Part 20
Mark let go of Jack's hand to pat his leg comfortingly, before climbing out of the car. Mark honestly didn't know what his mother would think about all this. He just knew that his mother had a good heart and right now, Jack needed someone who could understand even a little of what he was going through. Jack took a longer time to get out of the car, looking more reluctant to go by the second. While Chica on the other hand, couldn't wait to get out and see Momiplier. Chica leapt out of the car, racing straight up the steps to his mother, who crouched to pet her excitedly. Mark imagined that if he had kids that she'd greet them just the same. For the last few years though, Chica had filled that spot. Being more like a furry four-legged child than a dog. His mother, looked up from Chica, asking them curiously. "Well, come on. We've got a lot to talk about".
His mom climbed to her feet, leading an excited Chica into the house. Mark started to walk, but stopped to glance at Jack. Jack still stood beside the car, looking like he was ready to run. To comfort him, Mark extended a hand for him to take, saying softly. "Just let me do the talking. You'll be fine". Jack sighed heavily, walking past him. When Jack didn't take his hand, Mark simply placed his hand on Jack's back. Mark didn't blame him. He had never brought anyone home to meet his mother. It would be a tense moment for all of them. Walking into the house, Mark lead Jack to the couch. He hoped by getting Jack off his feet it would help him relax a bit. His mother gave Chica a treat from the kitchen, before joining them in the living room. She sat on the opposite side of the couch, asking them a bit awkwardly. "So... Shall we start from the beginning? I didn't even know you were dating someone".
Jack shifted uncomfortably, looking anywhere but at Mark's mother. Mark scooted closer to the edge of the couch seat, taking a deep breath, then telling her honestly. "Well... It just kind happened. You knew we were friends". His mother nodded, replying quietly. "I did. How long have you two been... more than friends"? Mark could see the blush burning Jack's cheeks and he kept fidgeting anxiously. Reaching out, Mark laid a hand over Jack's shaking hands, answering casually. "About a year or two now. We were trying to take things... slow". His mom shot him a smirk, petting Chica's head as she coyly, asked him. "And getting him knocked up..."? Mark grinned, quickly retorting. "Wasn't the plan. That was an... accident". His mother chuckled, telling a nervous Jack playfully. "I know the feeling. 'HE' was an unplanned accident. Did you know that"?
Mark rolled his eyes. He had heard this story a lot growing up. His brother was planned... but he had been an accident that made it past all forms of birth control. It made Mark feel good though that Jack actually smiled. He really wanted them to get along. His mother chuckled softly to herself, then asked Mark curiously. "So, do you mind telling me how exactly this happened? You can skip the part on how you knocked him up... but 'how' did you knock him up"? Jack turned narrowed eyes on Mark, smugly stating out. "Ya, Mark. Tell her how you managed that". Mark shot narrowed eyes back on Jack, before looking back at his mother to reluctantly say. "I'll spare you some of the details and just say that... We were attending a charity that was for women who were having trouble getting pregnant... There was this drink that got confused with another... and... Well... He's pregnant".
His mother sat thinking for a moment, talking aloud softly. "In all my years as a nurse, I've heard some strange things... but I've never seen it go this far". Jack's leg started to jiggle. Mark knew he only did that if he was getting really tense. Moving his hand from Jack's hands to rest on Jack's knee, he told his mother calmly. "We had an ultrasound down to confirm it. They are just as stumped by it as we are. Although, they do agree that he is pregnant". His mom came back from her thoughts, smiling as she told him. "Well, I asked for a grandchild and I got one. You'll have a story to tell the baby, when it gets older". Jack shakily raised his hand to show her two fingers without looking at her. His mother didn't get the gesture at first, then her eyes lit up and she gasped out. "Two?! I'm going to have two grandbabies"?!
