Jungkook stood there still. Totally paralyzed.
He wanted to burst the door open and kick Hoseok's butt and demand an explanation, which better be a good one, but Jimin's voice echoed in the back of his head: "You're in no position to interfere with Taehyung's love life any more."
It pained him, but it was true. Jungkook had already rejected Taehyung (as stupid as he was for doing so) and he couldn't possibly know he'd change his mind when he made it pretty clear he wanted their relationship to come to an end. But he didn't.
Instead of marching inside, he backed away and started walking back to campus. On the way, he bumped into Taehyung's older brother and his fiancé.
"Hey, what's up mate?" Namjoon greeted him with a high-five, though Jungkook rejected it as he didn't notice it when he kept his head down.
"How are you Jungkook?" Seokjin asked though Jungkook couldn't even manage to look them in the eyes. "Are you okay? Did something happen?"
A tear streamed down his cheek as he stared down at the ground between them. "Taehyung and I are over. Completely over," he managed to press out.
"Over?" Namjoon repeated. "But he loves you. He kept on telling me how much he looked forward to coming back home and see you again."
Jungkook shook his head. "He and Hoseok...kissed."
That made the two elder males' expression turn from calm to angry.
"He did what? Namjoon roared.
"Why would he do that?" Seokjin asked as if it was he who had been cheated on. Though Jungkook wasn't either. He and Taehyung weren't even in a relationship anymore.
"He didn't do anything wrong," Jungkook defended him, "we're not together. I was just surprised. I wanted to take him back. I went to tell him how much I love him and no matter how hurt I was, I still want him back. I can't let him go, but he's already getting over me."
He choked back his tears whilst the elder males were staring at him astonished.
"I can't believe Hoseok's doing this again," Namjoon muttered, clenching his first. "I need to go over and have a chat with them."
"A calm chat," Seokjin implied as he watched his boyfriend march away, leaving him alone with the broken boy. "Let's get back to your dorm, Jungkookie."
The elder accompanied the student back to his room, and, of course, Chanyeol was still there.
"Damn, you just keep the boys coming, don't you?" he teased, though his smug grin disappeared when receiving the glare from the eldest.
"You must be Jungkook's lovely roommate I've heard all good things about," he remarked sarcastically.
"Well, can't stop him from not being able to stop talking about me and my charms," he kept on joking.
"Real charmer," Seokjin said but decided to ignore him as he joined the unstable boy in the bathroom. "Jungkookie, are you okay?"
"Do I look okay?" he asked as he stared at the elder. He had forced himself to not cry as much as earlier, but he couldn't stop grimacing and showing the agony on his face.
"Honestly, you look absolutely heartbroken."
Jungkook forced out a snort. He wondered what Namjoon would be saying to Taehyung. Would he be on his side, or would he support his brother instead? It was hard to guess; Namjoon had been a good friend to Jungkook, as well as very supportive. He kept on telling him how he thought Taehyung was making a mistake when he left. If anything, he was on Jungkook's side, and he's always been. He was a nice man, he really was, and Jungkook really appreciated his close friend.
"What do you think Namjoon hyung is telling Taehyung?" he asked his older friend.
"Hopefully just talking calmly, but I doubt it. He's always calm, but when he's arguing, he's super loud and very straight-forward," Seokjin explained. "He always tries to win our arguments anyway."
"Has he won any?"
"Hell no!" Seokjin denied as he grinned. "He doesn't stand a chance against me."
Jungkook couldn't help but grin as he let out a light giggle. "Sounds like you, hyung," he agreed.
Seokjin nodded proudly. "He picks fights over the stupidest things, but I always win. Though I suspect he does it on purpose as well, as he doesn't like to fight, but he mainly does it when I'm feeling down or are upset, just to get my mind off things," he explained.
Jungkook smiled. "That's sweet," he said.
"Well, I would prefer to get flowers or chocolate, but he decides to fight." He giggled to himself. "But it has become a way of him sharing his affection. He's done it for as long as I've known him, though he doesn't do it with anyone else."
"It's because he loves you, hyung," Jungkook with a sweet smile. "It's cute."
"What about you?" the elder asked. "What do you or Taehyung do? Or did?"
Jungkook's smile dropped. "I used to tell him how much I loved him. And he used to ruffle my hair. His excuse for it was because he liked it so much and if felt soft between his fingers. He loved touching my hair."
