Chapter Five
Vi pulls up on the dirt path heading to the open field basically in the middle of nowhere. It was a few miles out of town, where there was a single barn and a pasture in the distance somewhere nearby. Most of this land was owned by the state and not really claimed by anyone living here.
So, it was pretty much the hang out spot for the underaged. Sometimes the community college students used it as well when they got tired of going to where most college people chilled. But it wasn't very often that happened.
And the local police didn't really care that we hung out here doing all kinds of dumb shit. As long as it wasn't bothering or hurting anyone, they pretty much turned a blind eye to all our illegal pastimes.
I get out of the back seat as the two girls slam their doors. Looking around at the huge bonfire in the center, beer kegs all over the place, with already halfway drunk ass people causing obnoxious laughter, yelling, and music blaring to make you deaf...I already regret coming.
I internally groan debating to just get back in the back seat and sit there for the entire night instead. Vi raises her arms to sway with the music as she calls out to let everyone know she was there, wearing the shortest jeans shorts I had ever seen and a tube top that really showcases her large breasts. It was clear she was planning to attract the opposite sex to getting down and dirty.
What a slut. I smirk as I watch her shaking her ass already. She hasn't even drunk yet, and she was already acting like a soon be drunkard. And Rissa, looking gorgeous as all hell in a flowy skirt that reached just midthigh, along with a skintight spaghetti strap laced shirt that went down just above her pierced belly button and went perfectly with her tanned toned skin.
Her hair was glossy in beach waves and her makeup was spot on. That girl really needed to become a national makeup artist for celebrities, because she had major talent. And her intuition was amazing, because she didn't need to look back as she quickly grabs my hand and starts pulling me after her.
"Nope. You're already here, so you might as well enjoy yourself." She says with a beaming smile that I love so much.
I sigh dramatically, letting her drag me to join the crowd. I let this girl dress me up in tight black skinny jeans, no tears because honestly I wasn't a fan of them, matched with a belt, a long sleeve black shirt that nearly swallows my hands, but thankfully wasn't as tight on me, but still hugged me in a way and was loosely tucked in, in the front. Then I had on a washed-out blue jean jacket that I rolled the cuffs up showing my, many different kinds, bracelets I loved to wear.
With my earrings, chain necklace and black combat boots, I say I looked pretty good in the get up. Not to mention she had styled my lavender hair to where it looks so soft and fluffy. She didn't even bother with any real makeup on me, stating that my skin was too polished to be adorned with harsh concealment of foundation. So, she just put eyeliner and mascara on to heighten my eyes.
"Holy shit! You actually got him to come?!" Seth yells out joyously as he pushes his way through a bunch of people to get to us.
I hear a loud piercing whistle that made me cringe inside. "Hot damn, boy! If I was gay, I'd totally fuck you." Mateo says as he walks up with a red cup in his hand.
Annnnd this night just got ruined with that awful image in my brain. "If you were gay, I still wouldn't touch you the way you go sleeping around, you man slut." I recuperate back.
"Oh, burn." Rissa hisses, her hand over her mouth, and eyes gleaming in laughter.
Mateo just grins. "Hey, when he's right, he's right." He shrugs and takes a huge drink of his beer, followed by a large belch.
"You're so gross." She scrunches her face up, while taking a step back from him.
"Yo, this party is getting hella lit!" Seth's smile was huge as he too takes a drink from his own cup.
I couldn't help but look around to find a certain someone. But there were so many people it was hard to see through a bunch of bodies when the fire was causing shadows to dance around in the dark night. There was definitely more than one school here right now.
"Let's get something to drink!" Rissa yells over the noise and starts pulling me after her through the throng of dancing people that were brave enough to make fools of themselves in front of a crowd.
We hit a nearby keg, and I watch as she pours us some beers. Handing me one she immediately starts downing hers. I take a sip only to make a face at it. I will never understand why people find pleasure in drinking this shit. I decide to just hold the cup to make it look as if I was drinking the crap.
I look around the area once again and nearly freeze in my spot when I finally find him. There Matty was, looking all cute and adorable in just plain straight leg jeans and a sweater that had the title to his favorite anime show. As always, his hair was in that neat hairstyle he sports at school on a daily basis.
But he wasn't alone.
I watch transfixed as he laughs at something Zared says to him. They were surrounded by other people, with Zared sitting on the tail gate of some person's truck. I didn't even want to look at him knowing that, no matter what he wore he would look good in anything. But knowing that Matty has a crush on him, I check him out anyways. Just to remind myself what the competition was.
And it was a sad one...for me.
Black slim jeans, white flowy button up shirt that had the first two top buttons undone, showing smooth tanned skin and the sleeves rolled up just like mine were. He only had a silver chain bracelet on one wrist, while the other was a thin threaded one that he always wore no matter what he put on for that day.
He even wore it during his photoshoots. His hair was parted on the side and waved back in a style that gave him a sexy look. Ugh, it just pisses me off is what it does. But I couldn't blame Matty. Hell, I couldn't blame anyone for crushing on a guy like Zared. It was the reason he was the number one in our school.
"Oh, look! There's Zared and Christina!" Rissa cries out with a beaming smile. "Come on!" She snatches my hand again and forces me to tag along with her.
I don't try to look at either of them, but it was damn hard. Especially when Zared looks up and his eyes widen at seeing me here. He straightens up and hops off the tail gate making everyone turn to us, most likely wondering who he was looking at.
