Vampires
With so many different versions of vampires, from various myths, to shows, to books to movies, since that wasn't obviously enough, I've decided to cannon my own version with a mix of aspects from versions I've seen and my own ideas, because why not?
General overview and Types:
Vampires aren't pack creatures, but their families (nuclear families) are called a clan or council.
There are two types of vampires, both very essential to a family or council, and it's impossible to know which a newborn will turn out as until they open their eyes for the first time.
Hunters: Faster than Counselors, with supersonic speed and Infra-Red vision.
Councelors: Slower but they have the ability of Hypnotism and occassionally high frequency sonic cries.
Physical:
Yes, Vampires still have their fangs, that's what makes them them afterall. No, they are not shiny disco balls heck no. But anyways
1) Eye colour depicts status
Silver: Counselors
Gold: Young, innocent, have yet to draw blood
Crimson: Blood Drinker (surprise surprise)
Deep Blue: Hunter Type
"But Night," you ask, "if there are only two types of vampires, and each has an eye color, what's the point of the crimson and gold one?"
Explanation:
My vampires don't go around flaunting their eye colour and species everywhere, no. Gray and Blue (Depending on type they are) are their natural and dominant eye colours, while their eyes only turn gold or crimson when they show their fangs
(Anyone who's seen Teen Wolf knows what I mean with the werewolves)
2) The vein IS Blue
What more do I need to say? The blood in their veins is actually blue, so take that adults who shatter little kids' hopes for blue blood. There are those uncommon weirdos who do get red blood, and no one really understands why yet.
Nutrition
Vampires are originally the apex Predators that were technically designed to hunt humans (Law of Nature). They can eat human food, but like, there's not enough nutrition adapted for their bodies.
1) Classics: Human Blood. Whether fresh kill or stealing blood sacks from hospitals. More often only do it enough to survive and not go on a killing spree. I swear they're nice.
2) Vegetarians: Humans are Friends, not food. These guys prefer animal blood/meat. They're pretty uncommon surprisingly.
3) Vegans: Turns out, Wine is a very good substitute (although expensive) for Blood when you're in a pickle. Some just get addicted to it and start drinking this only (not the best idea but ehh...)
Blood Type = Taste
A = Salty
B= Sour
AB = Sweet or Bitter
O= Spicy
Habitat
No. No living in scary castles with ominous dark clouds in the background. Not anymore anyways, its 2019 not the middle ages.
Some prefer their solitude and live in the mountainside.
Most live in large Cities, and currently
New York, London, and San Francisco hold the most number of Vampires, with Montreal and Dubai not far behind
Lifespan
No, they don't live forever. 800-1000 years on average.
Best way to tell a vampire's age by their looks is to add a 0. Aka:
1 vampire year = 10 human years
Reproduction and Relations
1) Reproduction: Often around 1-2 kids per pregnancy, and usually no more than 3 kids per family. 4 is rare but possible, some adopt, and single children are very very common.
Interspecies reproduction?
Impossible to naturally reproduce with any other species.
The only hybrids possible are half-human and they're 50% viable, and 100% Sterile, scientifically speaking.
Turning?
Okay, there are far less Vampires than werewolves and humans and almost all other things (except like unicorns) because they don't reproduce much and they also don't turn humans vampire. Whether it's a question of possibility or its complicated, that remains undecided. Most likely one can only turn into a half-vampire.
2)Relations (Significant myths):
Humans: As long as you don't scare each other, why couldn't you be friends? Sure, why not. Of course there is the occasional crazy hunter human and the psycho vamp on a killing spree, but what's new?
Werewolves: It's not that they hate eachother precisely. They're just eachother's kryptonite. A deep scratch from a werewolf can make a vampire lose their abilities or even die. A bite from a vampire can either kill or make the werewolf unable to ever turn back human and/or wolf.
Traits
1) Weaknesses:
- Their sense of smell is probably the worst. They can only smell one single thing, and that's someone's blood type up close.
-Werewolves (See above)
-They don't die with the sun, no, but they are completely blind during the day, or rather whenever its sunny because the organisms in their eyes can't capt that much light.
2) Common Strengths/Abilities:
(Whether Hunter or Councelor)
-Amazing sense of Hearing. In fact, echolocation is everything to them. During the night, they can send out levels of frequency only bats can hear. During the day, dont be surprised if your currently blind vampire friend becomes louder and more talktative
-During the night, their eyesight is eagle-like (but even better)
-Their blood has healing properties, for them and even for other species, assuming their blood are compatible.
3) Quirks
- Each Vampire has a favourite blood type (A, B, etc) that depends on the compatibility with their own blood types.
Example, if a vampire is an A+ and their prey is an A-, since that's something that can be transfused, they would enjoy the taste better.
- Vampires actually do enjoy sleep, even if they don't necessarily need it
-Not always only active during the night
-Some vampires are become nurses or even doctors for various reasons
Q & A
Feel free to ask anything about this
What the heck is a half-vampire?
Simple, half human, half vampire. Their eye colours don't become blue or gray as they keep their natural eye color, but can turn gold or crimson. Heightened reflexes, a bit faster, can eat both human food and blood. Lifespan about 400 years if they survive. However, they have all the weaknesses of vampires, + they don't have as strong healing abilities, nor hypnotism or Sonic cries. They have 50% chance of survival and are also completely sterile.
Either the result of reproduction between a human and a vampire, or a human being turned (rare).
This is really fun to do and an idea of mine. Should I do more of my interpretation of species? If so, which ones? Please because I love making my own headcannons on stuff like these
And of course, before you ask, I do have Ocs for these, why wouldn't I?
