Chapter 12: The Vision
As soon as she told me it was Isabell, Ezra disappeared and Kass was back. She cursed me out quite a bit and said she didn't know why she hadn't remembered coming into the basement. She left outside to smoke a cigarette. I quickly stumbled out of the basement and up to my room. I didn't care if I was on punishment. I wasn't touching that basement floor anymore.
I wasn't going to wake Isabell.
That night I drifted off into sleep quickly while sensing myself awake in my dream. It was a one of those vivid dreams-one where I saw my father as clear as day. I told him I was dreaming but his body began to fade away. Suddenly two burnt hands quickly stuck up from underneath my father had been standing. With the arms still in the surface of the ground, the hands made their way towards me. I tried to run but I couldn't move.
That's when everything turned black and I started having sleep paralysis again.
This time I didn't see anything but heard lots of screaming. The screaming of multiple people but I couldn't tell which gender. It didn't sound like anything I was familiar with. Nothing human for sure. At times their screams would be distant then get close again. Something that looked like legs stood beside me. Two pairs-both burnt to a crisp. I could hear a voice.
"Isabell."
The voice was clear.
I wanted to ask what. What do you want? But, I was too scared. Scared I would hear something I didn't want to. Or worst. Wake Isabell. I didn't say a thing out of fear something would talk back. I just wanted it to end. To just stop.
A few seconds later, it stopped.
I woke up in a sweat. I was actually burning up. Turning on my light, I noticed my mom had come in and opened my window. A nice cool breeze brushed against my skin. I took breaths as I looked out the window. I sat back on my bed, still looking out the window.
Kass walked in then immediately closed the door. She was shocked by the way I was up just looking out the window. "What are you doing?" She asked, with a confused look on her face.
I told her that I had a bad dream and I was hot.
"Your shirt is soaked. That's gross," she walked to my dresser and handed me a T-shirt. "change out of that."
I didn't even noticed how wet my back was. It was gross. "Why are you up?" I asked her. I could smell that she smoked before coming upstairs. It was kinda how I guessed it was the real Kass and not Ezra who I didn't have energy to deal with.
"I can't freaking sleep," she looked out the window. "I keep having weird dreams..." she paused. "some girl in my room. Watching me. The same room over and over. It feels so real."
I opened my mouth but didn't know what to say. What to tell her.
"I don't like this place," she said. "the energy is way off."
She didn't believe me about the finger being real yet her dreams made her feel like the place had weird energy. I hated that. That I couldn't tell her what I knew without sounding crazy.
Before I could reply, her phone rang. She answered and put it on speaker. I could see it was an unknown number.
"Hello? Who Is this?" Kass asked.
There was no answer at first, until we started hearing faint voices of someone crying. The hairs on my neck went up. I recognized Ezra's voice. It began getting louder. Kass looked at me. Not because she heard the crying on the phone but because we also heard it clearly outside our door. We both faced the door, horrified that the childish voice sounded harsher, deeper, more in pain. It was not a kid's voice. Not a man or woman's voice. As heard before, a voice that wasn't human. Kass heard it too. She now stood up beside me.
"You hear it right?" I asked, trying not to sound excited that she finally could hear something.
"What is that?" she asked, horrified.
"Is it Ezra?" I asked while looking at the door thinking she'd answer.
The crying stopped.
"Ezra?" Kass said. "That's the girl. The girl in my dreams. She told me her name. I remember now."
"She's been possessing you, Kass!" I said.
"But why? Why me?"
"I'm not sure," I said. "should we open the door?"
"No way!" Kass shook her head. "So she can possess me again? Are you nuts? We need to find a way to stop her."
"I'm so glad you believe me now," I nearly smiled.
I don't know where Kass got the courage, but she quickly walked over to the door and opened it. I was hoping hard...very hard that something wasn't there. However. something was there and I couldn't believe what it was.
Somehow, we could see the basement. A strange, dreamlike picture of it. I felt like I was watching a very staticy television set. I could see the floorboard. Suddenly mice appeared, going in and out of the floorboard.
A mouse looked at us as if it could see me and Kass looking back at it. I think it did. I was starting to feel nauseous, and weak like I was losing control of my body. Before me, Kasse's knees buckled and she fell to the ground with her hands out in front. I was next. I fell to my knees too. The mouse came our way, strangely walking out of the dreamlike world into ours. It placed something in between both of us. Right there, in front of our eyes, the mouse left someones eye. It swayed in a way the pupil would face me then Kass then me then Kass. It wouldn't stop rolling.
I wanted to scream, but I realized I couldn't. What? What was this?
It stopped.
The vision was gone. The eye and mice were gone. I could move my body. I could see Kass painting and gasping for air. Just to double check, I looked at her and nodded.
"Just making sure but um...you saw and felt all of that right?" I asked.
She nodded slowly then whispered. "Yeah..."
I looked at the floor and let out a sigh of relief and even cracked a tiny smile. "Finally." Someone believed me.
