Chapter ten

Avalon was ready to swing.
What was this?? A curse?? Was she being punished??
She could think of absolutely no explanation for why all of these HORRIBLE events were taking place. First she meets a stalker, then some guys gang up on her, she's injured, then forced to stay at said stalker's house until a ridiculous storm endsー in his BED, even??
All of it felt like a nightmare.
The weirdest part was her dad.
No matter how many times Avalon ran it through her head, she couldn't understand it. What father would allow his teenage daughter to not only stay at an unfamiliar house alone with someone he's never met beforeー a boy, no less!ー and leave her there overnight, but also be completely unconcerned with that fact!
A boy!
All of this was far too fishy.
Despite Rune's best attempts to start a conversation with her, Avalon shut him out with ease. She wasn't going to let up... She didn't trust him one bit. Especially not after his essential confession of love just days before.
That put a damper on Rune's plans. He'd been dealt a good hand today, but he couldn't live it up to the fullest... He'd already lucked out once, if he could just have one more shining moment...
Regardless, Avalon laid in the guest bedroom, rolling around on the bed and groaning, clearly unhappy with the turn of events. In all actuality, it kind of hurt Rune's feelings, but he knew that this was part of who Avalon was, and he reveled in that knowledge.
Rune came into the bedroom for the hundredth time, peeking quietly through the doorway. "Is your ankle feeling okay?"
Avalon turned to glare daggers at him. "Yes. Just as okay as it was ten seconds ago."
Rune gave a sheepish smile and stepped fully into the room, sitting at the edge of her bed, causing Avalon to promptly roll to the other side.
"You keep groaning," Rune explained matter-of-factly. "I just wanted to make sure."
Avalon stuck her tongue out at him.
"I'm groaning because I'm bored."
Rune only laughed a little at this, earning him a fierce glare, and crossed his legs, turning to face her more directly.
"Would you like me to entertain you, then?"
Avalon sat up at this, seeming to be a little more interested now. "How would you do that?"
Rune couldn't help smiling at her child-like interest at the sound of a game.
"Well," he started gently. "We could play twenty questions or something like that." He grinned broadly at her. "I've been dying to know more about you."
Avalon immediately seemed to lose interest at his declaration and rolled onto her back with a groan. "That's lame."
She turned her head to glare up at him. "Besidesー I don't feel obliged to tell you anything about myself."
Rune only laughed lightly. The surprises never ended with her. He could never tell just what she was thinking. Still wearing his Cheshire-like grin, he sprawled out on the bed next to her, looking at her clearly unamused face, undeterred.
"Can't you just humor me?"

"No."

Rune laughed, getting on Avalon's nerves for the millionth time. He laughed at everything...
Take me seriously, wiener...
In spite of Avalon's usual disinterested response, Rune pressed forward, undaunted. He was determined to know more about her...
"I would tell you anything about me," he challenged, leaning towards her. "I'm not afraid."
Avalon scoffed at this and rolled onto her stomach, glaring over at him. "You think I'm scared?"

"Maybe."

"Hah. Nice try. I'm fearless. Try again."

"No one is fearless."

"Oh yeah?" She leaned towards him, extending her arms to push herself up high enough to look down on him. "Ya think so?"
Rune seemed to be somewhat startled by her boldness, but he was still interested enough in it that he looked back at her in awe, wondering what her next move would be. She was just so fascinating...
Seeing she'd caught him off guard, Avalon grinned a little to herself and leaned even closer into his face, close enough that their noses brushed together and he could feel her warm breath against his skin.
"Wanna see just how fearless I can be?"
Rune's heart was beating so fast he thought it might burst...
Can she hear it....?
Just before Avalon's lips reached his, his body aching from her touch, tingling from the anticipation and sexual tension she was putting him through, rendering him speechless, Avalon easily pulled away from him, looking completely unconcerned as she flopped back down on her back, her arms resting behind her head as she gave a snorting laugh.
"As if."
Rune's heart felt like it would burst from the strain and he glanced over at her in amazement, letting out the shaky breath he'd been holding.
What a woman...
He had no idea anyone so small could do so much to him.
While he was, of course, disappointed, her teasing nature and "hard to get" attitude made her even more alluring. Almost rumbling low in his throat at the encounter, Rune pushed himself up to now hover over her, looking down at her with glowing eyes. He was pleasantly surprised to see that the action seemed to equally startle her.
"Now, kitten," he taunted in a low voice. "You should know better than to do that to a man."
Avalon immediately panicked underneath him, twitching as she tried to get out from under him.
"G-get off me...! You pervert!"
What is he, crazy???
Dad, how could you leave me in the clutches of this heathen?!
"How unfair," Rune went on, purring like a content cat as he watched her squirm. "I'm not allowed to do what you did to me? I'm hurt."
Avalon thrashed pointlessly again and again, glaring daggers at him. "I mean it! Let me go...!"

"I don't think I will. Sorry, bright eyes... I have to get my revenge."

He began to draw his face closer, and Avalon knew for sure she was done for. He leaned closer and closer, Avalon's heart pounding so hard she could hear it ringing in her ears.
Stop...!
Wait...!
Ignoring her squirms and twists, he brought his mouth down below her chin, ducking beneath it, and as he drew his lips close against her skin, Avalon fit to explode, he took in a deep breath and blew raspberries against her throat with a resounding "pbbbttttt."
Avalon thought she was going to have a heart attack as he finally pulled away, laughing himself sick.
She snapped her neck around to face his direction, gawking at him in disbelief.
Grinning from ear to ear, he met her gaze, looking pleased with himself.
"Your face is red, Mrs. Fearless."
Avalon set her jaw, glaring him down hard enough to kill and hissed through gritted teeth, "I hate you."
