Chapter 18: Between pickup lines, bonfires and street fighters
When I went back to my brothers, they were arguing where should we go to eat and knowing them this would take a long time. I suggested one of the diners at the shore; they all agreed seeing that they served different kind of foods. We sat at the table, all of them were laughing at poor Matty's expense. Seems like yesterday he was working up his charm with a girl, the bad thing is that he's the worst at pickup lines sober imagine him a little tipsy.
Jake was breathless, but nothing stopped him from telling the story. "You should've been there." He choked with his laughter before he continued. "He-he said 'You must be Jamaican 'cause Jamaican me crazy'." Oh Lord. I have to admit that I have heard worst from him but Jake's laugh was contagious. Nate was wiping tears from his eyes at the memory. Apparently they were close to Matty and the poor girl, and heard it all. "And that's not even the worst of it."
Matty groaned while his head was on the table, obviously remembering yesterday's events. "After that poor girl left, he went to another and asked 'Hey baby, what's your sign? Caution, slippery when wet, dangerous curves ahead, or yield?'" They were all now smacking the table unable to control their laughing fit.
"Man, how many times have I told you? Girls want to get fuck-laid." Brody corrected himself quickly after I gave him a pointed look.
"Not making it any better." He ignored me and kept talking.
"You can't go for what you want right on the spot." Matty made a move to speak but Brody cut him quickly. "Or suggest it. You need to get her to think that you are interested in how she feels, but before that you need to say a clever thing to break the ice."
"Pigs." I rolled my eyes.
He continued to ignore me. "It's like this. Jake, you'll be the girl and I'm-"
"Why do I have to be the girl? Why can't Emily do it? I mean she looks like one." Jake cut him off and whined like a five-year-old.
"Either that's because Emily would rather die than do this, or the fact that she is about to have your balls pulled out of your throat if you keep pissing her."
"Lovely way to put it, Brody," Nate replied sarcastically to his comment.
"Anyways...Like I was saying you'll be the girl and I'll be the less-horny-fucked-up-version of you," Brody continued. "And Emily, pay attention, so you don't get fooled by shit like this from assholes."
I found his last statement so funny. Well, looks like they think of themselves as assholes. Which is funny because they are nothing like that in reality, any girl would be lucky to have them in a long term relationship. If only they would see that, until then I have to listen to stuff like this.
"It goes like this; hey, beautiful night isn't it?"
"Aw, come on!" They all dismissed his stupid pickup line.
"What? It always work!" Brody defended but they weren't listening anymore.
"With who? Thirteen-year-olds?" Jake scoffed and shook his head.
"Dude." Jake smacked Matty to gain his attention. "What you need to say is this; did it hurt? Because something as beautiful like you must have fell from heaven."They all began to laugh. Is it me or their ideas are getting stupider by the minute?
"How you get girls to come home with you is beyond me." I shook my head in disbelief. "Haven't it crossed your only neuron suffocating in there to simply talk to the girl? Compliment her, be real. That's why you guys haven't found a decent girl, a girl that has presented a challenge for you. You always go for the easy not the classy." After my rant, the three were silent taking into consideration what I just said, but Nate was smiling. He was the only one out of them who got a girlfriend, that's why he knew what I was saying is true. When he goes out with them on Fridays, his girlfriend is with him or he's alone; he's always the designated driver. I admire him, because he's not only taking care of me, but also he's always taking care of them.
Finally, our food arrived and they changed the topic. I only hope that they could understand what I said and apply it to their lives. I really want to see them happy with someone.
~~~~~~~
When we arrived home, I ran upstairs and took a shower. After a while, I flopped on my bed. I was beat but I couldn't stop thinking about Drake. Where's he going to take me tonight? Or better yet, how am I going to get out of this house without anybody noticing it?
Shit! What am I going to wear? I ran to my closet but remembered, I don't know where the hell I'm going. I took my phone and decided to text Drake.
Hey, where are we going?
I threw it on my bed and kept looking at my closet, like if I stared enough it would tell me what to wear.
A minute later I heard my cell phone beep.
That's for me to know and for you to find out.
I rolled my eyes at his stupid line. I bet he's taking classes with the losers downstairs.
*roll eyes* riiight...anyways I need to know because I don't know what to wear, loser
I smiled at my comment loving how I can be myself with him.
Dear nerd, I wouldn't mind if you went without anything but if you must, wear something short and sexy *wiggling eyebrows*
I looked like a crazy person laughing at his message.
Now wouldn't you want that perv but thank you for your helpful insight.
Any time babe
God I look so stupid blushing because of a text message.
40 minutes later...
I laid on my bed staring at the ceiling; I think it was twenty minutes ago when I stopped looking for something to wear and ten since I stopped caring.
My cell phone beeped and I picked it up. I groaned when I looked at it.
