Chapter 4

"I cannot believe its Monday" I say, groaning as I get ready for school. "Who even invented school?" I ask as loudly as I can to no one in particular.

"Hurry up Ricky; I don't want to be late for work." Mum screams loud enough for me to hear from my bedroom

"Jeez, can't a girl get some sleep around here?" Aunt Veronica complains. She has the day off from work for reasons I do not know.

Not bothering to apologize, mum and I stomp downstairs and shut the door behind us. Soon, we're on our way.

It's an assembly day and as we seat watching a boring presentation Dr. Eli made on time management, my mind wanders to the fact that Mrs. Williams had said she had three daughters. Maybe, just maybe...

"Ricky!" Alex snaps me out of my thoughts with a loud whisper.

"What?" I demand.

"Are you okay? I mean, you've been staring into space and smiling all dopey-like"

"Jesus Christ" I chuckle. "Yeah, I'm okay. Was just thinking"

"Saga Boy back?"

"Probably" I reply with a huge grin on my face.

"Jericho Davis and Alex Roberts please stand up" says Dr. Eli all the way from the stage up on the front of the auditorium.

Shoot! I'd forgotten all about the presentation and had maybe, sort of accidentally been talking too loudly.

"Care to share your topic of discussion with the whole school? I'm sure they'd be eager to know."

No one dared laugh at her remark. I mean, who in their right mind would want to laugh when Dr. Eli was telling people off? It's just something you don't do.

"Sorry Dr. Eli" Alex and I mumble.

"What's that you say? I didn't quite pick it out" she lies whilst cupping her hand behind her ear. I can tell she's enjoying this.

"Sorry Dr. Eli" we both say again, a bit louder this time

"You may retake your seats" she commands without even acknowledging our apologies. Oh, if I didn't care about trying to be a good kid, the things I would do without a second thought.

Once assembly is over, we head back to our homerooms and as we make light talk, vice Principal Carter comes in with who I'm assuming is one of the new students Mary had talked about earlier. I'd actually forgotten all about it until now.

After mumbling my greeting to Mr. Carter, I take out time to check out the girl standing beside him, absentmindedly shuffling her feet.

She has really dark hair which is as wild as the amazon forest, flawless olive skin, dark brown eyes that look so intense and the cutest little lips. She's beautiful and even the trashy school uniform looks good on her. I've never seen anyone with Marley twists like hers look so good. Damn, isn't that hair against school rules or something?

"Everyone, this is Davina Williams, your new classmate. Please make her feel welcome"

Williams, Williams, where had I heard that before? My forehead creases as I try to think and then to comes to me.

Wait, what? Did I just hear right? This is the daughter of my new neighbor? I can't help but squeal happily.

"Is there a problem Mr. Davis?" asks our vice principal

"No sir" I mumble and move down in my seat. Way to go on squealing too loudly Ricky, I think to myself.

"Seeing as you're so excited to have a new classmate, maybe you can show her around" says Mr. Carter

Jackpot! "Uhm, sure Mr. Carter. No problem" I reply, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible.

Just as the vice principal and I round off our short conversation, the bell goes for first period and I inwardly groan because it just so happens to be English.

I pick up my stuff from my table and go to find out if Davina needs any help.

"I have English first period, do you think you could show me where the class holds?" she asks before I even get the chance to open my mouth. A little confident, are we? I think to myself...that'll make it more interesting

"Uh...sure. We can walk there together since I have English first period too." I say acting like it's no big deal.

"Uh...sure" she says, mimicking me and laughing.

I just stand there, smiling stupidly, acting like I don't know what to say. After getting her things, we head out of homeroom and towards the stairs. Alex walks by me and winks before quickly making his escape. That's the thing about Alex, he never wants to seem like he's interfering with anything.

"So, your family just moved in at St. Georges Road huh?"

"Yeah, how'd you know?" she asks, a bit taken aback by my question.

"I live a few houses down. My mum actually made me join her on a 'welcome visit' to your place this weekend. You weren't there though"

Chuckling now, she replies "my sisters and I were over at my aunt's place. And I think that was very nice of your mum."

"Yeah, I guess it was." I reply, trying to sound casual. By now we're going down the hallway that leads to the English classroom and as we walk in I motion for Davina to go talk to Mr. Kennedy before settling down at the back of the class.

When she's done, she gets a seat up front and gets comfortable.

"I believe you all have you assignments ready" states our English teacher.

Shoot! I totally left my paper in homeroom. Quickly excusing myself, I rush down to get it all the way thinking of how I definitely do not want to get on Mr. Kennedy's bad side on a Monday morning.

Bursting into my homeroom I quickly start talking on autopilot.

"Don't worry Mr. Winston, I'm not skipping class, I have a pa-"

I stop dead in my tracks and stare with eyes the size of flying saucers. Right there in front of me, talking to my homeroom tutor is Davina. How on earth?

