Hera, Ezra and Sabine ran through the forest as fast as they could. They'd been running for almost half an hour.
They stopped by a steam for a drink.
Ezra looked over his shoulder at the Valley of Warriors.

"Ezra? You alright?" Hera asked.

The young dragon looked at her fearfully.

"Kanan and the others just risked their own lives to help us escape. They're facing a living nightmare and all were doing is running from the battle."

"Ezra. Kanan told us to run" Hera said gently.

"He's up against Vader and his Inquisitors Hera. Hardly anyone can survive them" Ezra protested. 

"He's survived them this long" Sabine said.

Ezra sighed and looked back at the valley. His breath catched as he saw black smoke rising from his home.

"Kanan" he whispered.

He turned and flapped into the air. Racing across the light-fading sky like a bullet.

"Ezra! Ezra wait!" Hera called.

Sabine and Hera flew after Ezra but neither were as fast as him. He was turning into a speck as he gained more distance.

"Come on!" Sabine told Hera and plunged after her friend.

Hera and Sabine landed in the Valley of Warriors ten minutes later. Trees were on fire, burnt charcoal littered the ground, and the caves and plants were destroyed.
Zeb, Ahsoka, Chopper and Rex were lying on the earth. Sides rising and falling heavily as they breathed. Scars, bite marks and claw scrapes were engraved in their scales.
Hera looked round then saw a large green dragon lying motionless on the ground.

"Kanan" Hera whispered.

She ran over to her husband while Sabine checked everyone else was alive. Hera was horrified to see long bloody gashes over her friend. His eyes were closed and he wasn't moving at all. What really worried Hera was that he wasn't showing any signs of breathing.

"Kanan?" She asked gently nudging his face with her forehead.

"Kanan are you in there? Come back to me."

Tears filled Hera's eyes as Kanan stayed still.
With a shaky breath, she pressed her face against his and gave a sob.

"Don't cry Sky Warrior."

Hera's head shot up and she looked down on Kanan. The male dragon's teal pupils were looking up at her.

"You never know the right time Protector" Hera laughed and rubbed her face against his.

Kanan returned the gesture.
'Sky Warrior' was the nick name Kanan gave Hera when they were fighting Tua and Kallus once.
She'd returned the name with her own to Kanan which was 'Protector.' 
She'd given him the name when he saved her life from Vader.

"Where's Ezra?" Kanan asked as she helped him up.

"What do you mean? He was heading in your direction" Hera said in confusion.

"What? You let him go?" Kanan asked in bewilderment.

"He saw the smoke and took off before we could stop him."

Kanan swallowed.
If Ezra wasn't with them he was with their enemy.

Ezra was with the Empire Pack.