I'm here
Still haven't found anything to wear :(
A few minutes later I heard my balcony doors open. I tell you the guy's suicidal. I jumped and locked my door quickly.
"You want to die, right?" He scoffed and flopped on my bed enjoying it a little too much. I held my breath when I noticed what he was wearing. He had dark jeans, a v-neck gray shirt and his signature combat boots. His hair was messed perfectly and he smelled so good that I wanted to cry.
"Take a picture it lasts longer." He smirked while repeating my words the first time he was here.
"Like hell I will" He laughed when I also quoted him. But seriously, I took my phone out and took him a picture. I'd be crazy if I didn't. He chuckled at that.
"I don't know what you complain about. You look beautiful." At this I was blushing like crazy. I lowered my head hiding my blush but at the same time I was taking a second look at what I was wearing. My off the shoulder orange shirt and white shorts aren't that bad, but I still don't know if this is okay.
"Thanks, but I still don't know if this is nice enough." I looked at him shyly.
"Trust me that's more than nice." He was wiggling his eyebrows now live.
I slapped his shoulder playfully while smiling. "Shut up, and tell me if this is okay." I pointed to my outfit. He smiled and nodded but kept his gaze locked with mine. A knock on the door made me jump lightly I turned my head towards the door.
"Yes?" I asked not opening the door.
"Emily I'm off to work. Jake and Matty already left to work. Brody is out with his friends. Are you sure you're going to be okay by yourself? I mean you can go to Tori's if you like." Nate spoke from the other side of the door. I looked at Drake, guilt clearly portrayed on my face. He gave me an understanding look.
"No, I'll be fine." I managed to say without stuttering.
"Okay, call me if you need anything alright? Don't hesitate."
"Okay, thanks Nate. Love you"
"Love you too." I heard his retreating footsteps, I did not move until I heard the front door close.
"I can't do this." I turned to Drake who was now standing close to me.
"Don't worry Emily. Nothing's going to happen to you and you'll be here before them." He looked so cute while he was looking at me expectantly.
I averted my look while thinking. I sighed knowing my answer. "Promise?"
He smiled. "I promise."
"Alright this better be good Hunter." I crossed my arms in front of me trying to look stern but my small smile was giving me away.
"Don't worry Hart; I'll make it worth your while." He smiled that beautiful smile of his. How can I say no to him?
~~~~~
"Oh hell no." I shook my head frantically.
"Come on. Don't be such a baby." Drake held a helmet by his side. The helmet I would be using while riding that dreaded motorcycle of his.
"Why didn't you bring your car?" I complained not moving from my spot on the sidewalk in front of my house.
"It's easier to drive it to where we are going." He shrugged while making me hold the helmet.
"Put it on." He ordered while putting on his leather jacket.
"No." I shoved the helmet to his chest. He took it, gave a long sigh and placed it on the bike.
It's not that I have an unreasonable hatred towards them, like most girls seem to have. No, on the contrary, I used to enjoy riding them until one day Matty thought that it was fun to try to teach me to ride a dirt bike...fun for him! I ended up with bruises and scrapes everywhere, not to mention the hourly speech our mom gave us every time she remembered for being, and I quote, fucking so dumb. Yeah, guess our lady-ness runs in the family.
"You leave me no choice."
I shrieked startled when I realized that he grabbed me and threw me over his shoulder in a second.
"Drake! Put me down!" I hissed trying not to gain the neighbors' attention.
"Too late babe." He sat me on the back of his bike, took the helmet and made me put it on. "Now that's more like it." I glared at him through the slit of the helmet. He smirked and put the visor down. After he put his helmet on, he spoke again. "You better hold on tight." I was mad at him but still held on tight I wasn't going to die today.
He sped up but it wasn't unbearable, but I'm not those kinds of girls who change their mind after riding one of these things. I'm still dead scared of them. I felt when Drake began to slow down. Through one eye I noticed that we were back at the beach but this one's different. I've never been to this side before. There were a lot of big beautiful houses near it. Now that would be nice, to have the beach on your backyard, but only people who were loaded could live here.
"Um, Drake, what are we doing here?" I asked taking my helmet off now that we have stopped and he parked were other motorcycles were.
"One of my friends lives here. He's having a bonfire," he explained while securing his bike and helmets.
Drake placed his hand at the small of my back and walked towards the back of the house. Unlike what I was expecting, there were a few people there. It wasn't crowded or loud. It was just a small gathering of friends. They all greeted him and he presented me to all of them.
"They are really nice," I commented while we sat on a trunk near the fire.
"Expecting a bunch of murderers and thieves?" he joked while bumping his shoulder with mine.
"Well...yeah." Drake chuckled at that. Honestly I was expecting them to be the typical bad boys. It's nice to see they aren't. I sighed and felt relaxed when I dug my feet in the sand.
"Want something to drink?"
"A coke please."
