Third Person POV

When Joss entered the first street from the main thoroughfare he stopped in front of the first house from the corner.

There was a middle aged man raking some leaves in his front yard.

"Stay here," Joss said to Up. "I'm gonna talk to him."

The man looked up from raking the leaves when he saw Joss approaching.

"Good morning, sir," Joss said, bowing respectfully. "Would you happen to know someone in this community by the name of Boat?"

"No, sorry," the man said and continued raking the leaves.

"That's fine, sir, sorry for interrupting your work," said Joss, bowing respectfully again.

"He doesn't know anyone by the name of Boat," Joss informed Up as he climbed back inside the car and continued to drive slowly on the narrow street.

Joss stopped at several more houses without success.

As they were about to pass a corner street perpendicular to the one they were on, Up tapped on Joss's shoulder.

"Let's try this street, Joss," said Up. "We might have more luck here."

"Very well," Joss agreed.

The first house that they passed had several loose dogs running around in the front yard.

"I'm not a dog whisperer," Joss said with a wry smile. "I'm not eager to have a leg bitten by one of them."

"Me neither," said Up. "Let's move on.

At the third house, they saw a couple just about to walk into the front yard.

"Let's talk to them," said Up.

Joss immediately stopped the car and approaached the couple who looked like a middle aged husband and wife.

The couple stopped walking when they saw Joss approaching.

Joss bowed respectfully to them before speaking.

"I'm sorry to bother you," Joss began, "but would you happen to know someone by the name of Boat?"

"Why do you want to know?" the woman spoke, studying Joss suspiciously.

"His friend is my co worker and he just recently got out of the hospital and I wanted to know how he's doing," Joss replied, his heart beating fast because his instinct was telling him that he had found the right house at last.

"What's the name of your coworker?" the woman asked, not yet ready to give Joss the information he wanted.

"His  name is Poom Sapsangsawat," Joss replied.

"Come inside," the husband spoke for the first time.

"Is it okay if I let my boss, who is also Poom's employer be the one to come in and talk to Poom?" Joss asked.

"Introduce him to us first," the wife said.

"Very well," Joss said, leaving them to walk to the car where Up was waiting.

"Up, this is the house," Joss said excitedly. "Those are the parents of Boat. They want to meet you first before they will let you into the house."

Up immediately stepped out of the car and walked quickly towards the middle aged couple.

He bowed respectfully to them before speaking.

"Good morning, my name is Up Iam-samang," said Up. "I am the employer of Poom. His friend Boat left a message on my phone saying that he brought Poom with him from the hospital to take care of Poom until he gets better. Is it possible for me to talk to Poom?"

"Sure," the husband replied, motioning for Up to follow him.

Joss remained in the car to wait for Up.

"Best of luck, lover boy," Joss said under his breath as he watched Up enter the house of Boat.

The father stopped at the entrance of the living room.

"My house must look terribly small compared to yours," Boat's father said. "But the occupants here are happy and love one another."

"I don't care about the size of a house," Up responded. "I don't consider a house a home unless the occupants love one another and care for each other."

Suddenly Boat stepped out of a room and entered the living room, looking wide eyed at Up.

"I left you a message on your phone, sir," said Boat.

"Yes, I received your message," said Up. "I have decided that it's better for Poom to recover at my house."

"That's not for you to decide," Boat said defiantly, no longer bothering to hide the hostility in his voice.

"Then can I talk to him and see what he has to say about it?" Up asked, keeping his voice calm and professional.

Boat hesitated before responding, "I don't think he wants to talk to you."

"I have traveled all the way from Bangkok to this village and it took me some time before I found your house," Up said in a persuasive voice. "Could I at least be given a chance to talk to him?"

Up hated how his voice sounded like he was begging, but this was no time to think about his pride. He wanted badly to bring Poom back to his house even if he didn't dare to let Poom know how he felt about him.

Boat hesitated once more before motioning for Up to follow him.

Poom was lying in bed with his eyes closed.

When he heard the footsteps he opened his eyes.

"Master," Poom shot up to a sitting position.

"Easy," Boat said, quickly making Poom lie down again.

"The master is here," Poom said. "I want to sit up while talking to him."
