Chapter 29
"Daddy...?" My voice cracked as I stared at the man in front of me. My actual father was a slim Japanese-Chinese man in his late 40s with a jolly smile and tears to his eyes when he saw me.
"Minako." He looked at me longingly as I ran to hug him. This was the first time I've seen him in years. Shocked, happy, excited, those words couldn't even explain how happy I was hugging my father. When we pulled apart, the tears were coming down fast. He was sobbing as much as I was, causing a small smile to appear on my face.
"Appa," I smiled in joy, wiping his tears. "I've missed you."
He hugged me tighter.
"I've missed you too. How's Minato?"
"Min? He's doing great, but what are you doing here?"
He wiped at his eyes quickly, pulling two pieces of paper out of his pocket. He handed it to me and as I read the contents, my jaw dropped in disbelief.
The first one was a letter. The paper stated the custody rights over Min and I and how my father could get us back. It was fully detailed, down to the root of it all. And the second, was the actual court dated and signed papers. My eyebrows narrowed, but my eyes were glassy.
The letter was dated 7 months ago... around the same time that I told Jaehyo about my situation.
"I'm sorry it took so long," he explained. "I had to track everything down myself and finding you two had to be the hardest part."
I smiled.
"Daddy, it's alright. But... Do you know who sent this to you?"
He blinked. "It didn't say... All that was signed was a simple letter J."
I felt my eyes water again as I clamped my hand over my mouth. Did Jaehyo really do all this? For me?
"Is something wrong?"
I shook my head, hugging him tightly.
"It's nothing, I just missed my Appa."

The day I was released from the Hospital made me smile like never before. Min and I were moving in with dad, it was about two towns away, but it's in the city. I'd be away from here and hopefully everything will get better. No distractions, no Jaehyo... Hopefully. Hopefully everything will get better.
I laid in my room over at Mikki's, taking in the memories. I was supposed to be packing, but I couldn't concentrate.
He was on my mind.
I slipped on an oversized hoodie to hide my stomach and some stretchy jeans. I tied my hair into a ponytail, applied light make up, and slipped out of the house before anyone noticed. I know I shouldn't be doing this, but I felt like I had to.
He reunited me with my dad.
Other than the two little dots in my womb, that was the next best thing.
I made my way up the familiar steps of the apartment complex and knocked on the 3rd door on the 4th floor. I was nervous. Would he talk to me? What if he wasn't there?
When the door opened, Zico looked at me with wide eyes.
"What are you doing here? Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
I smiled, kinda relieved he was worried. He didn't shove me away, so that's a good sign, right?
"You're blonde now." I stated, noticing how nice the colour looked on him. He chuckled.
"Yeah, it's for our comeback, Nanrina. So why are you here?"
"I need to talk to Jaehyo."
Zico raised his brow. I jutted my lip out in a pout, making him groan in defeat. He held up one finger, signaling to wait for one minute. Soon, I heard his voice. I missed it...
"What- Zico- Stop pushing me!"
When Jaehyo stepped outside, his eyes widened when he saw me, but didn't scream. He looked like he was doing better, I'm glad he was.
"Hello," I said shyly.
"What do you want?" His tone was quiet, but he didn't look at me. I did something risky. Wrapping my arms around him, I told him about my dad. I thanked him. It took a minute, but slowly Jaehyo wrapped his arms around me, hugging me like he used to. He rested his chin ontop of my head as he listened to me talk.
"Jaehyo, I'm sorry I hurt you. I'm sorry I didn't hear you out and let you explain, but I understand now and I'm sorry." I bit my lip, my head was pressed against his chest and I could her the faintness of his heart beats. "I'm sorry for not explaining myself too. I...I didn't try to kill myself because of you, I want you to know that. I did it to end the nightmares and pain of that night."
I felt him tense as I mentioned the past.
"You were the best thing that had happened to me. And I wanted to tell you that I love you," I pulled away from the hug, looking at his hopeful eyes. I leaned in on my tip toes and kissed him for the last time. Jaehyo cupped my face, holding one hand on my waist as we kissed. All the passion, all the love, it was still there. I felt it linger on my lips as we pulled away.
"But I think we should end things before it gets worse."
Jaehyo's hopeful eyes soon turned dim, but he nodded in understanding. He brought me back for another hug and I heard his heart beat again. It was rapid.
