Chapter 33: Letting her go
"You look beautiful." Brad lifted his arm for me to grab.
A small blush crept in my cheeks. "Thanks" I mumbled avoiding eye contact. It always felted weird when my best friends complimented me. We were now walking out of the front porch at my house towards the awaiting limousine.
"Aw, is Emily blushing?" Mason cooed trying to pinch my cheeks when we finally reached our ride. I avoided his hands and gave him my best glare.
"Touch me and you won't be able to visit little Mason in a long time." He retrieved his hands quickly, but kept his amused smile. I rolled my eyes and went to get in but Mason motioned for me to wait. I frowned watching him going towards the passenger side of the limo and came back quickly with something in his hands.
"Here" He smiled at me and gave me a plastic box with a bow around it.
When I realized what it was, my eyes began to water. It was a wrist corsage. The flower left me breathless. I took the beautiful wildflower and placed it in my wrist, forgetting all my previous thoughts about how tacky it was for a girl to receive one.
"Come on guys! It won't be homecoming if we are not there!" You can tell that Tori was already a little tipsy thanks to the pre-party shots they were doing. If not, she wouldn't be yelling at us from the hole on the top of the limousine waving her arms over her head like a crazy person.
When we arrived at the school, the dance was in full swing. The once dull gym was now decorated to resemble a night club. There were white lights sparkling on a black background and the middle of the basketball court had a huge square glass with lighting underneath. The place looked kind of cool.
I took a deep breath and began to smooth my dress. Everything by now was going good, but I couldn't avoid having second thoughts.
I shouldn't be here.
My breathing faltered, and I began to hyperventilate.
What if he's here?
At that moment, I began to scan the room for any signs of him.
"Hey" Tori grabbed my hand and with the other she began to stoke my forearm in a soothing motion. "Everything's going to be okay. But if you feel like you want to go, don't hesitate in letting us know, alright?"
I took a short breath and nodded. "Good, now come. I want to dance the night away with my best friend." She winked at me in an exaggerated manner succeeding on making me chuckle.
For the first time in days, I smiled. I was surrounded with some of the people that I love, who clearly were not afraid to make themselves look silly just to make me smile. Brad and Tori weren't that bad. You could tell they had some moves, but –Lord, Mason looked like if he was having a stroke.
I was having fun, but couldn't avoid admitting that the night was going quite slow.
"I need to go to the restroom." I yelled at Tori trying to be heard over the music.
She nodded. "I'll come with you." She yelled back and we headed towards the restrooms. Tori was rambling incoherently. She obviously has been having too much 'punch'.
After getting the deed done, I was about to open the door when I heard the name of Drake being mentioned in a conversation.
I tried to see through the crack and finally spotted two girls putting on some lipstick and fixing their hair. Tori must've noticed their conversation topic because I couldn't hear her next to me.
"I know! He's so yummy." One of the girls said in an annoying tone. Her beach blonde dry hair and too-tight-to-breathe dress made me roll my eyes. Typical blonde bimbo. No, sorry, let me rephrase that typical slutty blonde bimbo.
"Uh-hum, and I heard that he finally dumped that loser of a nerd he had tailing behind him." The brunette with a similar dress sneered.
"Do you think you have a shot at that?" Slutty blonde bimbo turned to her smirking.
Slutty brunette scoffed. "Of course, if that nerd did, why couldn't I?" With that they left, leaving their stupid giggles behind.
I heard the bathroom stall door next to mine open slowly.
"Em, don't listen to those dumb bitches, please. They know sh*t." I felt I was frozen. I couldn't even breathe normally. My eyes began to sting with the threat of new fresh tears.
Imagine having every insecurity and every thought that you've been having voiced. Even when Drake said that he was letting me go because he wasn't enough, I couldn't avoid having those thoughts. And now...it became real.
I heard a soft knock. "Em, please, open the door." Tori whispered.
I closed my eyes and began to repeat my little mantra 'Do not cry in front of your friends. Do not make them pity you. It's their night also. Don't ruin it'.
I opened the door slowly and forced a smile. "I'm done wasting my time with this relationship." I told her while she hauled me on one of her signature embrace.
"Do you want to go? You know we can go and on our way we can find Drake and tag team on kicking his ass." I couldn't help but chuckle at her words.
I rolled my eyes. "Please, I don't want our night ruined by spending it on the ER."
"You think we couldn't take him?" She raised an eyebrow in a joking manner.
"Are you kidding? The boys would be knocked by just one of his glares. I'm afraid you would send him to the hospital." I'm not kidding. I really think she would.
We laughed imagining all kind of scenarios while we walked back where the boys were at.
For once, everything felt like it was returning to normal.

Drake's POV
"Man, would you stop it?" Liam pleaded with a hint of annoyance in his tone.
"What?" I snapped at him while I couldn't take my eyes of what I was seeing.
Daniel scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Drake, you haven't been able to take your eyes off her all night. Just go talk to her." He suggested. We were standing near the exit were some decorations where perfect to cover us. Not that my friends were trying to hide. They were pretty much pissed at me for the way I was behaving.
I have been getting sh*t from them. They couldn't understand the reasons why I had to let Emily go. It makes sense...well at least for me.
"Either you go talk to her and stop this stalker tendency, or we go and talk to her to make her know of your stalker tendency." Josh said in a monotone voice, clearly bored of this situation already.
"Yeah man, either you do something other than stalk her or we leave you here to get mauled by those slutty girls that have been eye-raping you." Liam smirked and looked at the direction where a group of girls were standing clearly ogling at us. I straighten up while I avoided shivering. I began walking towards the exit.
"What are you doing?" Daniel asked confused tagging along with the others.
I held the exit door and turned to look at Emily. She was laughing and dancing with her friends. With a sad smile, I turned to my friends.
"Letting her go."

I can't take any more of these chapters!! They are so sad, and I'm so sorry but I promise everything is building up towards the end. There are like five or six more chapters left. I'm itching to begin writing another story I'm cooking up in my mind, but that won't be until Christmas's brake.
So, hope you like :)