"You do have soft hair," Seokjin agreed.
The memories of his relationship with Taehyung made him almost tear up again, but he held back. He tried to seem stronger when Seokjin was with him; he didn't want to appear as weak as he felt.
"Namjoon just texted me," Seokjin announced, "he's asking us to come."
"Us?" Jungkook asked. "Both of us?"
Seokjin rolled his eyes. "Yes, both of us. Now let's go."
Jungkook didn't want to enter. He knew what was about to happen; he could sense the angry aura even from outside, and he knew exactly whom was giving it out.
"Jungkook, come on. Don't be such a chicken," the elder said as he grabbed him by the arm and marched straight inside.
The first thing Jungkook saw was Taehyung's gaze burning on him when they walked inside. He felt himself shrink.
"Okay, will someone start to talk already?" Seokjin asked after no one said a word since they arrived.
"Yeah, let's start," Taehyung said, his voice sounding really angry. "Jungkook, why don't you start?"
Jungkook jumped slightly by the sudden address. "Uhm, say what, exactly?"
"Well, how about the reason you came here, for starters."
"I was dragged here," he said stupidly.
"No!" Taehyung suddenly yelled. "Why you were here in the first place! Were you spying on us?" He was glaring hard at the younger.
"Spying?" he asked. "No. I was here because I wanted to talk to you."
"To talk?" Taehyung asked. "We've been talking all day. What more could you possibly have to say to me? You made it pretty clear I should forget about you and us."
Jungkook felt ashamed. He did that. But he regretted it so much. He didn't feel in any position to put Taehyung through more pain and stress.
"I came because..." He stopped himself.
"Because?"
"Because I have something of yours I thought you'd like to have back," he lied. He just couldn't tell him.
"And what is that?" Taehyung asked, not looking too convinced. Namjoon and Seokjin also exchanged weird looks before frowning at Jungkook.
The raven-haired had to think for a second. "Your beanie," he said, "the purple one. I know it's your favourite."
Taehyung's face dropped. "Yeah," he said, almost in a whisper, "you got it now?"
"No. Forgot it in my dorm."
Taehyung nodded. He didn't look at Jungkook anymore. His sour grimace had rather turned into a sad frown.
"Okay, but this doesn't change the fact that you and Hoseok kissed," Seokjin continued after seeing Jungkook didn't say anything else. "He was devastated when Namjoon and I found him near his campus after witnessing the two of you."
Taehyung frowned at Jungkook, but he avoided his gaze. "Why?" he asked.
"That's what I'm asking you!" Seokjin tried again.
"No!" Taehyung said again, "why would he be so upset with it?"
"Are you stupid?" Namjoon suddenly butted in. "Even if your relationship is over doesn't mean his feelings disappear just like that. How would you feel if you witnessed him kissing someone else?"
Taehyung stiffened. "Not good," he muttered.
"Exactly."
"Jungkook." The said male jumped a bit as someone behind him suddenly called his name. "Can we talk?"
He hesitated. Jung Hoseok wanted to talk, but he didn't trust himself for not losing it and punch him. But he ended up nodding anyway and followed him to his bedroom whilst the others remained in the lounge.
"I heard you saw us," he started, which made Jungkook clench his jaw. That made Hoseok flinch.
"Are you still in love with him?" he asked straight-forward.
Hoseok's eyes flickered. "No, I'm not. Taehyung is a good childhood friend whom I care deeply for, but my feelings for him are long gone."
Jungkook grunted. It wasn't really on purpose, but it still scared the elder.
"I was comforting my hurting friend," he continued.
"With your lips?" Jungkook questioned. "I sure as hell don't comfort my friends like that."
"Look, it was a mistake - "
"So you lead him on?" the student asked.
Hoseok stared at him speechless. "What?"
"If you don't have feelings for him and it didn't mean anything to you. Do you lead Taehyung on? Playing with him when he's vulnerable?"
Hoseok panicked slightly.
"I know you're still in love with him, Hoseok hyung. I'm not mad at you for still loving him. But kissing him? Even if Taehyung and I have broken up, the last thing he needs right now is more drama and stress."
The elder stood there, completely still. "You're right," he finally said. "You're right. What I did was wrong and unnecessary. I'm sorry."
"Well, I'm not really the person you should be apologising to, now am I?"
He nodded. "You're right."
