Epilogue
"Hey Dad, look!"
I raised my head from the book I was reading. Harrison smiled at me as he held out his hand. I raised an eyebrow and tilted my head slightly to the side.
"Is that... Supposed to be a pen?" I asked.
He nodded vigorously. I sighed and shook my head as I tossed the object in the bin. I took a quill from my desk and transfigured it. Harrison was still grinning at me.
"I guess it's time to buy you a wand of your own," I said.
"Really!? For like real real!"
Harrison's hyperactive personality always managed to make me smile. Sometimes I felt bad for the things I had done. The secrets I kept from my son. I went and changed while Harrison did the same. I wasn't going to send my son to Hogwarts, but even just buying a few things never hurt anyone.
"Dad, look! Isn't she cute!" Harrison bounced on his feet.
"How do you know it's a she?" I asked.
"She told me."
I felt a sense of pride build in me. Maybe I would send my son to Hogwarts after all. It just depended on what I planned to do next. I bought the little snake for my son, and we finally made it to Olivander's. Harrison was a little scared at first but quickly became very excited again.
Finding his wand was a mission itself. I'm pretty sure he destroyed half the shop before finding the right one. Honestly, I blame the stupid old man for giving my son inferior wands. It was his fault, yet I still gave him a few extra galleons for repairs. No way I'm letting my son feel guilty for that shit.
"Hey dad, tell me another story about mom."
"Not now Harrison. When we get home, maybe." I sighed.
Harrison pouted but nodded his head. His tiny hand gripped onto mine as I lead us into Knock Turn Alley. Not really a place for kids but I needed something, and that snivelling shopkeeper should have it. I made a beeline for the store making sure I could still feel my son's hand.
Much like in school people still feared me. Unlike in school, they knew exactly what would happen if they crossed me. Still, I would not make my son an easy target. My... Line of work wasn't exactly something my kid should be punished for.
"Mas..." I shot the shopkeeper a deadly look. "Mister Riddle. How nice to see you again. This must be the young heir Riddle."
"Do you have it?" I asked.
"Yes sir. Right away." He scurried off to the back of the store.
Harrison was pulling at my hand trying to get free. I'll be damned if I let those vultures get a hold of him though. The shopkeeper returned with a smile and handed me my package. I grunted a goodbye and left. The sooner we got home the better. Besides I couldn't control Harrison for long.
As my son grows, he gets more powerful. I've never been prouder in my life. He's like a stick of hyperactive dynamite waiting for his fuse to be lit. His ability to do wordless magic is amazing and his wandless magic is interesting. He's got his mother's persistence, energy and her beautiful blue eyes. Maybe that's why I haven't quite gone completely crazy yet.
"Dad! What is in this journal?"
"Open it and see." I shrugged.
He frowned but opened it nonetheless. His frown increased when he saw nothing. With a questioning gaze, he looked up at me. I gestured for him to come to my desk. He watched patiently as I wrote in it. His eyes widening with surprise when my words disappeared, and new words were formed.
"How?" Harrison asked me.
"Why don't you ask." I shrugged and handed him the journal.
I hadn't touched the thing since Alicia died. Still, I couldn't bring myself to throw it away. It was a bittersweet gift as it left me aching for the love that I lost. I had spent hours watching as we fell in love and all it did was break my heart.
"My Lord."
"Lucius, what have I told you about calling me that in my home." I hissed quietly.
"My apologies sir." Lucius bowed. "It's just that I was told of a prophecy that might involve you. I don't know exactly what was said but Dumbledore..."
"If it involves that old fool then I will not put much stock into it. That man knows his end is near and will do anything to avoid it." I waved Lucius off.
"But it speaks of a child." Lucius insisted.
"Find out what it says then." I sighed.
Lucius bowed and disappeared. I sighed again and leaned back in my seat. That old fool thought he could just get rid of me since he no longer wanted to use me. Unless he was looking to get me to kill more people. This time I wasn't going to do it. I was tired of living a double life.
*~*~*
I walked up to the library where I was certain Harrison would be. Lucius was following close behind me. I opened the door to see books floating in the air around a hunched over figure on the floor. The sight alone made me smile.
"Harrison." He looked up at me and smiled. "I have to go for a while, I'll be back for dinner so don't worry."
"Is that why Uncle Lucius is here?" Harrison asked.
I nodded my head.
"What about Draco and..."
"They're at home." Lucius said.