"Risssssa!" Christina slurs happily.
I watch her as she stumbles in our direction and practically falls on the poor girl. "Seriously? You're wasted! Ugh, you stink!" Rissa immediately complains all the while as Christina giggles unattractively.
"Thought you were working?" Matty gives me a tentative smile.
"I decided that maybe I do need a break after all." I mumble, not looking him directly in the eyes, it was just too hard too at the moment. I didn't want to start getting emotional already.
"That's good! I'm glad you came." He says, giving me a full-on smile now.
And my insides fucking melted like freaking butter.
Through this whole transaction only Zared was paying attention to us and I really wished he would just get lost already, but since he was here first, I couldn't very well tell him that. Didn't want to seem rude, even though I didn't really give a shit.
"So..." I look around as people were already getting drunk and rowdy.
"You haven't missed much. Just the occasional twerking, yelling while ripping of the shirts from the meatheads over there," Zared points to the football team, who were indeed shirtless. "Definitely passing of the bodily fluids. I don't see a diseased infested pond around, so I doubt we'll see any naked ass butt cheeks face palming into one of those," he looks all around us as he says that. "But I'm still holding out for the pissing into a random abandoned shoe, hopefully. I mean, the night is still young."
He looks back to me with a look of pure sarcastic seriousness. He is such an asshat, but...it made me smile anyways. What a jerk.
He clears his throat and looks away from my eyes. "Anyways, you haven't missed much." He mumbles.
"Wait, do people really do those kinds of things at parties?" Matty asks in bafflement.
His look was so ridiculously cute that I couldn't help but laugh, as did Zared when he looked at him as well. Which only sobered me up real quick cause it caused Matty to blush like crazy and I wasn't sure if it was out of embarrassment or something else entirely.
"So, what changed your mind about coming?" Seth throws an arm around my shoulders as he takes another gulp from his cup and sloshes beer down his front.
"Oh, come on dude!" I grimace as I try to get away from him.
"Heh, my bad." He grins sloppily.
"Okay, grabby hands. I think you're a bit wasted there." Zared comes froward and extracts him from me and the whiff of this amazing aftershave hits me right in the nose.
God damn asshole even fucking smells good. Just kill me now.
As he pulls Seth away, who was slurring as he tries to get back to our group, Matty steps up a bit closer to me making my heart flutter in that way he always does. I look down to him as he watches the two of them walk away.
"I'm really glad you came. I think I might be getting somewhere with him, but it's kind of terrifying to be here. I don't really socialize with anyone other than the two of you." He whispers to me.
And there goes my heart slamming back to the ground at my feet. "Has he given you any hints that he might, you know?" I ask in slight dread.
There was no possible way that Zared swung that way. At least he never gave any indication that he did. Was Matty just getting his hopes up for nothing? Was he really that desperate to believe that he had a chance with Zared, who was more than likely straight through and through?
Or am I just hoping that he was? Because I didn't want to see this happen? Why the hell was I here again?
He shrugs at me. "I mean he hasn't left my side the whole time we've been here, and he doesn't really seem interested in talking to anyone else. That says something right?" His eyes were big with hope and even though I wanted to dash it away, I knew I couldn't do that to him.
"Also, there was this girl that kept hitting on me, I think she was from a different school, but she kept flirting and grabbing my arms and getting all touchy." He shivers in distaste. "Zared was kind of mean to her and got her to leave me alone." He blushes in memory.
Of course, he did. Because he hated when anyone got into someone's personal space when it's clear they didn't want them there. I've seen It countless times with him over the years. It was the one thing he wouldn't stand from people.
Especially if they didn't know them. But Matty doesn't know that.
"I think I'm going to go for it." He suddenly says.
My heart twists painfully at his meaning. "Matty, I don't think that's-" I start out only to be interrupted.
"Well that was...pleasant." Zared scowls as he looks back from where he was coming from.
I turn to see Seth now passed out on the ground as Mateo and Travis were falling all over themselves laughing.
"What the hell happened to him?" I ask as I watch Vi walk over with a couple of girls, one of them hands her a permanent marker. She gives a devilish smile.
"We all know the rules! First one that hits the knockout, is the first," She pops off the lid of the pen, "To get marked up. Strip the birthday boy!" Cheers goes all around and I shake my head sadly.
"He drank too much is what happened and now he's going to regret it first thing in the morning. Hope he can get that shit off before Monday." Zared scoffs as we all watch as people took turns to draw and write all over his body.
I frown when Matty starts giving me a look with his eyes. He kept moving them to the side as if he wanted me to leave the two of them alone. Was he really going to go for it? When I wasn't moving, he starts to get a little more animated. Now I was getting irritated with the whole situation.
Puffing out an annoyed sound, I turn on my heel and start walking away. "Hey! Where are you going?!" Rissa calls out.
She has completely been oblivious this entire interaction, as her nose was stuck in another group, but once I walk out of her line of hearing she's instantly on my case. I just keep walking, and not looking back, I lift my cup as if to tell her I was getting a refill.
"But that one is still full." Zared calls after me.
Which only pisses me off more, hearing his stupid voice. So, I turn back around to face them, down the entire cup in gulps without stopping and then lift it upside down to show him it was now empty. Turning back around just as I see him come after me with a scowl on his face, I barely just catch Matty pulling him back saying something to him.
I get to the keg and pour me another cup, gulp that shit down and do it again. It was safe to say that I was instantly buzzing hard by my fourth cup.