"I figured this would happen, but it's for the best." His voice sounded relieved but his eyes looked sad. I turned to leave, but he grabbed my wrist, spinning me into his arms. He held me tightly, making me afraid that he could feel my stomach, but he didn't say anything. "I'll miss you," he said quietly into my hair. We stayed there in each other's arms, my head was resting against his chest and his rested on top of mine. I'm going to miss this. I'm going to miss him. I closed my eyes, hugging him tightly.
He placed a gentle last kiss on my forehead.
"Saranghae, Kim Mina."
My eyes brimmed. I took in his image, hoping to never forget him. But then again, I don't think I can forget someone like him. Sometimes, people are meant to fall in love, but are not meant to be together...
"N-nado," I whimpered. I promised myself I wouldn't cry.
"Nado Saranghae, Ahn Jaehyo."
This is goodbye.
This is the end.
I love you Jaehyo, and I always will.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Nado Saranghae, Ahn Jaehyo."
Taeil listened through the door as Mina's footsteps retreated. He knew he shouldn't have eavesdropped but he couldn't help himself. He had just listened to his best friend let the love of his life go....and Jaehyo still doesn't know....
Taeil opened the door, looking at Jaehyo who had tears to his eyes. He hugged him. Then led him back inside to his room.
"Why'd you just let her go?"
Jaehyo wiped at his eyes.
"It was for the best right?" He said unsurely. Jaehyo looked up, trying to prevent more tears from falling, then sighed.
"No," Taeil stated point blankly. "It wasn't. You two need each other! She's--"
Taeil stopped himself, taking a deep breath.
"She's what?" Jaehyo looked at him skeptically.
Taeil made him sit down, then looked up. I'm sorry, but I have to break our promise...
"She's still pregnant." He muttered quietly. "She lied to you because she didn't want to burden you even more, she lied because she didn't want you two fighting anymore... Dude, you're gonna be a father and if you don't hurry up and go after her, you'll never be able to see them. All three of them."
Jaehyo eyes widened, but no words could come out of his mouth. He grabbed his jacket, rushing down the stairs to catch up with her.
But she was nowhere in sight.
He ran to Mikki's, banging on the door. When she opened it, her eyes narrowed into slits. She tried slamming the door in his face, but he pried the door, before it slammed shut.
"Where's Mina?!"
"Why do you wanna know creep!" Mikki shouted, struggling to close the door.
"Because she's carrying my children!"
Mikki rolled her eyes, stepping out if the way and watching as Jaehyo toppled into her house.
"Where is she?"
"She's moving." Mikki spat, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Where to?"
"She's going back to America," Mikki lied. Jaehyo's face immediately dropped.
"Didn't she tell you?" Mikki egged on, her words laced with venom and lies. "She's going to put them up for adoption over there, since most of America adores Asian babies-"
"Why would she--"
"Because you didn't seem to care! Don't you remember? Or was Hwani really that distracting-"
"Shut up!" Jaehyo shouted as he clamped his hands over his ears. He couldn't take it anymore. He ran out of that house, tears to his eyes as he ran. He went back to his place, a sobbing mess as he collapsed onto his bed.
He was going to find them.
No matter what.
Mina, wherever you are, don't give up. Please.. Don't give up on them.
Don't give up on us.
---------------------------------------------------
Mina stepped out of her room. She had heard everything.
"Why'd you tell him that?"
Mikki turned to face her, her expression was blank.
"I'm tired of seeing my best friend hurt. I'm done with his shit, and so should you."
"But Mik-"
"Stop," she said. "I know you love him, but it's for the best. I don't want him to hurt you anymore because I love you too. You're like my little sister and with him in the picture, it'll just be worse for all three of you."
Mina didn't say anything as tears rose in her eyes. Mikki embraced her, holding her tightly as she cried on her shoulder. Mina truly loved him, but she understood where Mikki was coming from.
All the fighting, the cheating.. It wouldn't be good for the children, or for Mina at that.
When Mikki let go of the hug, she led Mina into her room to collect the last of the boxes and fill it in her car. Mikki hugged Mina one last time, reassuring her that she's find someone better, someone great, but that only made Mina's chest hurt.
She didn't want something better.
Heck, to her nothing was.
She just wanted Jaehyo.
The car ride from Mikki's house to Mina's new house was about 3 hours away, but the city scape was an amazing view. Mina stepped out of the car, her hands on her stomach as she looked up at the clear sky.
"Mommy loves you," she said quietly, lightly patting her stomach.
"And so does Daddy. Daddy loves you two very much, but he's gone now," Mina's eyes brimmed one last time as she hugged herself. "Mommy will love you twice as much to make up for it okay?"
"I'll love you, forever and always."
