Chapter 9

Mina's POV--

First dates.

Just hearing those two words gives me goosebumps.  Sure, I've had...boyfriends before but never once did I actually go on a date.  I was always under the 'protection' of Kai.  He made sure that under no circumstances, a boy would not 'hurt', 'treat', or even 'look at' me or Mikki indecently.  So no.

I've never been on one of these.

What should I do?

I stole a glance towards Jaehyo.  He was smiling, walking casually beside me as we headed towards our destination.  In a way, I sort of envied him.  He had confidence, smiling even when the skies were grey.

I kept my hands to my sides.  They were balled into fists, because frankly, I had no idea what I was doing.

What should I say?

Should I even say anything at all?

Should I--

Jaehyo placed his hands on my shoulders, and tilted my chin up to face him.  He flicked his head to the side to get the bangs out of his face and his eyes bore into mine.

Way to make me self-conscious.

"W-w-what are you d-doing?"  I stuttered, trying not to move.

His eyes gleamed as the corners of his mouth formed into a mischievous sideways smile.  "You're nervous?"

"N-no.."

He raised his brow.

I sighed in defeat.  "Okay, maybe...yes.  Is that better?"

"Much,"  He smirked, gently kissing my forehead.  "Now I know why you were so quiet."  He laughed.  "I was worried for a moment."

I tried to hide the smile forming, but it didn't work.  I bet I looked like a dork at that moment.  As we continued walking, Jaehyo grabbed my hand and entwined our fingers together.  I don't know why, but everytime we're close like this, it sends me in a frenzy.  My stomache feels like it does a 180 flip while me heart feels like it's going to explode.

Wait... Is that normal?

No... I don't think it is.  Aigoo, what's wrong with me?

"So what's the plan for tonight?"  I bit my lip to stop it from quivering.  I really don't understand why I'm this spazzy.  I'm never this spazzy, right?

I could already imagine Min belting in laughter as we discussed my spazzy behaviour.

"Well first, I'm going to take you out to eat, then to a secret hideout."  I raised my brow as he started chuckling.

"Is that what you do with all your dates?"  I teased, suddenly getting a bit confident.

He blinked, a bit taken back, but then his smile returned.  "No, usually I don't get rejected this much, so...this date's special."

I pressed my lips together.  I have to admit, I felt a little guilty.  And then the questions started.

"So... Why did you keep rejecting me?"  He asked all of a sudden.  His grip on my hand tighted.

I took a breath slowly and watched how it effected the late December air.  "Dating Idols... I've never seen any use to it before.  I've been around them my whole life, so I didn't want to get even more caught up in it..  It's dramatic."

"And overwhelming," He added.  I grinned, now he understands.

"I've dated guys before they were Idols, and after.  It all ends the same.  Paparazzi gets involved, add in some crazy fan wars, and boom.  The drama has begun."  I let out a humorless chuckle.  "Plus, being an 'Idol' runs in the family, so that's too much drama for me."

We stayed quiet, not knowing what else to say.  My mom was an Idol, before she had me, that is.  And most of my relatives on her side are or were Idols also (I.E. Kwonnie).  My dad's family were mainly into the music department, and my dad's new business is an entertainment company.

"Well, for me it'll be different."  He chuckled.  "I'm going to make this work, no matter what."  He pressed his lips to the back of my hand and I blushed.

We went to a cozy restaurant downtown.  The Lovett, I think that's what it was called.  The place was warm and inviting, almost a homey feeling.  And then the food...

Oh sweet mercy, the food was like heaven.

I'm a food fanatic, and after I ate, sadly I had a fangirl moment.  Jaehyo laughed at my sillyness and then another question arised.

"So earlier today... Why were they freaking out when they thought you had cooked?"

I could feel the heat rising to my cheeks.  I chuckled nervously.  "There... there was an accident last time.."

"Like?"  He pressed on, fully curious now.

"I'm known as a lethal chef,"  I smiled with embarrassment.  "I can't cook very well-- okay, I can't cook at all.  And the one time that they trusted me to cook, I got baking power mixed up with sugar and kind of exploded the Kitchen...  They've never let it go since..."

He looked at me, waiting for me to continue.  He bit down on his lip, trying to supress his laughter.  Not very well, I might add.

"It's not that funny!"  I justified, slightly laughing at his reaction.

"I know, you're right."  He smirked, finally composing himself.  "It's freaking hilarious."

After we left the restuarant, something caught my eye.

"W-wait!"  I said quickly to Jaehyo as I trotted over to a building.  This was it!  I found it!

"What are you doing?"  Jae asked.  I just smiled, pointing to the sign in the window.

"Mikki's been looking for a place to rent out."  I explained.  "She wanted to open a cafe, and if she couldn't find a place soon, her dad was going to take her back with him."

I quickly took a picture of the sign and of the building, smiling as I did so.  Feeling accomplished, I slipped my hand back into his as we made our way to the last destination.

The Secret Hideout.

"How much farther is this place?"  I asked.  Jaehyo had put a blind fold to cover my eyes and was leading me to my unknown doom (I'm not going to lie, I'm really skeptical right now).

"We're almost there,"  he chuckled, placing his hand on the small of my back.  When he untied the blind fold, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

The Christmas lights, the smell of the nearby food venders (yes, I did mention food again), and the glow from the stars.

We were looking over at the whole city.

"Do you like it?"  He asked, wrapping his arms around me in a backwards hug.

"Jae... I love it."  I said breathlessly.  He sighed in relief, bringing me closer to him.

I could sense he was smiling causing me to smile as well.

"Now I have one more question,"  He whispered.  "Will you be my girl friend?"
