Chapter 19
(Joseph's pov & Somewhat edited)
My ass was going to feel this tomorrow for sure. The forest was much different then it was all those years back the trees became larger, thicker. The tree roots that were underground were out in the open. Making the ride a pain in the ass. (( *wink wink*))
Dean and me where riding around the woods for about an hour now and we couldn't find anything. Neither could Tony in his own car could find anything. We had already checked the old cabin. It was the first place we checked. No one really had a clue about where they could be hiding. But apparently Dustin had a good idea.
I got a random call as we were having a conversation over if we needed to bring more people to help search.
"Joseph! They know! Go up hill" Dustin hung up before I could respond.
"Up hill!" I yelled out to Dean. The 6 cars immediately took a turn facing a hill that every other person of my family and I were forbidden to climb. But here I am going against there words. I did have one family member that apparently went over the hill and came back a totally different person. They had stayed down the hill over night and no one went after him. We called the hill 'smokers hill' because of all the ash that would be found around the hill.
When you look over the hill it was said to be that all you could see is darkness and no hope of return. So yeah, to finally get to see what this hill behold, slightly scares me.
We were only half way up, when we could already hear a lot of noise from the other side, noise we'd never heard before.
The sound of wheezing it just made me more eager to get over more quickly to see and understand. The cars stopped and we all paused to listen to the noises, scratch, tssss, scratch, tssss.
Dean said a few numbers and everyone spread at the edge of the hill. Slowly we began walking to the edge.
~flash back~
I sat on a couch in the middle of the room across from my dad. "Dad why was the company created for, like can't the nekos be there own owners" I asked my dad. We were in his old office/ Jason's. My dad brought me in to explain the details of the company since I'll be staring this summer.
"That's one stupid question, obviously it was for profit and they could never not be owned, they rely on humans to much to live on there own." My dad snickers at me. I kinda expected that answer from my dad but id never been allowed to ask about his work before so I just went for it.
My dad took a few puffs from his cigar and looked up at the ceiling as the smoke slowly rose up. I could tell my dad hadn't been sleeping too much lately, well not much at all really.
"Joseph...this company is bigger then you think...if you to take over I'm going to need you to understand we did this all for the family...we had some low times Joseph, but it's all for our future generations..."
~end of flash back~
I felt the smoke come into my lungs just like the old times with my father. Down the hill was a factory looking building with only one large window. It looked to be very old with lots of rust from where I was standing. Slowly we walked down the hill some of us sliding down. Once we got to the bottom Dean immediately put me behind him and pulled out a gun from his left hip. I knew the guns where for protection but I was really hoping they wouldn't have to be used.
Everyone spread around the building and like nothing broke down 3 doors from all different sides. Dean looked around the area before leading me into the factory to see something I'd never suspect...aliens? No wait...mutants.
"I wasn't expecting guest this soon, if I'd known I would have cleaned a little more" a echoing voice surrounded everyone. No face to the voice but it was no mistake to that It was Christopher.
"Oh Joseph nice to see you again. I know I was gone for a long time but I hope this makes up for my missing days" his shadow comes down some side stairs facing the main entrance. Everyone points their guns at the stairs but I put up my hand making them recline back.
Christopher looks...horrible he looks like he's dying... His flesh was white with only a small tint to it, his face became more hollow as if he hadn't eaten in years. He looked a lot like my dad had looked in the hospital after he had passed out.
"Explain. Now" I demanded at him as he took small steps toward a table cluttered with different utilities.
"Well as you can see from the basic-" he takes a second to cough loudly.
"-Basic alien containers you'd seen in those stupid movies it ain't to hard to guess". He takes a few steps to a purple container like tube with non other but a person inside.
"This is a bear hybrid...disgusting ain't it...I hate all the animals...but the profit oh the profit!" As his voice gets louder a light wheezing noise come from him.
I walk up to container across from him only about 6 feet away. There were about 20 or more of the containers rowed out side by side with all kinds of hybrids.
"For the profit!?" I question him angrily.
"Oh yes profit! We've only sold one row of them but we've already got 8 million dollars, we did waste a lot of money on this ourselves with all the defaulted one we've had to get rid of" I feel the anger surge threw me...the smoke...non of them deserved this...
"Ourselves?" Oh hell yeah I was angry but I had to know as much as I could before we take him.
"Your father was a great boss. And friend, both of us created this factory with some other now deceased friend, sadly your father never got to see the first row be finished but he did tell me to go on with the project...your dad held many secrets from you Joseph...so many"
That was it the last straw so much had hit me today...the pain of it all- "Dean, do it" I look out the window for a second, it showed beautiful clouds moving slowly, steadily and almost calmingly.
"Joseph it's over already he's at his end." Dean looked at me worriedly. I knew he thought I was making a brisk decision without a thought. But this was no brisk decision.
"Christopher...your fired" I looked up at him and froze when I saw the small smile appearing on his face.
"Well, It was nice working with you Joseph" Slowly he walked toward me knowing the conscience of his actions would be.
Death
~
On the way home all that came into my mind, where pictures. I could have never imagined finding what I had found today. All of it was just...disturbing, horrible there was way to many words to describe it.
I felt Dean put his hand on my shoulder giving me a reassuring gesture. I smiled at him and looked back out the window at the calming clouds.
We were in the car for no longer then 8 minutes when we suddenly remembered something.
WHERE TF DID TONY GO
"Oh my gawd, oh my gawd, oh my oh my" Dean turned the car around and we went back. Dammit
~
"Tony where the hell where you?" I looked at him as he was walking around in a circle thinking deeply.
"We can't leave the mutants" Tony replies with total seriousness.
"Tony, you don't mean for us to take the containers, right?" I looked at him with a eyebrow raised because well he seemed a little crazy here.
"No, I mean leave the containers but let the mutants grow till there 8, which apparently is the age their bodies are fully connected (paper work in the factory), but were not taking them for profit, were taking them to give them lives, good ones at that, they were brought into this by force we have to repay them back..." He looked determined as he spoke till he hit the end. You could tell this hit him hard but I could tell there was something different about him.
"I...I agree but I know that's not all you have to say Tony." With a small frown I replied I felt like I had an idea were this was going.
"There's a girl, a little girl in there...it's Janine...I just know it is, the eyes are the same the hair...oh Joseph please don't let me lose her twice" he walked to me and gave me a hug I could tell he was in tears with his shaky breath. Tony was one of the most caring guys I knew, he helped me so much when I was younger. I couldn't just let him go through this again.
"Ok...were saving this group of mutants but that's all I'll be able to do"
~
