Wednesday

Wednesday

Theo's heavy footfalls echo through the house as he runs down the stairs. He misses the last step and jumps to the ground. The black bag hanging over his shoulder hits his back, but the collision doesn't seem to faze him.

"Are you sure you're going to be alright?" he questions.

"I'm sure I'll service." I nervously grin. "I will lock everything and avoid answering the door," I say.

"Okay." Theo shrugs his shoulders. "There's a good chance I won't answer my phone at Olivia's house, so call someone else if you need help."

"Great, so I could potentially die because Olivia gets jealous of your phone?" I frown. Is he hearing himself? His only baby sister could be dying and he doesn't care because Theo doesn't want to upset Olivia.

"Yes." He nods his head, a serious look consuming his face.

"Tell her I say hi." I tug on a bright smile.

With a nod, Theo grabs a pair of shoes from the garage and then walks out the front door. I watch through the side window to make sure Theo safely gets into the car and reverses out the driveway. Once he's gone, I lock the front door and proceed to check the rest of the house.

When I feel safe and secure, I take a seat on the couch and play my movie.

I snuggle under the blanket and peer out from the side. If anyone breaks into the house, I'm so screwed. There might be a baseball bat around somewhere, maybe in the garage? Though, I think I might find it just in case.

Getting off the couch, I walk into the garage and flick the light on. I search through boxes until I find the old sporting stuff. There's a metal baseball bat along with a cricket bat and a volleyball net.

Mum and Dad used to make Theo and I play a sport during primary school. Theo played soccer and cricket while I attempted to play volleyball. Dad would set the net and work on my spikes. Then one day, Dad got busy and we put away the sports gear. Thankfully, we still have this metal bat to scare away intruders.

I take the bat and return to the couch and snuggle back under the covers. The shiny bat lays beside the couch which brings me comfort. At least I'll look more terrifying with a metal bat opposed to a floral printed cushion.

After the first movie ends, I put the second one on and retrieve snacks from the cupboard. Surprisingly, there's chips and lollies for me to pick through. Partway through the second movie, I hear a knock on the front door. The sound alone sends me shaking like a leaf.

"Of course this freaking happens to me!" I grumble.

I grab the bat from the ground and hold it in the air as I slowly approach the door. As I peer through the side windows, I can't see in the dark. Like a ninja, I do a roll across the ground and then pop up in front of the door. I look through the peephole and see nothing. Maybe it was the wind?

"Maybe I'm just hearing things?" I mumble.

Walking back to the lounge room, I place the bat down and prepare to get back under the covers. But then there's a knock on the back door. I jump six feet in the air when I see the tall dark man standing there.

"I have a bat," I yell. "I'm not afraid to break balls with it."

"It's me, Leighton," he shouts, arms raised in defense.

"You scared the crap out of me!" I march towards the back door and open it. Leighton steps inside and dumps his bag on the ground.

"Sorry, but you weren't answering the door."

"Theo isn't here anyways, he's gone to Olivia's house." I shiver at the thought.

I'm sure Olivia is a nice girl deep, very deep, keep going, deep inside. She's a perfect angel in front of my parents but a complete maniac to me. What's with that? I tried being nice to her and well, maybe I shouldn't have called her a slag behind her back, still.

"I'm here for you, well, Johnny's car."

"That's tonight?"

"Yes." He nods. "We're being spontaneous and at least Theo won't know you're going out to trash someone's car."

"Good point." I huff.

I place the bat on the chair and walk towards the stairs. As I place my foot on the first step, I hear Leighton calling me.

"What are you going to do?" he asks.

"I'm going to change and collect supplies. I'm sure Theo has a can of shaving foam he doesn't need."

I run up the stairs and into my bedroom. I grab a black hoodie and put on a pair of long pants and joggers. I then go to the bathroom and collect a bottle of hair gel and the shaving foam. As I'm rummaging through the cupboard, I find a packet of condoms and it makes me smile.

Getting Theo back for all his stupid pranks is on the list . . . It's no slime hanging over the door, but it'll do. We're going to be even now! Grabbing the supplies, I toss the condoms into my bedroom and then run downstairs. I stash the stuff in Leighton's bag before locking the back door and turning the telly off.

"Let's go kick butt." I grin.

"Yeah," he shouts excitedly.

Leighton and I walk out the front and get into his car. I give him directions and we drive to Johnny's parent's house. As usual, Johnny's car is parked on the curb. Leighton and I park at the end of the street and begin walking to his house.

"What should I do?" I ask.

"How about I draw a big dick on the windscreen?"

"Yeah, I suppose that'll work."

It only takes us a couple of minutes, then we're standing in front of his car. Leighton hands me his bag and I grab the stuff out. As I go to draw the foam on the windscreen, I take a step back and frown.

"I don't think this is enough," I admit. "He broke my heart and all he gets is a bloody dick on his window screen. I should be shoving a cactus up his ass."

"Not sure I can help with that." He laughs.

"What should I do?"

"Uh." He ponders.

"Fuck it, I'll break his precious car." I put the foam bottle back into the bag and begin searching for a rock. I find one nestled in their perfect garden bed. Leighton comes chasing after me, insisting this is a bad idea.

I shake my head and smile, "This is a perfect idea."

"Are you sure?"

The rock is heavy in my hands but I nod my head. This is perfect. I'll break his car just as he broke my poor heart.

Taking a deep breath, I throw the rock through the driver's window. The car alarm screeches which prompts Leighton to grabs my arm and begins dragging me down the road. We dive into some bushes when their front door opens. I see the short frame of Johnny and his father running outside to assess the problem.

There's a string of cuss words when Johnny sees the smashed window. There's some arguing and then they silence the car and go inside. Leighton and I run back to his car and speed off into the distance.

"That was."

"Stupid," he answers.

"Liberating." I grin. "And you said I should have fun." I flick my hair over my shoulder and poke my tongue out. I'd never have the lady balls to do this until they set me this challenge. I'm thrilled that I've been able to do things I never thought I could.

"Not destroy property," he explains.

"He deserved it, though." I shrug my shoulders.

"You're so bad, Sophia." Leighton chuckles.

"And I like it." I giggle. "I wish I did that agrees before."

"What have I done to you?" Leighton laughs. "You used to be a good girl."

"And now I'm fun." I smile.

"That's very true," he agrees.

I wind down the window and stick my head out. The air rushes through my air and I almost feel like Superman flying through the sky. I see why Theo is always bad, it is somewhat exciting yet liberating at the same time. Being bad doesn't have to be a bag thing, but I suppose it isn't good either?

Regardless, I am happy.

What is something bad, yet liberating, that you've done?
