"The circus is the only fun you can buy that is good for you," he said grimly setting down his whiskey.

"So dramatic!" said Gertrude rolling her eyes.

"The seaside?" asked Hadley.

"It's free!" said Ernest scowling.

"Not the beach balls," said Hadley, hurt.

"A bicycle?" asked Alice. 

"Blah."

"Or a good play?" added Gertrude, "you buy tickets for those as well. Some are quite entertaining."

"You don't buy the whole damn opera house," said Ernest, slurring his words.

"Or the whole circus," said Gertrude chuckling. "Even if you could, where would you put the elephants?"

"You're all against me."