Harrison shot up from his seat and rushed over to me. He hugged me and smiled again. I was glad that I decided to home school him before he was old enough for Hogwarts. The thought of Dumbledore getting his hands on my innocent son made me angry. I would not have that so I had to make sure he was prepared for it.
"Finish your homework. I'll check it when I get back." I said.
Harrison nodded and went back to his spot. I walked out with Lucius and he apparated us over to his house. A soon as I walked into the dining room everyone went quiet. I didn't have time to waste. I trusted my son, but I never liked leaving him alone. I walked up to the woman and stared into her eyes.
"Tell me the prophecy you told Albus Dumbledore." I ordered.
"I... I..." She stammered and swallowed hard. "I told him of a boy who had the power to be the greatest wizard of all time. One more powerful than the Half-Blood heir of Slytherin."
"And?" I deadpanned.
"And he told me to lie." I could see the surprise in her eyes.
"You gave her Veritaserum?" I asked Severus.
"Yes sir." He said proudly.
"How pointless." I sighed. "Who is the old man hoping I'll go and kill this time?"
"Lily and James Potter. The child of the prophecy had actually been born years ago. He'll be a Ravenclaw. A descendant of House Slytherin and House Ravenclaw." She shook in her seat. "He asked me for names but I couldn't give him any. I told him that the boy would be born a Half-Blood."
"Sir." Severus was standing next to me. "You can't kill her. Please. Anyone else just..."
I rolled my eyes at him. "You're not making any sense woman. If you value your life you better start."
"The prophecy I gave Albus didn't last very long. He wanted information that I didn't know so I had to fill in the blanks." She said. "Born as a Half-Blood. A descendant of two great houses. He'll have power greater than that of the Heir of Slytherin. Born as a Half-Blood and raised by light."
"Well then. Let's kill a family." I deadpanned.
They all nodded although I could tell Severus was apprehensive. The Lestrange brothers left first. I knew they would meet me at the house. Lucius took the woman away as Severus left. I pinched the bridge of my nose. Of course the old fool would jump to conclusions and make assumptions.
I was now standing outside of the house. I knew the targets of this made-up prophecy were inside. I knew that because I was the one who had gaven them this house. Lucius and the twins were next to me now. The twins held tight grips on the people they brought with them.
I walked into the house and was greeted with a smile. Lily offered me tea and James offered me some beer. I shook my head at both of them - getting straight to the point. Lily nodded her head understanding. There was one more thing I needed to ask of them. One more thing that would cause a few issues.
"I need you to leave Hayden here." I said.
"What!?" They yelled.
"I understand your reluctance, but he will be returned to you. I cannot kill people I consider friends, so I decided to do them a favour instead." I waved at the twins.
They removed the bags from the heads of the captives. The muggles struggled against them still trying to get free. They tried to beg but their voices were obscured by the gags. Lily shot up in place, her eyes wide with surprise.
"Tom..."
I cut Lily off. "All you and James need to do is transform into them. Go live in their house. Take care of their kid. They will die here tonight, and Hayden will remain in his crib with nothing more than a scar. Dumbledore will take him and give him back to you. He will expect you to raise him and he will believe me to be dead. Bested by the power of your sacrifice."
"She's my sister, Tom!" Lily defended.
"She's also been a pain in your side. Two birds with one stone. I'm tired of that old fool. I just want a peaceful life with my son. The prophecy Dumbledore got wasn't very clear. I believe that the child mentioned is actually Harrison not Hayden." I sighed.
Lily nodded her head slowly. "Very well."
I smiled at her. The twins took Lily and James back to her sister's house. Lucius cast the spell that turned the muggles into look-a-likes. While I went to see my godson.
"Hey, little man. I'm sorry about this but I don't have much of a choice. It's for your own safety really." I sighed.
Hayden never cried as I picked him up. Even when I pulled out a blade and scarred him. He just looked at me curiously. It reminded me so much of when Harrison had been found and stopped crying. When I held my own son in my arms.
I set Hayden back into his crib as Lucius walked towards us with the Lily replacement. I sighed as I shot the killing curse at her. I walked away as Lucius staged the scene and I heard Hayden start to cry. I was angry hearing that little boy cry like that. Knowing that he'll never forget the sight of me killing someone.
Not even my own son had seen me do such a thing. I took my anger out on the ground floor. When I was done the place looked horrible. The muggle taking James' place was left broken at the bottom of the stairs. This was it. It was over. Lucius would come down and place James's wand on the man. I sighed and apparated back to my house.
