Third Person POV
"Do you want me to come back here after my hiring process is completed?" Jooss asked his new boss.
"No, you don't have to," Up replied, "I just need you to report to my residence tomorrow morning at eight o'clock. My secretary Kao will provide you with my address."
"Very well, sir," Joss said.
"Just call me Up," Up said before turning his attention back to his computer.
Joss made a deep bow before leaving the room,
"I will text you the boss' address," Kao said to Joss as Joss passed by his desk.
"Thank you," said Joss. "By the way, can you tell me a little bit about his personality?"
"He's a good employer," Kao replied. "He may look and act aloof sometimes, but most of the time he's very pleasant."
Joss nodded his thanks and acknowledgement of the information that Kao provided him.
The next day,Joss did not have a hard time finding his employer's residence. He parked his car just outside the massive wrought iron gate.
Joss glanced at his watch. He was half an hour early but he preferred to be early than late.
"Good morning, I'm Joss," Joss introduced himself to the young man who answered his buzz.
"Good morning, I'm Mek," said the young man. "The master told me about you last night. Please come in."
Mek led Joss into he house. It was massive, you could easily get lost in it if you were a newcomer to the place, Joss thought.
Joss followed Mek up a staircase that led to the master's bedroom.
Mek knocked softly on the door before opening it.
He nudged Joss to step inside the room, saying, "He's all yours. Good luck."
With a fast beating heart, Joss approached the bed where his new boss was lying fast asleep.
Joss cleared his throat before saying, "good morning, sir, I'm here to report for work."
When Up did not respond in any way, Joss cleared his throat again and said in a louder voice, "Good morning, sir, I'm here to report for work."
Up finally stirred before sitting up in bed.
"What time is it?" Up asked, squinting at Joss with sleepy eyes.
Joss quickly checked his swatch.
"Seven forty five, sir," Joss replied.
"Who let you into my room before eight o'clock?" Up demanded.
"I'm... I'm... I'm sorry, sir," Joss stammered in a panicked voice. "I thought it was best to report for work earlier than the required time."
"You are not answering my question," Up said grumpily. "Who let you into my room before eight o'clock?"
"He said his name was Mek, sir," Joss replied nervously.
"I will have a talk with him," Up said before getting out of bed. "He knows well enough that I never let anyone into my room before eight o'clock."
Downstairs in the employees' quarters, Mek went inside Poom's room, forgetting to knock in his excitement to tell Poom about the latest development.
"Wake up, sleepyhead," Nek said as he nudged Poom awake. "I just met your replacement."
"What are you talking about?" Poom sat up in bed, pressing two fingers on either side of his forehead because the sudden movement brought a massive headache upon him.
"You heard me," Mek said nonchalantly. "The master has brought in a new all around personal assistant to replace you."
"Temporarily... until you recover, from your illness," Mek added when he noticed the agitated look on Poom's face.
Although Mek had clarified that the arrangement was temporary, Poom could not help feeling a sense of foreboding in his chest.
Upstairs in Up's bedroom, Up was telling Joss that since there wasn't an extra room available for him at the employees' quarters, he was going to let Joss use the guest room which was right next to Up's room.
"I'm not expecting any guests to sleep at my place at this time and it's a temporary situation anyway," Up explained to Joss. "Have you brought in your personal belongings?"
"They're still in the trunk of my car, sir," Joss replied.
"Why don't you bring them in while I take my shower," Up said. "Oh, and I am not going to repeat myself. I prefer to be addressed as Up by my employees."
"Very well, sir... I mean Up," Joss said, bowing before quickly leaving the room to retrieve his personal belongings.
Joss was about to step out of the front door when he realized that he wouldn't be able to open the gate without a remote control.
Joss went looking for Mek and found him busy setting the breakfast table.
"I need to go back to my car to bring my personal belongings in," Joss explained to Mek. "I need the remote control to open the gate."
"You won't need it," Mek said. "On the rightmost side of the gate there is a small door that can be opened manually, Don't you remember that that was how I let you in earlier?"
"Oh," Joss said, suddenly remembering. With too many new things happening, Joss had forgotten about that small detail.
"By the way, where did the boss say you were going to stay?" Mek asked before Joss could leave the breakfast room. "Because there's no vacant room in the employees' quarters at this time," Mek hastened to explain why he had asked the question.
"He has assigned me to the guest room," Joss replied.
Mek averted his face so that Joss would not be able to see his surprised look. Wow, this was another juicy tidbit that he needed to feed Poom with.
