Kanan landed beside Ezra and felt his joy of winning the battle ebb away. Seeing Ezra dead was just too painful to describe. Kanan put a paw on the cub's side and exhaled slowly. 

"I remember the first day we met" Kanan said.

"The first time I laid my eyes on you, I instantly knew there was something special inside you. Every moment we spent together I felt like more than a Master, I felt like a father."

Kanan felt tears swelling in his eyes and did nothing to stop them from falling from his face. Golden tear drops slipped and landed on Ezra. The cub's wound catching the tears as Kanan wept quietly. He rested his forehead on Ezra's side.

"Ever since you joined our pack, everyday was a new adventure for me. You made me feel stronger then I ever did."

Kanan gave a sob before continuing.

"I'll never forget you Ezra, I can't. You've brought so much into my life that I never thought I'd have. Thank you."

A faint groaning made Kanan's head shoot up. He looked down on Ezra who shuddered and began violently coughing.

"Ezra?" Kanan asked in a whisper, not believing what he was seeing. 

Ezra opened an eye at his master and smirked slightly.  

"That's the last time I risk my life for you" he said weakly, but there was a note of playfulness in his voice. 

"Ezra!" Kanan laughed, completely overjoyed by the sight of seeing his Padawan alive, hugged the boy tightly to his chest. 

Ezra clung to Kanan like he was going to lose him.
"It's alright" Kanan whispered, tears still flowing.

"The nightmares over. We can go home."
