemed to be the source of the light, which made Error curious. What could it be? What was holding him? And why did he feel strangely at peace in its' hold?
He was gently moved to face the thing, and could now perceive the silhouette of a being made of light. It –or maybe they? Yes, he'll go with they– emitted a red and golden aura, some specks of orange in-between the two colors. It was impossible to associate a gender to the figure, since their features where hidden by the glow surrounding their body. He felt strangely safe in their hold.
Soon, another being made of light came into view. This being was mostly emitting a soft blue aura, accompanied by some traces of white. Both colors were mixing perfectly, and at the same time seemed to not disturb the other. It was truly a beautiful sight. The second being went near the first, both of their auras mixing together between the two. The second one began to talk.
"Error, Forced God of Destruction. By falling into the Void, your Destiny was changed. You will now be free from Fate's grip. Dot not fret, dear child, for you are now safe."
The first then continued to talk, while the second approached what seemed to be their hand toward the Destroyer's body, who still couldn't move. He began to panic, thinking they were going to hurt him, until he felt what he guessed was a finger –since they were considerably taller than him– gently caress his skull, resulting in him purring softly without being able to prevent it. He could only curse internally.
"We know it wasn't your Choice to fall into the Void, and that you probably only want to go back to your family. Sadly, we cannot put you back there, for your own safety. Worry not, we will look after those you care for, and will try to save them when the end arrives. We cannot guarantee you that it will end well, only Time can tell. But we can assure you that those Blind Judges will face their Karma now that you're gone."
Error opened his mouth to ask-no to beg them to put him back where he belongs. He doesn't want his family to suffer; he needs to protect them! They are his and he just can't leave what is his behind like this. He didn't want this! Sadly, no sound escaped his 'lips', as if the Void was drowning them, forcing him in a mute state. He felt tears appearing at his eyes, slowly starting to go down his cheeks only to start floating slightly above him and continue to go upward, as if he was still falling, even if he was very much still.
"Shh... Do not cry, my child, we can't put you back there, even if we wanted, Void, the Deity who own the Void would not let anyone go back after falling. Not because he doesn't want to, but because it is his duty as a Deity. We are sincerely sorry. We will try to lead your friends toward you, but we can't promise you anything, for our grip on Fate's Multiverse is only minor."
Error felt devastated, understanding that there was no way for him to protect his family anymore. Only time could tell if they would be able to find him wherever those two wanted to put him. Only their luck could save them now. He couldn't do anything and he hated it. 'All of that because of that stupid Squid...' He could feel his already strong hate for the artistic skeleton grow with each passing second, knowing he condemned his loved ones to a possibly horrible death.
"We will now send you somewhere where you will be able to heal."
The first being than spoke again.
"But before we send you away, we must do some... Changes to your appearance, ufufu~"
He didn't like the sound of it. He didn't like it at all. That laugh sounded way too mischievous for his liking. It probably wasn't good.
Before he could panic even more, the sound of a small slap resonated in the Void –he was confused, now that he knew there was a Deity named Void too–, followed by the whining of the first being. The second then started to scold then gently.
"Karma! Do not scare my child!"
The first being, named Karma, laughed and apologized to the second, who was apparently named Destiny. They sounded close, like he himself sounded with his family. That only fueled the pain in his SOUL. Talking about his SOUL, he felt it being gently pulled out of his body by Karma, while Destiny started to try to heal his injuries. They warned that they wouldn't be able to do much, since they had to conserve enough magic to send him to his 'new home', but even though, he was grateful when he felt his most recent injures being closed. Of course, the scars stayed, accompanied by the new ones of the ambush, but it was more than enough, considering he probably wouldn't have taken care of them himself. Nightmare's gang would probably have been the ones to really try to heal him.
He felt his ever-changing codes being modified slightly, surprisingly without it causing any pain. When Fate changed his codes, it was always painful. Now that he thinks about it, it was probably because they wanted him to suffer. How nice of them...
He could feel somethings change in him, but couldn't exactly say what. He didn't know what that 'Karma' was doing and wasn't even sure if they were trustworthy or not. He could easily tell they were a Deity; they knew Fate and seemed to know others, like Void. But it was all he knew about them. How could he trust them, considering the only Deity he ever interacted with was responsible of his endless torture? Even if they gave off a feeling of love, comfort and safeness, it could be only a way to deceive him... He wanted to think they weren't dangerous, he really did. They words seemed to show that they only wanted the better for him and his family... But it could all be an act. But then, why would Destiny heal him? To hurt him better after? No, they were probably trustworthy... Probably.
After a while, Karma sighed and put his SOUL back in his chest, while Destiny finally finished closing all his wounds and connecting all his bones back together. Karma then slowly passed a hand above him before humming.
"Yep, all of his wounds are closed, good job Destiny."
Error saw the Destiny's glow move slightly, and he guessed they simply nodded as a response.
"Are you done with his codes?"
It was Karma's turn to nod.
"Yes, but I couldn't take off Fate's strings on his SOUL. My magic would directly alert her that something is wrong with Error and they would forcefully try to take him back to his Multiverse. You know the consequences of going against the Void's rules; it wouldn't end well. Therefore, I'll let you take care of those. Being their sibling should make it easier for you. I'll then put my protection."
