Injuries

"Ah shit!"

"You cut your finger? How?"

"It was an accident! It's going to get infected and I'll have to get it removed!"

"Jeff.. Chill out."

~

Okay. We all get hurt. Broken bones, cuts, bruises, scratches. The works.

Don't make it unrealistic.

Okay, so a broken leg is not such a big deal? Bull crap.

A broken leg needs to be put in a cast for several weeks for it to heal. That's all there is to it. Just stay off of it. There are some places where you get cut you will die but there are other places where you cannot die if you get hurt.

1. You can die if influenza
2. I'm pretty sure there are snakes and animals in the forest that would love to hurt you. But Slenderman probably killed them off.

3. Allergies are not deadly.

And second.. Why can your OC's jump from cliffs and buildings without breaking their legs or spraining her ankles?

If there was water at the bottom then maybe she will survive.

"Okie dokie. Jeff, you okay?"

"I guess.. Got a bandaid?"

"Up there."

"Okay. Don't let me fall."

"Oh my God you pussy!"

~
"I told you not to let me fall!"

"It was funny seeing you hit the ground though!"

"You're no fun!"

Oh yeah, if Jeff cuts you, hope that it's just a graze! Because after years of killing I'm sure he knows how to do his job correctly.

Seriously, if he throws his knife at you you're probably going to get hit. Unless you have great reflexes, then you may get lucky.

What else? Okay, here are other issues.

1. Most stories end the same.

2. Jeff says the same thing in almost every story. His resolve is the same.

3. When the protagonist gets hurt, they pretty much skip over it.

I know it can seem boring to write about it but readers need to know about it so they won't make the same mistake. Here's an example.

Let's say Jeff stabbed you in the arm. The knife is dirty and the wound will need to be cleaned. If it doesn't it may get infected. Which you definitely do not want it to do. Jeff may not care at all but he would take that opportunity to hurt you worse.

If you break your leg it may not heal because Jeff won't give a crap.

How about this.. If you want to survive, listen to Jeff for once. Don't plot your escape so soon. Jeff knows more than you think he does, even if he is an idiot.

"Hey!"

"Shut up."

If your character gets hurt, make it realistic. Don't skip over it. Here, this may show you just how fatal cuts or punches can be.

If Jeff was in front of you, and was trying to kill you, he would know where to strike you. There are arteries in the human body where you can bleed out instantly. Internal bleeding can also kill you. The human body is fragile, if you plan on writing bloody scenes do a bit of research to know what you're writing if medically possible and what you can do to fix it or what the outcomes with be. How will it affect your character? Stuff like that.

"I have one last question."

"What Jeff?"

"How do you know all of this?"

...

"Hey! Get back here, why are you running?!"
