ALEC ARDEN

Appearance:

Alec has an oval face with prominent cheekbones and strong jaw line. His downturned eyes are icy blue. He stands at 6'3 feet and has a muscular and broad-shouldered frame. He developed it while hunting and performing the training drills his brother made for him. His skin tone is pale but not as fair as most people from Arktis Skyland. It is probably due to the fact that he spent more time under the sun instead of being indoors like most Arktins. His hands are calloused mainly from the bow stringing and knife throwing he does while hunting and training.

A faint scar can be found on his chin, and another one on the edge of his right brow. He got them from the children who bullied him when they threw rocks at him at the age of ten. Six long scars also ran across his back; three on each side and cross over each other. However, he has no memories of how he acquired them, and it didn't help that his brother refused to talk about it.

Background:

There's not much on Alec's background. He was born on Aurion 22, 500ARR (After Royal Reign) and grew up in Arktis Skyland. He and his brother, Alen, lived in the country of Desro in said Skyland before they moved to Icefall City located in the country of Freon when he was merely three years old (Alec doesn't know this...yet). Eventually, they ended up in Gelun. In his papers, all that is shown is his name, his birth date, address, and his connection with his brother.

He grew up mostly surrounded by trees and a vast expanse of snow. His only companion was Alen and his weapons. They rarely went into Gelun, but always traveled all over the country; mostly in Northern Freon where Icefall City is located.

When he was around 6-10 years old he was always the target of bullies. Often times, he wanted to fight back since he was capable of doing it. However, Alen had successfully disciplined him in using his ability only for protecting himself and not to hurt others. Aside from his brother's arms, the forest was his place of refuge whenever he was bullied.

Alen died when Alec was only 10 because of an epidemic called the Raze Boils. Alec was one of the very few people immune to the said disease which killed off half of Gelun's population. Ever since then, he was forced to live alone since no one wanted to take the responsibility of caring for him. Also since then, the townspeople never hid their contempt for him and the deceased Alen, because they blamed the brothers for bringing in the Raze Boils to their beloved town and buying half of the land which served as their source of livelihood.

At 12, Alec became the youngest hunter in Gelun to make a living. He is an exceptional marksman, which is why the older hunters decided to regard him as competition. Most of the game Alec caught would be stolen from him overnight. Oftentimes he was left with only a rabbit carcass or nothing at all. Once he couldn't stand it, he decided to set up hidden traps around his catch. Eventually, the other hunters started leaving him alone.

When he was 10-13 years old and the townspeople talked ill of his brother, he would lose his temper and have his blackouts. He wouldn't remember anything but he was always told that he either tried to injure someone or kill people (Although the latter rarely happened). He always ended up in jail with a few bruises and sometimes a broken bone or two. However, due to Arktin Law about minors, he was always released after a few days. He managed to control himself after taking his brother's teachings to heart. By the age of 16, his blackouts rarely came and he stopped getting thrown behind bars.

Personality:

Alec is known by the townspeople of Gelun as cold and guarded. He seldom smiled. He maintained his stone façade as a warning to the townspeople that he didn't want to be bothered by any of them.

Alen was twelve years older than him, and since he was Alec's only companion, Alec tended to act more mature than what was expected of someone his age. It became one of the reasons why it was hard for him to befriend his peers.

When he was five, Alec stumbled upon a den of snow cats. The beasts were very territorial and they chased Alec through Gelun forest until he was saved by his brother. Alen gave the creatures a long hard look and they dropped their ears and ran away with their tails between their legs. Up to this time, it still baffled Alec why the beasts were so scared of his brother; all animals were afraid of Alen in fact. Ever since then, Alec has been afraid of all cats, even domesticated ones no matter what their size.

Alec is able to adapt to his surroundings like how Alen taught him to. So despite having slightly terrible people skills, he was able to make acquaintances and even friends when he entered Draeyer Academy. He usually uses his acquired knowledge and draws conclusions from the situations he has read in books to apply it in a certain circumstance he never experienced before. An example is how he dealt with the Draes in the sanctuary for the first time. He read of stories before where all Draes were friendly to the protagonists and all he did was copy the actions of the characters. (Lame example, I know)

He has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge (he got it from his brother) which explains the number of books in his home and the number of ones he reads.

When it comes to his face and body, Alec is not very confident. A mere compliment about his looks causes him to go flush and avoid eye contact with the person who gave the wonderful comment. (Ex: his encounter with the twins' mother) He probably won't ever grow used to it, but he will eventually learn to hide his reaction.

Alec is truly passionate about the very few people and things that he loves. An example is his utmost adoration and love for his brother that up to the current timeline of the story hasn't diminished at all. Another example is his will to protect his triplet Draelings and the extent he has gone to catch Crimson's killer. The funniest example would be his SLIGHT addiction to strawberries (note sarcasm). He will go through such lengths to protect the ones he loves, even to sacrifice his safety for them.

Skills and Power:

Alec is a Sentire with the ability to establish Draeyer-like connections with Draes. This type of power is actually called Drae Whispering (Go ahead and laugh). If Alec wills it, he will be able to ride any Drae he wants without worrying about getting thrown off or bitten. He can also order (well Alec would ask) them to fight for him. He has them at his beck and call. But Alec is really soft towards them for him put them in danger for his sake.

The Flame he acquired from his triplet Draelings has the property of ice, hence the snowflake on top of the fire on the circle of the Draeyer Mark on his palm. The Flame is able to freeze plants, animals and objects from the inside out. To humans, it only manages to encase them in solid ice, like what happened to Areisha's fist when they got too physical with each other and ended with them becoming an Admix.

