70| Come Together

Irene couldn't imagine how overwhelmed Kara had to be about everything. She had only had a couple of hours to make a decision that would change her life completely. Irene herself still felt overwhelmed by it all and she had days to process it.

Now the three of them were in Gotham where Bruce had instructed them all to meet. But it was only Diana who was standing in the empty airfield. It wasn't difficult to assumed that Bruce had probably bought a large portion of the airfield for privacy.

"Diana. This is Kara Danvers." Irene introduced realizing for the first time that Diana was alone.

She wanted to ask about Victor, and she was sure that whatever happened had to be complicated. Although Irene didn't know the whole story about what happened to Victor Stone, what they did know was that he had gone through something horrible.

In the end Irene knew that Bruce had been right to send her to recruit Kara. That he had made the right call, and although Irene was aware that Bruce had made mistakes in the past she felt as if he hadn't been wrong to send Diana to Victor.

Irene had enough faith in both Bruce and Diana to believe the maybe Victor would come around. And though she had only known Victor for a short time what she did know was that he was incredibly kind, that in the end he wouldn't be able to ignore this and turn away.

"Nice to meet you Kara." Diana replied with a warm smile that seemed to calm Kara's nerves.

Before they could say anything else a large plane started coming down on the runway.

Bruce was here.

Whether his trip to Central City or Iceland and was successful that was still a mystery. She knew that Bruce doubted that he had the ability to recruit anyone, and although she didn't know that whole story about what happened to whoever had been Robin in the past. There was no doubt that it was the reason why Bruce had little faith in his ability to inspire others.

When the plane came to a stop a couple of feet away from them they watched as Bruce Wayne began to walked down the steps. A boy with blonde hair following close behind him.

That had to be Barry Allen.

They couldn't be entirely surprised that Arthur Curry wasn't with them. Diana had warned them that Atlanteans were difficult, thought Irene had assumed that Diana's reluctance was due to the history between the Atlanteans and the Amazonians.

"That's Bruce Wayne?" Kara whispered as she looked up at Bruce with disbelief.

Irene and Jimmy had told Kara that Batman was going to be part of the team, though they had omitted that fact that Bruce Wayne was Batman. It seemed like something that would be difficult to believe.

"He's Batman." Jimmy whispered back causing Kara to gasp. "I know."

The both of them began whispering excitedly to one another, as Bruce and Barry approached them.

Bruce looked around at all of them and didn't seem entirely satisfied with what he saw. "Where's the cyborg?"

"His name is Victor. We met, spoke. Give him time." Diane stated firmly not allow Bruce sour this moment with his disappointment. "You must be Barry. I'm Diana."

Barry eyes widened when he realized that Diana's attention was now on him. She clearly made him nervous, something that was entirely understandable. Diana was beautiful, and radiated power.

"Hi, Barry. I'm Diana." Barry muttered with an almost dreamlike smile on his face. He instantly realized his mistake as his eyes went wide and he blushed. "That's not right. Great."

"I'm Irene." She introduced herself trying to save Barry from any more embarrassment. The last thing that they needed was to scare him away. "And this is Kara."

"Happy to be here. Actually not happy considering the circumstances... but it's nice to meet you all." Kara said quickly clearly nervous about it all. Not that Irene could blame her, the truth was that they really had no idea what they were truly up against.

Diana sighed as she looked around, they definitely weren't the Amazonian warriors that she was probably used to fighting with but there was still a small smile on her lips. It seemed that even though the odds weren't entirely in their favor that there was some hope. "So, this is us."

"Yeah, this is us." Bruce confirmed and unlike Diana he didn't seem as pleased.

Bruce had wanted the team to be bigger. And although Kara and Barry were both unbelievably powerful, maybe it wasn't enough. According to the history the Diana retold them it had taken an a lot more than four people to defeat Darkseid.