Jack slightly nodded, while Mark chuckled out. "Ya. Caught us by surprise too". His mother scooted closer to the edge of her seat, excitedly starting to say. "OH! That is great! But... wait...". Her smile faded a bit as a thought seemed to come to her. She almost seemed reluctant to ask, but when she did, her voice was less excited and more worried. "What have you two decided to do? Are you keeping them? If you have them... Will you two still be... together"? Mark squeezed Jack's knee comfortingly as he told her. "Of course, we are still going to be together. As for the babies... Well...". Mark drifted off, turning his eyes toward Jack. He couldn't answer what he didn't know. They had been trying to find a way to get rid of them... but did they still want that? Jack was always avoiding the subject lately. They never really talked about it. His mother looked so happy over the news. He hated to break her heart... but what did Jack want?
Jack didn't meet any of their eyes. He just stared at the carpet as the room fell into silence. After a long moment, his mother reached out to touch Jack's other knee. When Jack finally met her eyes, she told him in a honey sweet voice. "I know that look. I was terrified my first time too. It's even worse when your hormones are all over the place. It's normal to feel that way". Mark bit his lower lip as Jack straightened up to lightly snap back. "This isn't normal for me. This shouldn't be happening to me. This could kill me! You do realize that I can't just give birth to them? They will have to be CUT from me! My greatest fear is being stabbed! And the thought of being cut open... I don't even want to think about it! I just... I-". Jack glanced from Mark's mom to Mark, then bolted up from the couch, mumbling out breathlessly. "I can't do this right now".
Jack rushed for the door and Mark tried to grab him, but his mom raised a hand to gesture for him to let him go. When the front door slammed shut, Mark felt awful. He knew Jack was scared... but why didn't Jack just tell him all this. Why was he trying to keep all this to himself? His mom slowly stood up, placing a hand on Mark's shoulder. Climbing to his feet, Mark told his mom apologetically. "I'm sorry, Mom. He didn't mean it... He's just-". His mom rubbed her hand down along his arm, interrupting him with a tender understanding voice as she said. "I know. Let me try talking to him. Just wait here". Mark shook his head reluctantly. He knew how emotionally unstable Jack was becoming. He didn't want his mom to be hurt over something that Jack didn't mean to say.
His mom patted his cheek then, telling him in her strong motherly voice. "Mark, stay here. I've gone through this before. He just needs someone to listen". Mark straightened up a little offended as he snapped back. "Hey! I listen to him! He just won't talk to me"! She raised her hand to stop him from talking, before tenderly telling him in her soft calming voice. "Mark... He doesn't want to talk to you, because he doesn't want to hurt you. Trust me. I was the same way with your father. He needs to vent out things to clear his head. Things that he doesn't mean, but can hurt you beyond repair. He doesn't want that, but he's scared. Let me try to help him. Stay here with the dogs. I'll be back".
Mark sighed, watching his mom walk out the front door. Discreetly moving to the window, he inched the curtain back to see Jack sitting on the curb with his arms wrapped around his raised knees. The thought that Jack was trying to fight this battle alone was tormenting him. Hurtful words or not... Couldn't Jack just tell him what was on his mind? He was sure that he could handle it if Jack would just open up to him. Instead, he felt like Jack was drifting away from him. He loved him so much, but did Jack think their love was strong enough to survive this? He watched his mom inch closer to Jack, taking a seat down beside him. They didn't appear to talk at all for a little while, but he couldn't really tell with their backs to him. He just hoped that his mom could get through to Jack in a way that he couldn't... but that he wished he could.
Unable to take the deafening silence and his own crushing thoughts. Mark made his way back to his old bedroom. He hadn't seen it in years and he wondered if his mom had kept it the same. She had... for the most part. There were boxes in his room now that weren't his. Was she slowly turning his room into a storage room? Smirking, he ran a hand over his old computer keyboard. He had so many memories in this room. Pulling out his chair, he decided to boot up his old computer and see if any of his old games were still downloaded to it. He just needed something to distract himself for awhile. He didn't know how long he had been playing a relaxing game of solitaire, when he glimpsed someone moving into his bedroom doorway. Lowering his headphones to his shoulders, he looked over at Jack with a small smile. Jack leaned against the door frame, his eyes looking a little red, but he smiled back at him with those soft baby blue eyes. To Be Continued...
