Chapter Four: Test
Izuku was at the beach training when his mother called him.
Izuku took his phone out of his pocket, letting Izutwo dissolve away.
"Hey mum. What's up?" He asked.
"The letter Izuku, the letter from UA, it's here!!" Inko said.
Izuku grinned to himself.
"Alright, I'll be home in half an hour, I just need to finish up my training." He replied.
Inko bid him goodbye, hanging up.
Izuku's heart began pounding in anticipation, but he took calming breaths to slow his heart rate, pushing the anxiety down for now.
The greenette raised his fist, charging it with One for All.
"Two weeks since the exam and I'm only at 17 percent.. that's 1 percent a week.. it'll take me just under two years to get to 100 percent at this rate. Granted, the training I'm doing now isn't overly strenuous, I've been keeping it low since the exam. Let's say two percent a week from now on, that'll be 100 percent in less than a year. Then I can improve from there, pushing the boundaries of 100 percent, cultivate the power with my second and third years.. but I need to use it more efficiently. I need to switch faster between where I need it. The zero pointer just needed to be swarmed and smacked, but that won't work for every situation. I need to practice with it.."
Izuku began muttering to himself, trying to figure out how to most efficiently use One for All.
Eventually he gave up, packing his things away and heading home.
Izuku opened the front door, wandered into the living room and took the letter from the table.
"I'll be in my room mum!" He called into the kitchen.
Izuku slumped at his desk, the letter sat before him.
What if he didn't make it? But he knew his score was absolutely ridiculous, how could he have possibly failed?
Eventually the nervous teen shook his head, grabbing the letter and tearing it open.
A small metal disk fell out, turning on and projecting a holographic screen above it.
"I am here!!" All Might said boldly.
"A-all Might??" Izuku gasped. "Isn't this from UA?"
"You may be wondering what I am doing here! Well, you are in fact looking at UA's newest faculty member!" The hero continued.
Izuku sighed in realization.
"So that's why you were in Musutafu so long.."
"Now, onto the part I'm sure you've been waiting for! Your exam results!" All Might boomed.
Izuku leaned forwards in expectation.
"On the written exam you scored an impressive 87 out of 100, well done! As for the practical exam..." All Might hesitated.
"Every single member of the faculty, I and principal Nezu himself included, were incredibly impressed by the display you showed during the practical exam. Your.. 'Deku Rumble' was incredibly impressive, and can most definitely be considered an ultimate move of professional hero level. You unleashed this move twice, in relatively quick succession, at the start to earn your points, and at the end to save a girl from the zero pointer. In total, you earned 482 villain points. Adding on the points earned from the hidden scoring system, dubbed the rescue points, you have a total of 557 points, a phenomenal feat. Of course, you have passed as the most promising student in the school's history. Welcome, to your hero academia."
Izuku leapt into the air as the hologram cut off, cheering to himself.
Another week of intense training, and Izuku was walking through UA's gates, this time as a student.
The greenette wandered through the halls, searching for the door to classroom 1A.
*That's a big door.. for accessibility?*
Izuku pushed the large door open surprisingly easily, sighing at the commotion within.
He ignored the yelling, trying to reach his desk.
"You there!"
Izuku looked up startled at the tall bespectacled boy.
"You were the boy that overran test site B! I must commend you for your excellent showing!" He said.
Izuku scratched the back of his head.
"A-ah, it wasn't that great, I mean-"
"Oh, it's you!" A voice said from behind him.
Izuku turned around and was met by the brunette from the entrance exam.
"You're the one who made the army! I never got to say thanks!" She said.
"T-thats alright! I just did what anyone would have done-!" He stammered.
They were interrupted by a flat voice coming from the doorway.
"If you're here to make friends then I suggest you leave."
Izuku looked behind the brunette, only spotting a yellow caterpillar laying on the floor.
The yellow blob rolled over, revealing a tired face. The caterpillar stood up, and unzipped itself from the face down, revealing a man clothed in a black jumpsuit and a grey scarf.
"I'm your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. Now, put these on and head outside."
Aizawa pulled out a hand full of PE uniforms from the sleeping bag, depositing them on his desk before walking back out of the classroom.
Izuku was the first to react, grabbing a uniform in his size and leaving the classroom, walking briskly down the corridor to the changing rooms.
Izuku was the first one to the field, other than their homeroom teacher. Aizawa cast an appraising eye over the greenette, while Izuku did the same.
He knew the teachers were all pro heroes. He just didn't recognise this one. Izuku knew he should recognise the hero, there were very few heroes he didn't know about, and they were either old heroes or new heroes in foreign countries.
The next student to arrive was Iida, followed by the tall black haired girl.
The rest of his classmates quickly arrived, standing around near Aizawa chatting to eachother.
Said teacher cleared his throat, gaining his student's attention.
"Today you'll be finding your quirk's limits. Midoriya, you scored highest on the entrance exam. How far could you throw a ball in middle school?" Aizawa asked.
"About 67 meters sir." He responded.
Aizawa tossed him a ball.
"Throw this as far as you can using your quirk. Anything goes, just don't leave the circle."
Izuku nodded, stepping into the circle and reeling his arm back, charging it with One for All.
*17 percent Smash!!*
Izuku threw the ball as hard as he could, launching it into the distance.
Aizawa pulled his phone from his pocket, displaying the distance thrown on the device.
"835.3 meters!" A robotic voice chirped.
Aizawa turned back to the class.
"This looks fun!"
"We get to use our quirks as much as we want? Sweet!"
That was the wrong thing to say.
"Fun. You think this is fun? Alright, let's up the stakes. Whoever comes last overall is expelled from UA." Aizawa said.
"B-but that's not fair, it's only the first day!" The brunette said.
"Villains, natural disasters, terrorist attacks. None of these things are fair. It's up to the heroes to make it fair. Now, you're all going to have to do your best. Plus Ultra." Aizawa said.
Izuku passed most of the tests with a decent score. His doubles weren't overly useful for any of the tests except the long jump.
Aizawa held up a projector, letting the holographic screen reveal the scores.
Izuku was in fifth, right behind Yayorozu, Todoroki, Bakugo and Iida.
The invisible girl, Hagakure, was in last place.
"And the person getting expelled is.. no one. It was a logical ruse to get you to do your best."
Hagakure sighed in relief, while most of the class were in an uproar.
Iida was stood ramrod straight, his glasses cracking under his emotional pressure.
The brunette looked relieved for her classmate, and glad that Aizawa had reconsidered.
One of the recommendation students, Yayorozu Izuku believed, was looking around at the others in confusion.
"Of course he wouldn't expel anyone on the first day. His true intentions were quite obvious." She said.
Izuku looked back at their retreating homeroom teacher, a little unsure.
Aizawa's expression told Izuku he would expel an entire class without hesitation.
