TITANS TOWER, 2019

Arriving a few minutes before the Titans did, Kory has locked herself into her room. In total silence, she stares at the ceiling as she lays on her bed, unable to hear the Titans enter the tower as she's too focused on her thoughts. It takes a few minutes for her to recall everything until someone knocks on her door. Turning her head away from the ceiling, she looks at the door. It is quiet for a few seconds until the person behind the door starts talking.

"Kory? ", Gar asks. "Can I come in? ". Kory pushes herself up and walks up to the door. Unlocking the door, she lets Gar in before sitting back down on the bed. Gar watches her from the doorway, thinking about his words.

"You're just gonna keep standing there? ", Kory asks, her raspy voice gone. She raises an eyebrow at the green-haired teenager, who silently shakes his head before sitting down next to her.

"How's your neck? ". Her hands reach towards her neck, which still feels sore and slightly painful.

"Fine. ", she lies.

"And you? How are you? ", he questions and receives a shrug from Kory. "I know we've all been attacked before, so it shouldn't be such a big deal. ", he begins. "But this looked different, a little bit personal. ".

"It is. ", Kory answers shortly. Her eyes snap back to the ceiling as she drops back onto the bed. "I know him... Well, used to. ". Gar frowns at her words as Kory glances at him. She sighs before explaining. "He used to be my childhood best friend... That was before I left Tamaran and lost my memories. ". Gar stays quiet, looking down at her with sympathy in his eyes. Kory pushes herself up again and continues: "It feels like I don't know him anymore. He attacked me. Percy would never attack or hurt me. ".

"Well, go find out what happened. ", Gar says and Kory glares at him as she opens her mouth, ready to go against him but Gar continues before she can say anything. "They brought him to the Medical Wing. ". Kory almost jumps off the bed, racing into the hallway before quickly returning to the doorway.

"Oh, Gar? ". He looks at her. "Thanks for the talk. ", she smiles, before speeding to the Medical Wing. Ignoring the questioning looks of the other Titans, she continues and almost runs into Dawn when entering the first room.

"Oh, Kory! How's- ", the blondie begins, but Kory slips past her. She stops before reaching the bed and the color drains out of her face at the sight. Dawn places a hand on her shoulder, saying: "When Dick knocked him out, he gave him a concussion. ", she explains. "Besides that, he's starting to get a fever too. ".

Kory glances at Percy's state. He's pale but has flushed cheeks and sweat drips down his temples. The bandage around his head isn't unnoticeable too, as it covers most of his forehead and the back of his head. And besides all of that, there are multiple visible bruises on his body. If it wasn't for his rising chest, Kory would have thought he died.

"Shouldn't he be awake since he has a concussion? ", Kory wonders.

"I gave him a little bit of sedative. ", Dawn explains. Kory gives her a shocked look and she quickly continues: "Dick's order. He was afraid he might attack again. But I didn't give him enough to keep him asleep. He should wake up soon, but he might be a little bit sluggish. ". She watches Kory, who's attention is focused on the black-haired man.

"Why are you looking at me like that? ", Kory asks, drawing her attention to Dawn.

"You know him, don't you? ", Dawn asks without any hesitation. Crossing her arms, she raises her eyebrow at Kory who sighs.

"He used to be my best friend. ".

"Used to? ", Dawn asks. "What happened? ". Kory grabs a chair and sits down, explaining everything she just told Gar, and Dawn listens carefully.

"And then, I left. Without a word. ", Kory finishes. Sighing, she glances back at Percy and speaks up again: "He must be mad at me. That's probably why he attacked me, the anger took over. ".

"Unfortunately, you can't go back to change the past. ", she explains. "But you can change the future by making it up to him. ". Kory sighs and nods, her eyes flashing back to Dawn's. A smile appears on her face, and Dawn frowns. "What's with the smile? ".

"I just can't think of a better friend than you. ". Dawn smiles back.

"That's what friends are for. ". A silence starts but is quickly followed by a groan which makes the women jump up. Kory walks up to the bed, grabbing Percy's hand as she studies his face.

"Perce? ". His eyes open and narrow as the bright light reaches his eyes.

"Kory? ", his voice breaks, and his eyes fill with tears. Kory smiles at him and nods, stroking the back of his hand with her thumb.

"I am here. ", she assures him as his grip on her hand tightens. His vision is going in and out of focus, blurring Kory's face every few seconds. Feeling the anesthetic running through his veins, he sinks deeper into the mattress beneath him and he pulls the blanket closer to his body.

"Why are you here? ", Percy mumbles, turning his head to her. "When did you get here? And why are you in my room... staring at me when I was sleeping? ".

"I am not... ", Kory stutters and Percy frowns. "You are on Earth, Percy. Not home, not Alvamor... ". His eyes widen as he sits up, fists clenching the sheets around him as the room starts spinning around him.

"W-What? ". Breathing was hard when he feels his heart thud, chest growing tight. There is pain visible in his eyes and tears begin to shimmer in his eyes. Kory cups his face, her fingers brushing the tears and sweat off his face.

She feels stupid. Why did she say that?

"Hey, hey. Everything is okay, you're okay... ", she shushes. He shakes his head rapidly, making himself dizzy. He tries to push Kory away, but she doesn't let him go. "Percy, listen to me! ", she begs.

"N-No..!". Dawn rushes to his IV to give Percy more sedative. Kory watches Dawn, unsure what to do. But eventually, Kory lets Dawn do her thing as she waits for Percy to settle down. He gulps, body folding forward and Dawn quickly pushes a bowl underneath his mouth as he pukes. Percy whines, eyes fluttering shut as Kory helps him lay back down.

"I'm so sorry... ", Kory whispers, tearing up as she strokes his head, watching him pass out again, and her heart breaks. "You'll be fine. ".
