Chapter 4: Chased Lightning

Colin's POV:

I REALLY need to stop getting in these situations I thought as I kept dodging and twirling in the sky and out of the way of the fireballs and spines being shot at me.

Now your probably wondering how I got into this situation. Well I woke up, after a dark and painful fall, on a huge glacier. After panicking about the fact I was a very lanky, two-legged, slightly metallic, purple and black dragon for a few minutes Zata for some reason calmed me down enough to assess the situation first before asking all the head throbbing questions. So I walked around until I saw a few bolts of lightning strike somewhere so I decided to check it out. When I got there I saw flying in the sky, a reptile that looked like me and it was just flying away from where the lightning struck. Where it struck there was a long crevice in the ice. It was as long as the clearing it was in and just wide enough for a creature of that size. It's/you're a dragon Zata had to remind me a few times because apparently I'm a dragon now.

A few minutes after the dragon, Zata 'encouraged' me to try flying. Well more like a you-do-it-or-I'll-do-myself, kind of deal. So I did and I was surprisingly good at it considering I never had wings before. After a couple of hours of practicing and exploring later I head back to the clearing with the ice crevice. Then I see something in the sky. With this incredible new eyesight I could see 7 different dragons with people on them. Zata warns me to be weary of them and, for once, I feel like he's right. My suspicions are confirmed when the dragons suddenly stop and the one in front, which is a completely black dragon with a skinny, one legged guy on its back, looks at me shocked and angrily, and the human on its back yells something along the lines of "It escaped!? We have to get back in!" an that's when they started attacking me. They forced me to flee the glacier, much to Zata's annoyance.

And here we are an hour later and they're still chasing me. I have tried to ask several times what I did wrong but all I get are angry and frustrated shouts from both man and dragon. I has been getting stormy and the clouds have lightning going through them so I have been sticking close to the ocean even through Zata's protest and this weird urge I have to go up to clouds and be in the eye of the storm. I have been getting sick of dodging these streams of fire and spikes and frankly, they were starting to get closer. So I turn my head behind me to look at my attackers and I yell with all my fury "LEAVE ME ALONE ALREADY!!" growling out the last word. And with the last word I felt this tingling in the back of my throat and before I knew it a stream of electricity was out of my mouth and blasting the big round dragon in the back. I was in shock; no pun intended. Less thinking more BLASTING Zata shouted in my head and see as this would only benefit me I listened and started to attack as I fled.

As I dodged another "spine shot," as I heard the girl riding the blue dragon call the attack, a thought dawned on me. The dragon riders seemed to expect that I could breath electricity and want to keep me near the water, so what if I go in the water and swim away? They definitely won't be expecting that. I go over the plan with Zata expecting a total shut down, but he actually agrees with me. Wait seriously?! No complaints, no ominous threats, no doubts?? What's gotten in to you? I ask in disbelief. First he's actually giving me good advice and now he goes along with what I think we should do. Nothing, it's just... look we're in a new world that obviously isn't our own, and frankly I just want to see another day. But that DOESN'T mean that we're gonna be all buddy buddy, you hear?! he explains and I agree with him. I didn't really think a nice Zata would be that useful in a time like this.

So I wait until they've fired another barrage of attacks that I narrowly miss, I suck in a big breath and dive in to the sea. At first the shock of the cold water keeps me from thinking straight but once I get over it see that I got down a bit further than I wanted to but it's fine seeing as I'm having a really easy time holding my breath and they clearly can't see me in the dark ocean. So I start to swim, turning a bit to the right as I do and using my big wings as paddles. After about ten minutes I start needing air so, very carefully, I peek my head above the water. I look around and see that the seven dragons have turned into seven dots. They're pretty far away but if I can still see them, then they can still see me, so I dive back down and keep swimming while praying that they didn't see me while my head was above water. If they did then be prepared when we emerge next Zata cautions as I swim for another 10 minutes before resurfacing for air. I look back and the dots of dragons are the same size as they were before.

Uh oh I think to my shadow dragon yeah I see them Zata replies and I get ready to leap out of the water. Once i'm able to make out a bit more detail on the dragons I shoot up out of the water and towards the thundering clouds that are now absolutely pouring down rain. I shook off the water that was on me as I entered the clouds and once I was able to fully take in the feeling of the static in the air, the cold clouds, and the forming raindrops as they fell from the clouds, I felt a lot more confident. Don't get ahead of yourself, I don't need you being cocky now Zata warned me as I felt a light shock on my back. I look to see lightning start to strike the long metallic spines on my back and I feel powerful and energized, like I could do anything! But that feeling only last a few seconds as the dragons with the humans on them burst through the clouds and try to circle me. I quickly got away from them and flew off once again. "I just want them to leave me alone, I mean what did I do to them!?" I start to rant off to no one in particular.

I continue to fly away and dodge their attacks when I see something peek through the clouds below me. It was something green and I immediately assume that it could be land so taking a risk by blowing my cover, I duck below the clouds and ahead I can see a few columns of rocks surrounding an island with lots of trees and cliffs as well as a few mountains. I speed next to a cliff that was over a forest when suddenly something heavy rams in to my side.

We plummet to the ground and land with a thud. My breathing turns in to hyperventilating and my previous ranting turns silent as the thing that rammed in to me pressed down on me and when I tried to look up it pressed my head down with a large, thick, stone-like claw. I looked up with just my eyes to see the round head of a stone dragon statue with completely white eyes. Except, it was moving and breathing and it seems that that was the thing that brought me down I was about to roar and shoot lightning but it slightly pressed down on my snout and said in a whisper "Shush or they'll hear you, I'm just trying to help Colin." I looked in his eyes and I saw patience and concern in them so I believed him. And so we sat in a tense silence as the people and dragons came closer to where they were hidden by the trees and brush.
