Lab Break in
(Infinite's P.O.V.)
After some collaborating and fine-tuning, we created the perfect plan against the Phantom Ruby. My new plan used (Y/N) as a decoy to lure him away from the battlefield, which she agreed to. We gathered some info from some passing soldiers and learned that they were heading back to Metropolis for another attack. Likely the Phantom Ruby would be there posing as me. But before we head out onto the battlefield we're making a stop in Mystic Jungle. I swore I'd never go back to that lab but, desperate times call for change. Currently, (Y/N) is trying to pick a new weapon from my stockpile. She's having trouble deciding. "I'm no good with knives and swords. You don't have any guns lying around do you?" "I'm afraid the only weapons I have are the ones you see here. If you need a crash course in swordplay just ask. I'm the best swordsman you'll ever meet." She folds her hands in a pleading motion as she silently looks at me with big (E/C) orbs. I sigh, "Alright... Pick a sword and I'll give you a quick lesson. We'll use that training dummy over there." She looks back at the rack of weapons before grabbing a (F/C) rapier. Interesting choice. She stands in front of the dummy and immediately she's got it all wrong. The way she's holding the sword, the way she's standing, it's all wrong. If she tries to swing her sword like that, not only will she completely miss the target but she'll leave herself wide open for the enemy. "First of all, one hand not two. If it was a katana, the way you're holding it would be fine, but that is not a katana. It was made to be lightweight so it could be held in one hand. Also, you need to widen your stance a little. Your feet are too close together." I move close to her as I help her adjust her stance. "I'm surprised you don't know anything about swordplay. During the first test you created a cutlass to cut down your inner demons." "That was just luck. I was just swinging blindly hoping it would work." Once again I have to adjust her stance because she shifted. "A rapier is better for thrusts than it is for slashing. I want you to try attacking the dummy and I'll see where we need to adjust." She tries to thrust her sword at the dummy and stumbles. I grab her before she gets cut by her own blade. "Maybe we should try something else. Clearly, swordplay is not your cup of tea."
(Reader's P.O.V.)
A few hours passed after the sword fiasco. Infinite ended up taking the rapier from me and used it to intimidate a soldier outside. He came back with a (F/W) Wispon, fully charged and ready for battle. I feel bad for the soldier he frightened but I'm glad to have a weapon I can handle. We wait for nightfall before we leave the safety of the safe house. We made our way to the old lab in Mystic Jungle. I remember this place. This was where I met that two-tailed fox. I think his name was Tails. There was a version of him in the Phantom Ruby's illusion dream. I wonder what made the Phantom Ruby cook up such a ridiculous dream in the first place. I know he said it was to shelter me from the world but I can't help but feel there was more to it than that. "You plan on standing there gawking or are you going to come in?" I snap to my senses and remember we're on a mission to get Infinite's sword. I can worry about the Phantom Ruby some other time. We enter the dark lab. Infinite seems to be doing fine but me on the other hand... I'm having a little trouble seeing where I'm going. Silently, Infinite grabs my hand. I finch a little at the unexpected contact. "My mask has night vision so I have no problem seeing in here. You on the other hand might have some trouble so I thought I'd guide you through here." He sounded a little embarrassed as he spoke, adjusting his mask again. He seems to have a habit of doing that. We enter another room and Infinite stops me at the door. "Wait here. I need someone to cover my six if trouble shows up."
(Infinite's P.O.V.)
I told her to wait at the door and keep a look out but the truth was I didn't want to get her involved in this. "I knew you would come here, Zero. I was so sure of it I even waited for you." My doppelganger laughs. In his hands is the item I was searching for. The weapon that was an extension of my soul, was being pointed in my direction. "I bet you weren't expecting this, were you? Your own blade... Pointed at your throat. How fitting. The last remnant of your old, weak, self aimed at ending your sad, pathetic, existence. I told you... Resistance is futile. Sooner or later, you'll be crushed like the rest of the ants." He laughs again as he raises the blade. "But don't worry... I'll be sure to take your place in protecting the jewel. She won't even know you're gone." He swiftly lowers the blade and I have just enough time to block the blow with the rapier. I struggle to push him back as a new player enters the battle. Charging straight into my copy was the (H/C) furred (C/T) I told to wait outside. She managed to knock my sword out of his hands and points her wispon at him. "Jewel! What a pleasant surprise this is. I never expected you to be here. What are you doing protecting this weakling?" She grits her teeth and glares at him. I can practically feel the anger radiating off her. I take this distraction and grab my sword and slash at my copy. It fizzles away and I realize he was never actually here. Just a clone of him. A fake. I place a hand on (Y/N)'s shoulder and she starts to relax. "S-Sorry... I didn't mean to leave my post, but you sounded like you were in trouble." "You did fine. I told you to watch my six so technically you did your job. Let's head back to home base and prepare ourselves for the fight in Metropolis. Something tells me he's planning on pulling out all the stops in this fight."