"Oh! Awesome!" Barry suddenly as he pointed up at the night sky. "It's the Bat-Signal. That's your... Oh, sorry." He said his voice now a whisper. "That's your signal. That means we have to go now."

"Yeah, that's what that means." Bruce replied.

"It's so cool." Barry exclaimed unable to contain his excitement.

There was something sweet about Barry. He seemed kind and almost carefree even after everything he had been through as a child. For most having experienced something so traumatic at a young age could cast a darkness upon over them, but not Barry. Similar to Kara he had a natural warmth to him.

Irene couldn't help but fear that being a part of all this would steal that all away.

As Jimmy, Kara and Barry all began talking excitedly among each other it was almost a relief that they all seemed to get along pretty well. Though the knowledge that there was a terrible threat looming close didn't allow this meeting to feel like something that should be celebrated.

The reality was that they were all putting their lives on the line for this, but the lives of millions depended on them making this work.

Bruce stepped closer to Irene and Diana as they watched the others. "Is she..."

"Kryptonian? Yes." Irene informed already anticipating his question. She knew that Bruce wanted more physical power on the team, and she also knew that he didn't think they had enough of it with even just Diana. "She's Clark's cousin."

Bruce's eyes widened slightly, shocked by the revelation. It was clear that Bruce didn't get caught off guard often. "That means..."

"Don't get too excited. She's only been on Earth for three years. Suppressing her powers this entire time." She said quickly before Bruce's expectations of her became to high. Not that Irene didn't believe in Kara, but she didn't want Bruce placing to much pressure on her so quickly. "She's not in full control."

"She will be." Diana assured, and her confidence eased Irene. If there was anyone who could help Kara it was Diana, and although Irene had only known Kara for a couple of hours she felt some kind of connection to her.

A responsibility to make sure that she would be okay. Especially because she was the one that pulled Kara away from her normal life and asked her to be a part of fighting against an unknown threat.

Irene knew that if Clark was with them now that he would also feel a responsibility to her.

"Alfred can take you and your friend back to the warehouse." Bruce stated as he gestured to the black car waiting for them. Alfred was already standing outside with the door open waiting. "You'll be safe there."

There was nothing else that need to be said as Irene waved Jimmy over. Bruce and the others were needed and Irene couldn't help but feel like it was all happening too fast. That they needed more time.

The moment that they returned to the warehouse Alfred had rushed to the computers at the other side of the room setting everything up so that he could get in contact with Bruce.

From watching him this was clearly all second nature to the butler now, years of helping Bruce as Batman evident with every movement.

"Where are we, Alfred?" Bruce's voice could be heard through the intercom.

"Stryker's Island. You should be directly under the venting tower for the tunnel." Alfred replied as he pulled up images and different video footage from around the island. He was far from any normal butler seated in front of all the computers helping Bruce navigate the building. "Now look to your left, you'll see a staircase to the machine room. Thermal scan shows a cluster of people there."

Alfred was then able to pull up security images from inside the building, the cameras were outdated. The images blurry, but even through the blurry images there was no mistaking the horrifying creature in the images.

An alien that had to be at least 10 feet tall hovered over all the hostages. That thing had to be one of Darkseid's conquerors, here to find a Motherbox just like Diana had said.

And as a fight broke out between that thing and Bruce and the others it was evident just how underpowered they were.

But not only was that thing and all the other creatures that seemed to work for him overpowering the team, unfortunately none of them knew how to work together.

"This is all just so fucking cool." Jimmy muttered in his seat as they watched the images across a dozens of screens in front of them.

Irene didn't share Jimmy excitement, no matter how cool it was. Had it been under any other circumstances she would have been just as excited.

There was a time that she had been excited about this kind of thing. But that was before she realized that what Bruce, Diana and the others were doing could cost them their lives.

With Clark she had never considered that she could lose him until it was too late. There was too much at stake and Irene didn't think that she could watch anyone else die.

A/N: Love that we're finally getting to the Justice League. I know it's been I while since I last updated but I had some terrible writers block.
