Chapter 3: Hide Your Love Away

Joey Stamper was heading down the highway, headed back to Nashville. It was strange that Music City was now his home. He hadn't been down there very long, but so far becoming the newest addition of a band called Anthem Lights had been quite the adventure.

Right now the not so blue moon of Kentucky was shining down on the lonely road. Not that he had really expected to see much traffic on the way back from Ohio. Especially this late at night. The last vehicle he had met had been so many miles back that he couldn't remember if he had been in Kentucky or Ohio.

With a bored sigh, he started tapping away at the steering wheel to an imaginary beat in his head, and belted out words as they came to his mind. So maybe this wouldn't make it to the next album, but at least it helped to pass the time.

Why did driving have to take so much time? He had been back to his parent's home to visit and take a few things back to the apartment he shared with another Nashvillian. Seriously, teleportation would be the coolest thing. Why hadn't they invented that yet. Or for that matter hoverboards like in Back To The Future 2! Scientists only had roughly two years from now to get on that ball and get it rolling in the floating direction. Chop chop!!!

What had he been thinking? To be perfectly honest he was entirely sure. Oh well. Must not be too important.

Then at a seemingly random moment, a song and behind the song had popped into his mind. The song was "Hide Your Love Away" and the words that he and the other guys had said on the behind the song still stuck with him. Even though that had been in February. The day before Valentine's Day to be exact. It was like it had been yesterday.

He still couldn't get over how crazy it was that there was a girl out there worth fighting for. Worth waiting for. That wasn't the crazy part really though. It was that God had created them in mind for one another. His future wife was out there somewhere. And even though some might not comprehend it, his heart belonged to her already. Who ever she is. Where ever she is. "I'm not afraid to say I'm waiting." Joey whispered into the quiet of his car.

Suddenly, Joey's mind cuts away from these deep heart felt thoughts that make him peaceful and smile to the core of his soul. The reason just so happened to be his ringing phone. He answered the phone with a quick tap to the headset his Mom had insisted he wear on the way back down south.

Joey let out a sigh. His thoughts from just moments ago felt like treachery. This was his girlfriend calling. Shouldn't he be thinking that she was the woman that God had planned for him??? Another obnoxious ring cuts through the thoughts, "Hey..." Joey says reluctantly into the phone.

Before Joey could say anything else, a scream of surprise escaped his lips a figure that could have been a ghost, or maybe an angel, stepped into the road. Long white dress, brown hair, she spun around and faced Joey's oncoming headlights. The shocked expression in her eyes mirrored that of a deer in the headlights. And she was frozen in his lane. He jerked the steering wheel, right as she leaped out of the way.

"Babe? You there?" Charlotte's, his girlfriend, voice came through the headset. He'd forgotten she was still on the line. All he could picture was one thing. Her. The girl in the road.

"I think.... I gotta go. We can talk later." He ended the call, knowing he would catch her frustrations later. But he had to try going back. He finally found a spot to turn around and headed back the way he had just came from. Had to see if he could find the girl.