"H-how did you do that?" I stutter

"Do what? She asks, furrowing her eyebrows at me. "Have we met?" she chuckles.

"You just met me a few moments ago! We were upstairs having English, then I had to get something from my binder and I swear I saw you sitting up front in class before dashing downstairs but now you're here" the words just roll right off my tongue as I try to make sense of the situation at hand. Wait, is she a witch? magician? goddess?

Paranoid, I know. But still...you never know

"Earth to, stutter boy" she says snapping her fingers in front of my face. For some reason she's laughing and so is Mr. Winston.

"I don't get what's so funny, you know" I state, clearly pissed at not being in on the joke. I mean seriously, a new student just got downstairs at superhuman speed and they're laughing if off like it's a regular thing.

Instead of explaining she extents her hand towards me and says "Hi, I'm Adira Williams. You must be confusing me with my sister...I'm late because I had to pick up a doctor's report"

"Wait, you guys are twins?"

"No, I'm her ghost" she states dryly whilst rolling her eyes.

After seeing the blank look on my face she laughs. "I was just kidding. Yes we are twins."

I chuckle slightly. I mean, what else was I supposed to do? She's cocky and confident, getting me confused a bit. She's more attractive than her sister though; with even wilder hair. I know, I know, you're thinking aren't they identical twins? How is that even possible you knuckle brain?

Well, I don't know but she does seem prettier to me. Her eyes are more intense, if that's even possible and for some reason, the uniform looks better on her. These twins are like model material!

If I can hit it off with both of them...

"Don't tell me you'll just leave my hand hanging there." she laughs

Shoot! I'd totally forgotten about the handshake. She definitely laughs a lot though. It's such a beautiful sound...like a wonderful symphony. Cliché, I know but I just can't help myself.

"Are you even still here?" she quirks her eyebrows at me.

Damn, I've definitely got to stop going into my little universe inside my head.

Grinning slyly and apologizing, I shake her hand. "Sorry, I just got carried away. Would you like to tag along? We're having English upstairs"

"Sure. That would be great." She says. " Thanks for offering."

"Oh, it's no biggie" I say off-handedly.

Together we head to class and everyone else is briefed on the whole twin issue since Adira has to introduce herself as a new student. She lets her hair down so we can tell them apart.

I hand in my work and class goes on as usual. When the bell goes, I help the twins find their next class before heading to mine. The classes roll by and soon its lunchtime.

The twins head over to our table and sit like they've been doing it their whole life. I catch Alex staring at Davina and secretly poke his side.

"What?" he demands glaring at me

"Oh, you know...It's nothing." I reply chuckling and waving my hand.

I notice that Adira's plate is crammed with animal products while Davina has just a plain old salad. Boy, they seem a lot different from each other

"Are you vegetarian?" I ask

"Yeah, got a problem with that stutter boy?" she replies, quirking her eyebrow at me

"No, not at all...it's just...I was just curious" Way to go Saga boy, I think whilst mentally face palming myself

Laughing now she says, "It's okay, I was just pulling your legs. Besides, you do know curiosity killed the cat right."

"Yeah, but satisfaction brought it back" I smirk

"Wait, Stutter boy?" asks a laughing Alex. "That's a story I want to hear."

"Oh, it's just my little nickname for pretty boy here since he decided against telling me his name." she smirks now. Alex snorts

"Oh so you think I'm pretty?" I smirk, running my hand through my hair. "Name's Jericho by the way, but just call me Ricky like everyone else does."

"No thanks. I think I'll call you stutter boy" she laughs

I let out a loud groan but can't hide the smile playing on my lips.

Attempting to shift the attention to the prettier twin I ask, "So, I hear you guys have another sister."

"Yeah we do. How'd you know? Have you been stalking us?" She narrows her eyes at me.

"No-

I was cut off by her singing "You'll never be alone"

"What? You guys don't listen to skillet?" she asks seeing the blank look on both the faces of my friends and I.

"Not everyone has the same taste as you sis." Replies Davina

"Oh well, you guys should check them out. They sing proper." she says without missing a beat.

"I'll try" says Alex winking at her. I stomp on his foot underneath the table and he lets out a loud yelp but tries to cover it up with a ravishing smile so no one notices

"You okay?" Asks Davina

"I am now, Davina" he says, smiling toothily.

Seriously, could he not ruin my reputation by making a fool out of himself? I don't want to be known as the guy with the weird friend to the twins. Besides, Alex and I aren't even into bands. My plan isn't going to work on these two so I'll try to be plain old me.

"Please, just call me Davi. Everyone at home does" Davina says.

"Sure." he replies

For the rest of lunch break, I try to look for definite differences between the twins but except for the fact that they have different lunches and wear their hair differently, I come up blank

Soon though, the bell for the next period goes and just like that, I hear nothing about the infamous third William girl.