He is adept in using the bow and arrow and knives. He prefers close-combat range though even though he's capable of fighting in all distances. Ever since he was five his brother had already trained him in the arts of martial arts. The training was harsh, but being so young he didn't know exactly how harsh. He just took what Alen gave him. However, his brother always made sure that he was alright and made him rest when he was tired. He also made sure to give Alec his utmost attention whenever he was injured and never stopped peppering his face with kisses and apologies.

Alec is also used to simple chores like, cleaning, doing the laundry, and washing the dishes. He enjoys cooking delicious meals, especially if he has people to share his cooking with. Unlike with his appearance, Alec is confident of his culinary skills.

Relationships:

With Alen:

Alec had an extremely close relationship with his brother. He saw him as his mother, father, playmate, best friend, teacher, and brother. He sang him songs and read him stories as he grew up and it was one of Alec's fondest memories. Alec's favorite memory was when Alen first taught him how to throw knives (his first weapon ever). It was on that day he decided that he will train hard in order to keep seeing his brother's proud look directed at him. His world pretty much revolved between the two of them and it shattered when Alen died.

With Gael and Kreis:

His relationship with the two men is one of brotherhood. Although it was never spoken out loud, there was a silent truth between them that that's what they are, with Alec being the youngest brother (much to his dismay). The two are overly protective of him. Due to this, Alec thinks that they see him as a weak person and it angers him sometimes. What he doesn't know is that the pair already acknowledges his capabilities, and refuses for him to use it to avoid causing too much trouble for himself. Despite being more attached to Gael, Alec tends to tell his problems to Kreis instead using his commu-crima whenever the Head Ryder isn't close by. On the other hand, Gael tends to sense Alec's problems without the young man telling him.

With Solana:

His annoying best friend. His annoying little sister. He just can't get rid of the word "annoying." However, he cares for her greatly. In all honesty, Alec disliked Solana's arrogance about her looks. But when he learned that she was quite humble except in that department, his dislike slowly diminished. It surprised him how she was able jump over his walls and talk to him like he was good long-time friend. Eventually, he allowed her in and she became his second friend (Crimson will always be the first!). However, there are still some things that he can't tell her.

With Areisha:

Complicated. That's the best word that could be used to describe their connection. Sometimes their friends, sometimes enemies, and sometimes total strangers. However, when Areisha finally learned of Alec's situation, she acted a bit differently (kinder) when they were alone. She is the only one that Alec allows to pry with his thoughts about Beuen and other things, even though sometimes she asks so rudely that it makes him want to squash her already small self. Like with Solana, he enjoys watching her annoyed and angered face especially if it was him who caused the reaction. The two of them are an Admix and they have never been defeated in tag-team matches Gravis made them participate in. Those matches included a pair from each of the years from second to the fifth who topped in their Combat Mastery class.

With Knox:

Among the four male Sentires, Alec is closest with Knox. In the weekend afternoons, Alec and Knox's pass time is practice with their bow and arrows. With his Sentiral Ability, Knox would always win when it comes to hitting the targets, but Alec would always be only one point behind him. When it's completely sealed, Alec manages to win 2-3 out of 5 times. Together, they take care of Solana and scare away any unworthy suitors that try to go near her. The ones that get through them are always scared off by Solana herself.

With Ceiver:

At first, Ceiver shied away from Alec. However, the moment the boy realized that Alec didn't mind his speech problem they got along well. They both enjoy cooking and sometimes make amazing meals together for their dorm mates. There are times when Ceiver would be bullied or insulted, Alec would step in and help him. Alec only has to glare at them and they leave. They are perfectly aware of what Alec is capable of doing.

With River:

There is nothing much to talk about with Alec's relationship with River. Most of the time they are cold towards one another, and sometimes they act like the other doesn't exist. There are rare occasions that they would talk, and it would only be about school. However, they are friends―in a complicated way.

With Rei: (TBH, I'm going to enjoy writing scenes of them together)

Homosexuality is a taboo topic in Kosmiks. Unlike most males in Draeyer Academy, Alec is one among those who do not avoid getting involved with Rei (for those who still do not know, yes, he's gay). Rei tends to act mischievously around Alec and annoys him by helping the girls, who have a crush on Alec, get close to the blue-eyed young man. Rei has stood by in the shadows many times, watching as Alec "unblinkingly reject" (Quoted from Rei) the feelings of their female schoolmates. On the other hand, Alec would roll his eyes at the redhead and shake his head at his peskiness. Rei sees Alec as a friend and NOT as a potential lover like what most of the female students in D. Academy are afraid of.

With his Draelings:

Alec will often be seen with his Draelings. The common position would be this; Alec walking with Entiny on one shoulder with Leyan and Midnight crawling on either side of him. They refuse to leave his side and would grow hostile to people whenever he wasn't around.

He tends to act like a father to the triplets. Whenever Gael and Kreis would give the Draelings too much treats he would quickly react and say that they were spoiling them, to which the two men would laugh at. He plays with them as well; tag being their favorite game. He takes their health conditions seriously. With Entiny being weaker than her brothers, Alec always makes sure that he doesn't tire her (which explains the shoulder rides). Every night, Alec would sing them lullabies and Solana would hear him as well (which help her fall asleep too).

He loved them the moment he set his eyes on the three of them. Their strong bond allows Alec to use his Flame as an extension of his body by using martial arts as his release form.
