Chapter 12

The crepuscular sight looming over the windowsills and the barely-there hush of the impending daybreak greeted Yoongi awake. Consciousness slipping in, his half-lidded eyes glossed over the other side of the bed, only to find not just an empty mattress, but a neatly arranged bedspace next to him.

A muffled sound left his mouth as he shuffled on the bed, begrudgingly forcing himself up. A lazy expression covered his facade as he dragged his feet towards the bathroom.

However, she also wasn't there.

As Yoongi exited the room, nothing but the same silence greeted him. Not even a faint sound of breathing or a sign of life could be found within the hotel suite.

He recalled asking Jiwon if they were in danger hours earlier. Although he could assure he was consciously awake when it had happened, his mind shortly played tricks with him, confusing his listless self.

Scratching his neck, he trudged back into the room, and grabbed a coat and his phone before hastily leaving the suite. The lack of a mere note or a message only made him wonder where she could be at this early in the morning.

Min Yoongi might or might not exactly know where he was heading to, or what exactly he was doing at the moment. But he was aware he had to look for wherever she might be at this hour.

The last thing he wanted to hear was that Jiwon had gotten into another reckless situation — at least not one close to her being kidnapped or anything that involved danger.

Blinking himself awake whilst he entered the elevator, he fished his phone from the pocket of his coat and dialed her. First ring... second ring... third ring...

The ringing only continued until the line was cut-off and the lift halted at his floor destination. Yoongi thumbed in on his phone again as he mindlessly stepped out and repeated the call, heading for the reception desk in the middle of the grandeur of the lobby.

Yoongi shifted his attention from his phone to the receptionist.

"Have you seen someone with medium-length brown hair leave earlier?" he asked. "She has a petite body, and more or less at this height." He lifted his hand to his side, just an inch below his eye level.

The receptionist had a hard look on her face, as if she were trying to dig into the clutter of her mind. Yoongi didn't expect she'd be able to tell him, knowing that she probably had to deal with a lot of people to remember, but it was always better to start somewhere.

Yoongi went through his phone, searching for a photo or anything that could identify her. At the same time, he made a mental note that he should probably have one with him every time, just in case she had this habit of disappearing out of nowhere — Something he had yet to prove.

But the receptionist caught his attention when she thoughtfully said, "Oh! I'm not sure if she's who you're looking for, but there was a lady earlier who asked about a garden."

Only two possibilities existed at this point: either the lady was Jiwon or it was not. And Yoongi wouldn't exactly know why she'd be up so early just to inquire of a garden within the hotel's perimeter, yet his instincts coaxed him to take the shot of believing he'd find her this way.

So after getting directions from the receptionist, he wasted no time to resume his agenda. Each step a push of urgency to find her, and a pull of letting her be, so he could go back and sleep.

An employee held the glass door open, leading Yoongi to the garden. He paused on his tracks.

Ahead of him was a majestic view, clothed in tranquility under a soft palette of blue, purple and pink, and an approaching orange at the horizon.

So much for the stunning visual right in front of his eyes, this simple thought still managed to intrude his mind: It would have been better if I were still in bed.

Yoongi followed the path, his squinted eyes wandered in search for a certain lady. His instincts grew adamant that he'd find her here.

And eventually, he did.

Steps away from him, just where the cemented path ended, Jiwon sat in a crouched position, an innocent smile dangling on her lips like that of a child watching over her flower.

He had probably stared longer than he should have that Jiwon sensed his gaze behind her.

Rather than being bemused at his presence, Jiwon waved at him with much enthusiasm, as if she knew he'd be here. She stood up, shuffled on her feet and dusted her pants with her left hand, the other hand occupied with a flower.

This sight alone was enough for Yoongi's feet to move on their own and approach her. This was the first time he had seen her like this — looking genuinely happy. Her oversized, pale pink sweater and plain jeans added a sense of comfort to her overall aura.

"Their flower garden is really something," Jiwon breathed out as soon as Yoongi was by her side. "They even have an area specially for sunflowers, and the lady taking care of the flowers gave this to me." She extended her arm to show him the sunflower.

"Do you realize how early it is?" A subtle frown formed on Yoongi's face.

"I thought you'd say that." She chuckled, staring down at the flower. "I wanted to watch the sunrise. The lady told me the view is great by the fountain." She pointed at the staircase, leading to a higher terrain.

"I'm starting to think you were a sunflower in your past life." Yoongi's voice didn't hold any bite to it, but the smile on Jiwon's lips stretched further, nevertheless.

"Were you looking for me?" she finally asked.

"You didn't leave a note or anything," he said, and Jiwon bobbed her head thoughtfully.

"So... you were worried?"

Yoongi threw her a bored look, eyes going back and forth between Jiwon and the sunflower between them. She didn't know how to interpret his gesture, but she preferred to assume that he did worry.

Because knowing him, he wouldn't just admit it openly. And if he didn't actually worry, he should have been laughing.

"You can head back now," Jiwon told him, voice as calm as a lullaby. "I'll follow back inside in a while."

When Yoongi hadn't spoken, Jiwon gave him a knowing look before she turned on her heel and started to head for the staircase, only to be halted when Yoongi gently held her arm.

"No," he mumbled, and she raised her brows in question.

No, as in no he wasn't allowing me to stay? A twist in her gut froze her in place. The word alone made Jiwon's chest empty.

Yet that same emptiness was filled when Yoongi spoke up again and let go of her arm.

"Let's just watch the sunrise together."

She snapped her head up, blinking at him owlishly. Slowly, the curve on Jiwon's lips returned, and she nodded firmly, releasing a breath of content.

The two of them walked side by side in a comfortable silence, unhurried steps falling in sync.

"Hey, Yoongi," Jiwon began. "Can we make a deal?"

"What of?"

"About acting civil with each other."

Jiwon halted on her feet whilst Yoongi took another forward. He turned around to face her, not exactly catching her point.

Jiwon took a step closer to him, holding the sunflower's stem with both of her hands.

"Arguing with you is really tiring, I can't keep up all the time." There was no undertones in her voice. Instead, it was soft and calm. "Although I'm pretty sure it's kind of natural for you."

He sneered, "Were you just insulting me right now?"

"You're not mad though," Jiwon teased and took a step back. "So? Is that a yes, or...?" Her questioning gaze had a hint of mischief. "I mean that must be a yes, not unless you want me to show the world that Min Yoongi actually sleeps in a Kumamon pajama."

Jiwon pulled out her phone from her pocket and purposely appeared to be in search for something on the device.

Her words finally sunk in, and Yoongi extended his arm to snatch the phone from her grip, but failed when she sprinted forward.

"Last one to the top pays for breakfast!"

"Y-Yah!" yelled Yoongi. "Kim Jiwon, watch your step! Don't be such a child."

Jiwon momentarily paused and whipped her head to his direction. She stuck her tongue out and laughed.

Yoongi shook his head in disbelief. He could buy a whole restaurant for all he cared, but this girl — who could probably do the same — just had to challenge him for a run over who was going to pay for breakfast.

Although this seemed crazy, his foot took a step on its own, and a second later, he was catching up to her. Carefree laughter escaping their lips; silly smiles never leaving their faces.

When Yoongi finally caught up to Jiwon, he reached for her. The two of them ran hand in hand, like the little child in their hearts they thought had long been gone.