He went to get my drink and I noticed that three of his friends approached me and sat down.
"Hi" The closest to me greeted. He looked like the cute type, blond, blue eyes, broad shoulders, and nice muscles, the type you could present your parents to.
"Hi" I greeted back with a smile. Wouldn't want them to think that I'm, and I quote, an 'uptight bitch'.
"I'm Josh, this is Liam and Daniel," he introduced pointing to the others.
"So you are the famous Emily?" Liam asked he had shaggy black hair and similar features to the other.
"Famous?" I asked incredulously raising an eyebrow. "I wouldn't say that."
"Are you kidding? Drake won't shut up talking about you," Daniel added. He had spiky brown hair and eyes. They all looked the same on the body department. I dare to say that they must all be street fighters also.
"Oh, really? What does he say?" I asked curiously but very interested in their answer.
One of them opened his mouth to answer but Drake beat him to it. "That'll he'll castrate them if they say anything." He sat next to me and gave me the can.
I giggled at his comment. They all had knowing smirks while Drake was giving them a warning look.
"Say what exactly?" I smirked at him. It felt so nice being the one with the upper hand right now. He narrowed his eyes at me but kept quiet.
"So Emily, are you coming Friday night?" Josh asked trying to save his friend.
"Where?" I looked at them confused while Josh looked at Drake the same way.
"The guys are going to fight on Friday and they thought it was a good time to introduce you to what we do," Drake explained.
"You mean go to a street fight?" Drake looked surprised by my question. "Why are you surprised?"
"How do you know they are also fighters?" Drake asked suspiciously.
"Well because of their bod-" I stopped realizing what I got myself into.
"Their bodies? That's what you were going to say right?" Drake finished for me raising an eyebrow.
"Y-yeah I-I mean...well I..." They all had amused expressions clearly enjoying my misery. "Okay, you know what-" I didn't finish my sentence as I stood up making my way to leave.
"Aw, come on Emily, stay. Don't listen to Drake he's just being his usual self," Liam said so I wouldn't leave.
"Yeah, an ass," Daniel added while drinking his beer. They all agreed on that. I laughed a little at that fact.
"I know," I said taking my seat again.
"Fuck, I wonder if I've become invisible," Drake said looking up.
We all kept talking and surprisingly having a good time. I learned that Daniel and Liam have been friends since kids. Josh moved here three years ago and became their friend after being beaten by Daniel, yeah I know. Apparently they took him under their wings and thought him all about street fighting. And Drake, well he met them not long ago while he was watching Liam fight.
"Well, I'll see you guys later. I'm going to show Emily around." Drake stood up and extended his hand to me. I took it and made our way closer to the waves.
"Yeah yeah. If he bothers you, just scream Emily. We'll be right up," Josh yelled now getting everybody's attention while waving like crazy at us.
Drake rolled his eyes and flipped him off. When he turned, he grabbed my hand and we began to walk by the water. When he noticed how my hand was clutching his, he turned to me with a slight frown. I'm not going to lie saying that his words did not affect me but, after a second, I decided to let it go, since I know they know nothing about my past. Drake might have the chance to tell them but I doubt he did.
"Are you okay?" He kept the frown and his eyes were searching mine. I smiled sincerely making some of the worry in his eyes vanish.
"Yes."
"Are you sure? We can go back if you are feeling ill. I wouldn't mi-"
"I'm sure." I bit my lip at how cute he looked worried. Obviously, he had no clue of what made me tense. His reaction was all I needed as reassurance. I knew he didn't anything about my past to his friends.
He didn't look sure but decided to let the subject drop. I was so thankful for it. I didn't want to spoil our night.
Silence fell upon us after that. The music was barely audible right now, and the night was breath-taking. The sky looked beautiful. The moon shone brightly and the stars...there were so many it all was making the water sparkle. I looked at Drake and something was still bothering him.
"You know, you don't have to come if you don't want to." It took me a moment to know he was referring to the fight.
"Why wouldn't I?" I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.
"I'm not sure if I want to drag you to this. Like I said is not safe. There are some crazy people around and you've already come across one of them and you haven't even been there. I swear I would kill anyone who'd hurt you." He looked so troubled and mad. He was blaming himself for everything. This is not his fault. He's not responsible for other's people's actions.
"Drake" I stopped and made him look at me. "I know nothing's going to happen...I trust you."
I held my breath involuntarily for the second time today. The way he was looking at me was scary but at the same time exciting. His eyes darken while looking at every part of my face until he stopped at my lips.
He placed his hands on my hips and pulled me towards him. There were only centimeters between us. I placed my hands on his shoulders looking at him expectantly. He lowered his face until our noses were touching and paused for a moment like asking for permission. What happened next, I couldn't believe.
I kissed him.
--------
And they finally kissed! Well she kissed him, but who cares? :)
