Sunday

Sunday

I can hear the angry yelling before my parents bash my bedroom door down. A very angry woman storms towards me, a disapproving frown occupying her slender face. In fear, I pull my blanket over my face to hide. Despite the fact I might nearly be an adult, my mother will always terrify me. Like she says, you're never too big to scold.

Are they seriously back already? It feels like I've just closed my eyes to sleep. In fact, where's Leighton, I swear he was with me before. Probably a good thing he isn't here. I don't think they'd like my explanation very much.

"What the hell happened to the house?" shouts Mum. "It's been completely trashed!"

"Ask Theo?" I offer.

Mum nods her head and then walks out of the room. The pair of them launch into Theo's room like a SWATT team ready to kick some ass. I scramble out of bed and walk towards the hallway to watch the interrogation. Despite my participation, Theo better not squeal on me. It was his party after all, what was I supposed to do?

As I rest my back against the doorframe, I see Olivia jumping out of bed and a confused Theo looking around. I hate to bite my lip to stop myself from laughing. Being caught with your half-naked girlfriend in your bed is punishment enough, right?

"Care to explain yourself, Theo?" asks Dad.

"We had a party?"

"We?" Dad asks.

They look at me and I shake my head in defence, "His party."

Am I throwing him under the bus? Yes. Does he deserve it? Yes. I'm only telling the truth, he wanted the party, he organised it, and then he set up and let everyone in. I just happened to be there drinking punch. Despite all of that, I'm still willing to help, I just don't want half the blame for this.

"You're both grounded and you both need to clean the house right now!" yells Dad.

"Olivia, you should go home, I'm sure your parents are worried," says Mum.

A stunned Olivia nods her head, then quickly apologises, "I'm sorry, bye."

Just like the rustling wind outside, she quickly redresses in her outfit and shuffles out of the house. Can't say I'm sad to see her go.

There isn't time to nap, not with the mess to clean. Mum hands us both a garbage bag for the mess while Dad grabs the mop and bucket to wash the floor. It looks like someone's created an indoor pool, just with sticky soda and fruit.

Theo goes outside to collect the rubbish off the grass while I stay inside. I shuffle through the kitchen and lounge room collecting the endless amounts of red cups and bottles before grabbing the mop and bucket.

Since the soda is practically cemented onto the ground, I really have to scrub at it. This job should be for Theo considering he organised this. The rubbish is fine but I'm not scrubbing the floors like poor Cinderella.

With our combined efforts, it only takes Theo and I just over an hour to have the mess cleaned up. Despite our awesome cleaning abilities, this doesn't make them happy. I figured it wouldn't, but it was worth a shot. We'd be in a lot more trouble if Mum's precious Azealia's were damaged. I don't think we'd hear the end of it if those were killed.

Once we're finished cleaning, I head upstairs and flop onto my bed. My body physically relaxes from the gentle touch of the bed. Between drinking and cleaning, my weekend could have gone better. I thought I'd be waking up a new woman or something.

I look at my side table and come face to face with my list. I'm disappointed I didn't complete everything but at the same time, I did take a stab at it. My attempts might not have been the best, but I tried my best. Everything from getting over a fear, trying something new and mending a broken heart. Reading books this summer wouldn't have helped but I think it would have been fun.

Could I really be disappointed with that?

My bedroom window suddenly opens and then a body comes crashing through with a slight bang.

"Shh," I grumble.

Leighton sprawls along the ground, a wide grin on his face.

"What are you doing here?" I ask.

"I wanted to talk," he explains.

"Oh boy." I frown. "What did I do last night?"

"You said you liked me," replies Leighton.

"Sorry about that."

"No, don't be sorry about it. I think I like you too," he confesses.

"Wait, you do?" Did I just hear him right? He might actually like me? I get off the bed and he comes to stand in front of me.

"Yes," he says. "This summer has changed the way I see you."

"Is that bad?" I bite my lip. I'll admit, throwing that rock through the window was a stupid idea, but that's not me as a person. Well, I don't think it is.

"I don't know what you did, but my heart flutters every time I see you, Sophia."

"Really?" I smile.

"When you started dancing with that guy, I just knew I had to tell you," explains Leighton.

"Thank you, Leighton, for everything." Without him, I suppose I wouldn't have started this list, I wouldn't have noticed the fun I could have with Leighton – bed fun or not.

"Just promise me you won't change yourself. The list is a great idea, but I don't want you to rush through things, like sex."

"But?" You'd think Leighton would be jumping at the opportunity to take things to the next level.

"You should have sex when you're ready. Anyone who pressures you is not worth your time. There's living life at the edge of your seat and living life at your own pace, don't get them confused."

"Okay, I promise to think things through," I agree.

"Don't look back at life with regrets, smile because it happens, because you learned, and because you enjoyed the moment," he says.

"Do you know what I'm enjoying now?" I ask.

"What?"

"This moment right now. Do you regret it?" I question.

"I could never regret you." Leighton smiles.

"What about Theo?"

I don't want to keep secrets from my brother, even if he's a pain in the butt. Leighton is his best friend and I don't want to put him in a compromising position. We shouldn't have to keep secrets from Theo.

"I'm sure he isn't going to like it," says Leighton.

"He'll have to get over it."

"True." Leighton nods his head.

"What next?" I ask.

Leighton grabs my face in his hand and kisses me hard. We fall onto my bed and I wrap my arms around his neck. I'm glad I haven't ticked off everything, just means there's more fun to come in the future.

What is something you should regret but don't?
