Ashes, Ashes. You'll All Fall Down.
Dr. Park let the boys hug each other and cry for a moment over the fact that two of their brothers were no longer there with them.
"Now I hate to interrupt this moment, however it is time you all got started on cooking breakfast. A distraction will help take your mind off things for a bit." The doctor made his way to the door, gesturing for the boys to follow, but none of them moved from their spots.
Jin lifted his tear drenched face to the doctor as he held his arms around his three younger brothers. He looked at the doctor with desperation. "Please, sir, can we go see them? Could we take a trip to the hospital? I just-I mean all of us- would like to speak to them. To just know they're okay."
"I am sorry to inform you that at the current moment they are not accepting any visitors," Dr. Park replied sternly. He clenched his jaw, hoping the kids wouldn't pester him too much about it.
"Can we call them?" Jungkook begged. The building only had one phone, and nobody was sure where it even was, they just knew Dr. Park used it to call in food/supply truck orders and to make any other calls he needed to make.
Dr. Park stood there with his hands behind his back, digging his nails into his palms. "They are in no shape to take phone calls either. I promise to keep you updated with any information I can, but right now I have told you everything I know. Now, come along, children. No point in dwelling." With that, the doctor turned back around and stood there silently while he waited for the boys to begin walking behind him. Once they started moving, he led the way back down to the kitchen for them to get started on breakfast.
Nobody felt like eating, or even cooking for that matter. Jungkook sat at the table with his head down, quietly crying while the others labored around in the kitchen with the least bit of interest. They all tried to tell Dr. Park that it would be wasted food, but he insisted that the work will help keep their mind off things.
Jin was constantly distracted by Dr. Park's nonchalant demeanor as the man watched them work around the kitchen. It angered the boy deeply that this man, this adult, this so-called doctor, was so unbothered by all of the misfortunes happening to them during this stay at his hospital.
Jin couldn't take it anymore.
He took a plate he was holding and slammed it onto the kitchen floor, shattering the porcelain it was made out of. The sound echoed throughout the room and bounced off the walls. "I'm sick of this! I'm sick of this place!" His sudden outburst caught everyone by surprise. His brothers stared at him in shocked silence, even Jungkook got up from the table and ran over to see what was going on.
Without acknowledging his brother's confusion, he walked up to Dr. Park and got right in his face. "This is all bullshit! You are bullshit!"
Taehyung ran over and grabbed Jin's hand, tugging him backwards. "Hyung, enough."
Jin shrugged Taehyung off and continued to scream at Dr. Park, as the doctor stood there, arms folded, his expression unchanging.
"Yoongi was right about what he said before! You're of no fucking help! I mean seriously, can't you see we need help? Can't you see we're hurting?! I look at you and you know what I see? I see absolutely nothing! I see a guy who claims to be a doctor, yet all he does is offer little to no advice, and obviously doesn't care. Our brothers are hurt, we've been begging to go see them or at least simply call them, and you won't let us! And instead of offering console or advice on how to handle this, you know what you're doing? Forcing us to stand here and fucking cook! Well guess what? I'm done with your stupid theories or coping strategies or whatever the fuck you're even trying to do to us. I'm so fucking sick of-"
"Jin!" Taehyung screamed as he pulled his hyung back with more force this time. He attempted to wrap his arms around his older brother to hug him, but the elder didn't want a hug.
He wanted out.
Anger raged inside of him when he saw Dr. Park still show absolutely no emotion, not even the least bit of concern for his feelings or anything he just said. He knew, at this point, nothing else he had to say mattered. He couldn't believe he was thinking it, but part of him ever so slightly missed his father. At least our father cared. Cared enough to beat the shit out of me. Maybe that was better than nothing.
"Fuck this!" He screamed as he shoved Taehyung off of him and decided to storm his way out of the kitchen, and all the way outside of the building. Being inside those four walls was becoming way too suffocating. He couldn't help but notice the sudden dark energy that felt like it was looming above him and his brothers.
Jungkook, Hoseok, and Taehyung stood there not knowing what to do. Images of their father hurting them coursed through their heads. Especially when one of them acted up like Jin had just done.
Jungkook, anxious as all hell, took a few small steps sideways until he was hidden behind Hoseok. If Dr. Park can't see me, maybe he won't decide to hurt me like father does. He had no reason to think that Dr. Park would physically hurt any of them, as he had never done something like that, but that lack of trust still sat low in the boy's stomach. Especially realizing that Jin was right, Namjoon and Yoongi had been hurt and the doctor didn't seem to be that concerned.
Hoseok, now being the only big brother in the room, felt like it was his duty to clear the air. "P-please don't be angry with him, sir. He's just-he gets worried and scared too. P-please don't be angry. I'm sure he didn't mean what he s-said." There was clear anxiety in Hoseok's voice, as he too hoped that Jin wouldn't get in big trouble for his outburst.
Dr. Park put his hand up before Hoseok could say any more. He looked at the three boys, now huddled together before him, and smiled. "Very well, a little fresh air will do him good."
Taehyung raised an eyebrow out of curiosity. How the hell is he...not even angry?
Taehyung eyed Dr. Park, studying his body language. If he didn't know any better, he could have almost sworn that Dr. Park was giving the slightest smirk in the corner of his mouth.
"May we please go check on him?" Hoseok asked.
"Be my guest." Dr. Park gestured to the door leading out of the kitchen, indicating that they could go outside to check on Jin. The three of them immediately made a dash for outside and found Jin pacing the back parking lot along the fence line.
The three boys ran to their hyung, shouting his name and asking if he was okay. Jin was in a fit of tears, still going on and on about how he wanted to get the hell out of that place. He didn't even care if they ran away and lived in the woods. He couldn't shake the overwhelming feeling that something was seriously wrong about Dr. Park. He was becoming suspicious that the man had an entire separate agenda than what they were originally sent there for.
Dr. Park made his way to an empty room in his building, he stood near a window that overlooked where the boys were congregated outside while making sure to stay out of sight. But he eavesdropped, which wasn't hard to do considering all of the kids were yelling loudly at each other. Jin was still having a fit, spewing out how much he hated it there. He overheard Hoseok and Taehyung try to offer words of comfort, that maybe things will get better one day at a time but Jin insisted that every day is the hardest. "There is no healing here, only more pain," Jin had said.
Dr. Park scoffed at the statement. You don't even know pain yet, Jin. He delighted in hearing the boy's cries and sorrow. The doctor patted himself on the back. "You are one hell of a psychiatrist, Dr. Park." He started slowly dancing and skipping around the room he was in. Cracked concrete walls and dirt.
He started to sing to himself again. Another old children's tune. He sang it quietly to himself as he scanned the four boys together outside.
"Ashes, Ashes.
You'll
all
fall
down."
