57| Doomsday

From across they bay they could hear it. The sound  was like a scream but it didn't exactly sound human. It was a chilling sound and it was clear that whatever was happening in Metropolis was horrible.

"Give me your phone Jimmy." Irene ordered needing know exactly what was happening in Metropolis. She couldn't just patiently stand on the island and not know what was happening.

The second Jimmy handed it to Irene she quickly started playing live footage from Metropolis 8. The headline read:

"UNIDENTIFIED CREATURE ATTACK".

The live footage playing left her speechless. Superman was fighting what she could only describe as a monster. Irene watched in horror as it picked up Superman tossing through a nearby building as if he was nothing.

The helicopter followed the creature as it jumped from the center of Heroes Park to the top of the LexCorp tower.

"These are live images from the top of the LexCorp tower in Downtown Metropolis. Military aircraft are on the scene." Soledad O'Brien reported as the camera remained focused on the monster. "This thing emerged from the Kryptonian crash site just moments ago. Thankfully the work day is over in the downtown core, it's nearly empty."

"What the hell did Lex Luthor do?" Jimmy questioned the fear in his voice unmistakable. They had never seen anything like this before.

That thing came from the Kryptonian crash site, and it had what looked like laser vision. It had to have. One from Krypton or was created to resemble Kryptonian biology. "He created something to kill Superman."

Nothing from this world could. Lex thought that Batman would do it and he was wrong. It seemed like he had another plan in case Batman failed. But this was much worse than anyone could imagine.

"Now, military aircraft. Those are Apache helicopters, they have now just arrived. The image..."

Before the she could finish the military helicopters began firing at the creature. But that seemed to have no effect of the creature as it began shooting an electric blast almost like it was getting stronger. Suddenly the blast got stronger and the image went black.

"We have uh... We just lost connection with Metropolis 8 news. Now, it's not clear what just happened." Soledad O'Brien informed when the cameras returned to her but from the expression on her face it was obvious what had happened. The helicopter had been hit with one of the electric blast. "We are now being told the Superman is forcing the creature out of the city and taking up into space."

Jimmy took his phone back and turned of the news. He knew it was for the best because it was only making the both of them anxious but Irene still wanted to know what was happening. "I'm sure he's fine. He's Superman."

Jimmy didn't seem at all concerned or worried, and Irene wished that she could feel the same. It wasn't that she didn't have faith in Clark, but she also had to accept that he had never faced anything like this before.

It wasn't long before a plane came down towards the island, and Jimmy elbowed Irene as if she hadn't already been looking up at them.

"The Batwing." Jimmy muttered looking at the plane with excitement wide eyes as it landed only a couple of feet away from them.

They both watched in silence as Batman stepped out of the plane and began walking towards them. He was no longer wearing the metal armor he had on while ago, but he seemed to have regained his composure since the last time they saw him.

Bruce stopped in front of Irene, his expression extremely serious. "That thing it's...."

"Kryptonian." She finished having come to the same realization. But with that realization came the fact that the only thing that could kill it was Kryptonite. "You're here for the spear."

Bruce nodded and Irene felt her heart sink, annoyed that the spear was now lying somewhere in the bottom of a lake.

Before she could tell him what had happened something crashed a couple of feet in front of them. The impact from the crash caused them all to take a step back, and as the dust settled they found themselves face to face with the creature.

"Oh, shit." Bruce muttered as he moved in front of Irene, bracing for the impact of the beams that were already threatening to come from its glowing red eyes. They all knew that they would be dead, that there was nothing Bruce could do.

It all happened in a matter of seconds, because as beams came towards them something else jumped between them and that creature. There was a bright glow and for a moment Irene had hoped that it was it was Clark but as the light dimmed it because clear that it was a woman that had taken the blast.

The bracelets around her wrists were still glowing as if they had absorbed the beams from the creature. She brought her wrists together, causing a sonic blast that pushed creature backwards towards the other side of the island.

For the first time in Irene's life she was left with her mouth open in shock. When the woman turned around she realized that it was Diana Prince.

She was wearing the same warrior armor that she had in the photograph of her with the soldiers from World War I. Seeing her in front of them now it was amazing to see her with so much power.

But even all her power didn't seem to be enough because that creature was already getting back up, and it only grew stronger with every hit. Diana readied herself for its attack, but suddenly Superman came down from the sky tackling the creatures into some nearby silos causing a large explosion.

"Is this island entirely abandoned?" Diana questioned her eyes still trained on the area where Superman had just tackled that thing. Prepared to fight the moment it was needed.

"Yes. And there's a weapon here that can kill it." Bruce replied and although he seemed slightly shocked he hide his shock well.

Diana let herself relax for a moment as she finally turned towards them. "This thing, this creature, seems to feed on energy."

"This thing is from another world. My world." Clark stated as he flew down landing next to Bruce and Diana.

Diana drew her sword looking unfazed by what Clark had just told her. "I've killed things from other worlds before."

"We'll need the spear to kill it." Batman stated firmly as he looked between Irene and Jimmy knowing they they were the last ones who knew where the spear had been.

"Jimmy and I will get the spear. You three focus on that thing." Irene told them knowing that it would be back soon and if Clark was struggling to defeat it in his own that he would need the both of them in this fight.

"Irene..."

"Don't worry about me." She insisted knowing that whatever that thing was required his full attention.  Clark nodded once turning his attention back to the creature.

Not wasting another moment Jimmy and Irene began running to the lake. She didn't dare turn around even thought she could hear the fight happening behind them. Looking back would not only make her more nervous and scared than she already was. Even if she didn't want to admit how afraid she was, all she knew was that she needed to keep pushing forward and not look back.

The two of them stopped at the lake, both of them hesitating.

"I'll get it." Irene stated as she quickly took her coat off, she didn't want anything slowing her down. She had no idea how deep the lake was or how far the spear had gone.

"Irene you aren't a very good swimmer." Jimmy reminded her, and although it was true it wasn't something that was going to stop her.

"You aren't either."

Jimmy looked speechless for a moment, but he still seemed determined. "I might be slightly better."

"You know this wouldn't be an issue if someone hadn't thrown the spear in the lake." Irene stated even though they had no way of knowing that this would happen.

"It seemed like a good idea at the time." He defended as Irene kicked off her shoes.

"Wait here." She told him quickly before diving into the the lake.

Everything depended on them getting this spear. And she wanted to remain hopeful, wanted to believe that once she got the spear everything would be okay. But it didn't feel that way.

It felt that Lex Luthor had thought of every single thing to make sure that they would suffer. And Irene couldn't help but think that even if they did defeat that creature that Luthor had thought of something else to torture them with.

A/N: I hate writing action scenes, I'm not very good at them and they give me writer's block. Good thing Irene really isn't at the center of action. Love writing Wonder Woman though, she was so powerful in this movie it was amazing.