Destiny hummed softly, taking back his SOUL out of his body. Without seeing their face, Error could feel that they were cringing at the sight of Fate's strings on his SOUL. They were forcefully put there; keeping his SOUL from being destroyed and constricting it at the same time. They sometimes tightened their grip on his SOUL just to hurt him or 'encourage' him to destroy. He saw Destiny approach their hand toward his SOUL, gently grabbing the strings.
"I'm sorry dear child, it may hurt a little, but it must be done."
Before Error could really comprehend those words, Destiny let their magic flow from their fingertips toward the strings, attacking them. The magic slowly started to dissolve the strings into little particles of red magic, leaving his SOUL free for the first time in eons. It did hurt a little, but the pain was almost nonexistent, and he knew it wasn't just because of his high pain tolerance; SOUL injuries always hurt more than physical injuries.
"I'm now going to put my own strings around your SOUL as a protection; do not worry, it won't hurt like Fate's strings."
Magical white strings then started to gently wrap themselves around his SOUL, bringing with them a feeling of peace and safety. Unlike Fate's strings, they didn't dig into the colored heart, only staying close; like they were hugging his SOUL and protecting it. It felt definitely nicer.
Destiny gently held his SOUL toward Karma, who used his magic on it. There wasn't really any visible proof of the magic; beside the white strings gaining a soft golden color at certain places, but Error could tell they did something. He could feel the intent of the magic. It was a protection, as Karma said previously. He definitively felt protected, and weirdly loved. It was strange but he liked it, if he was honest.
Karma hummed softly, inspecting his SOUL.
"Perfect, we're done for this part Destiny. Now... I'm sorry, dear child, but it is time for you to rest. I am not sure if you'll remember all of this when you will wake up, but know that when you do, you'll be far away. In a place where you'll be safe. Of course, things won't be always easy and you will meet some complications... However, in the end, it will be worth it and you will be able to finally heal. You will find a new family, new friends, maybe even more. No more Fate, no more forced destruction. You are now free, child. Destiny and Karma watch over you."
Before he could even try to question the Deity, Error felt his consciousness fade, and before he knew it, he was asleep. It was also the first time in eons he slept. He didn't have time before; Ink was always creating and tipping the Balance too far on the Creation side.
Even in his sleep, he could feel the loving stares directed toward him, and it made him smile in his, for once, peaceful slumber. Usually, his sleep was haunted by the screams of his past victims. Dream took away his possibility to have dreams, and Nightmare couldn't do anything since those nightmares were caused by Fate themselves. Otherwise, he didn't let any member of his family have nightmares, and he did try his best to stop Error's. He only ever managed to make them less horrible, and to lower their number. So, after some time, Error just stopped sleeping. He could work faster, and was less likely to meet Ink when destroying at night.
Destiny sighed, watching their Chosen Child with a soft smile, gently caressing his skull while Karma was holding him lovingly.
"Our poor child didn't deserve this... He didn't deserve any of this..."
Karma also sighed, gently cradling the Forced Destroyer, watching his peaceful expression with a tender look in their eyes that wasn't often see on the Deity of Karma's face.
"I know. But it's over. He will heal. Now, let's finish the modifications on him and send him away before the devil tries to get him."
Destiny laughed a crystalline laugh after hearing their sibling being called a devil –because that's what they were for them– and nodded softly, summoning their magic and fusing it with Karma's magic before directing it in Error's SOUL. They then whispered gently but firmly the purpose of this new addition and smiled when they saw the SOUL move gently, as if it was nodding to make them understand it accepted its duty.
"It is done. Our child is now ready."
Karma hummed softly, holding the broken skeleton toward Destiny, who placed their hand near Karma's, cupping the black boned skeleton into their two hands with a smile. They nodded at each other before opening a portal to a different Multiverse.
"Be ready, dear child, for a whole new adventure."
They then gently dropped him off into a specific universe, quite new and still very unknown to the rest of the Multiverse, for it was created by the Deities specifically for Error's arrival. Nobody would come to this universe until quite a long time. Their child was safe, he would be free and would have the time to prepare himself before meeting the others.
"Oh! Maybe Error would like a place to himself!"
Karma looked at Destiny, seeming interested.
"Are you talking about what I think?"
Seeing the Deity nod, Karma smirked slightly, opening the codes of the Multiverse once more.
"Great idea. I'm going to connect it to Error."
Destiny smiled happily, watching Karma create the place they were talking about. They helped a bit, mostly proposing ideas, and after a while, it was done. They then put a note to encourage their child to change this place like they wanted and made sure that the special additions were done correctly. The place was directly connected to Error, only allowing him to choose who could and couldn't get in.
They then closed the portal and the codes, smiling at each other and going away before Fate could learn what happened. If they knew, they would try to find Karma and Destiny's Chosen Child already. They wouldn't know they were the ones who took him away, and they would never find him. Fate lost their Multiverse's savior, and those Blind Judges will be faced with Karma themselves for their actions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm not really proud of this chapter honestly.
Otherwise, I was thinking about posting maybe twice a week instead of once, since I'm starting to have a few chapters waiting to be posted, what do you think?
I also have a lot of ideas for other stories (it's really hard to stay focused on this one, but I know that if I start another one, this one will most likely be discontinued in the end because I won't be able to continue the two-), but I have absolutely no idea which one I'll do after this one.
Would you like me to put a few things about those ideas for you to choose in the next chapter? Or another chapter, I don't know yet-
Lunar's out!~
