Chapter fifteen
Avalon hated to admit it... but Rune was one hell of a cook.
She watched in awe as he nimbly moved back and forth across the kitchen, looking every bit like he was performing his own cooking show. Where had he learned to cook like that...?
Rune took great pleasure in the face she made as she watched him work. He liked impressing her... he felt like a peacock strutting as he displayed his feathers.
Avalon tried to take her attention away from the performance as she turned back to the task at hand.
"Why am I eating dinner here instead of going back home, Rune?" She accused.
"Do you want pepper in yours?"
"Pepper's fine. Are you listening to me?"
"Hearing, not listening."
Avalon scowled, hoping her sharp gaze would burn a hole through his head. He was avoiding the question...
This brat.
He's planning on keeping me forever, isn't he!
Sighing heavily, Avalon turned to the table.
"Fine. Be that way. I'll be over here."
Throwing herself in a chair with a huff, she rested her head in her hand and waited impatiently for him to be done so they could hopefully discuss her freedom.
After what felt like forever of waiting, Rune finally approached her and laid two plates of food out on the table, sitting down just across from her.
The grin on his face annoyed her.
Rolling her eyes, she picked up her fork and took her first bite of the food he'd made for them. She had intended to broach the matter of getting back home, but the moment she started to chew, the thought completely escaped her.
What the...!
This is amazing...!
Rune felt pleased that she looked so delighted by the food he made her, until she raised her head and cut her eyes at him sharply. With her mouth still full, she grit out, "... did you poison this."
Rune laughed heartily. "Why would you think that, kitten?"
"Just seems like something you'd do. And don't call me kitten."
Simply shrugging it off, Rune tried not to smile and dug into his own plate of food. Avalon scowled.
This food is too damn good. I don't trust it.
At this point, it wouldn't surprise her one bit if it was poisoned and she just passed out after eating.
She actually sort of bet on it.
Nevertheless, eating the entire plate like a pig, nothing ever happened, and she remained fully conscious.
Thankfully, that meant she could finally start interrogating him into letting her go back home.
"Rune, it's been two days. Im going home now."
The moment she'd finished speaking, an uncomfortable look crossed Rune's face and he paused the action of cleaning the dishes as he looked over at her. "Now...? But.. I haven't made dessert..."
"Rune."
She wasn't fooling around anymore.
She was going home.
"Take me home. I'm not asking."
There was an uncomfortable silence that settled over them, and Rune looked at her with an unreadable expression.
"I can't let you."
