Chapter Fifty Two

When that door closed I didn't wait a second longer. I went straight for my room, grabbed mine and Zared's bag in quick session. As soon as I came through the doorway to get back to the others, Zared zips on by me, grabbing my hand, and pulls me roughly after him. I barely saw it and just that simple glimpse was enough to get my feet moving.

"Holy fuck!" Leo screams out, the thundering of the others' footsteps right behind me.

The door wasn't enough to hold those little things in as they slipped through the cracks and underneath the door frame. They were taking over the entire room and there were just so many of them too. How the hell were they all coming out of that tiny little body?

Zared slams the stairwell door open, and we rush inside. I hoped no one was falling behind since I wasn't really paying much attention to them. But they could definitely be heard as I hear Lani yell out,

"Hurry! They're getting closer!"

We all crowd in the small space of the stairwell, Zared and I don't wait as we already start heading down the stairs. I hear the door being slammed shut and the continuation of footsteps following us. The place was dark, and I slightly lose my footing since I couldn't see where I was going either.

Heavy breathing and scuffling feet were the only thing that could be heard as we all hurry the fuck out of there. And the worst part about all of this was the fact it was still night outside. Once we hit the landing I slam into Zared as he suddenly comes to a full stop. I nearly cried out, but he slams a hand over my mouth, pulling me to his chest and backs us away until he slams against the wall to the side.

My eyes widen at what was waiting outside. More fear like never before slams into me. Matty doesn't see us as he was about to zoom right on by us. Without thinking, I reach out, grab his arm, and pull him into me doing what Zared had done. I slam my hand over his mouth to get him to stop crying out in surprise.

The action caused all three of us to fall to the floor. But none of us says or does anything, our eyes fully on what was going on outside. Thank God Lacy saw us and carefully came to a stop just as the others did behind her. She couches down on the last few steps, looking outside as well.

We all stay put, close together. Matty doesn't move from out of my embrace even though I had dropped my hand from his face already. He clutches his arms around mine that was holding him close. Zared on the other hand doesn't release me at all, clutching me so tight it was kind of hard to breathe with my bruised torso. His hand was still over my mouth as well until I nudge him to allow me to breathe at least.

He instantly lets go, but he doesn't stop from holding me. I quickly look to whoever was the last person on the stairs to see Leo there, still looking behind him. More than likely making sure those things weren't still following us.

I wasn't sure if they would have been able to get past that door since it was one that didn't really allow any air to pass through. At least I hoped it didn't. This was an old hotel dated from decades ago. Who knows when the last time it was upgraded, if at all.

The moonlight was just right outside, showing us a good advantage of what was out there. In front of the doors was another one of those big, brained creatures, slowly walking around. But that wasn't what was causing me to panic. It was the other creature that was standing just outside the door, peering inside with its long thin body that almost looked human, but way too tall to ever be one.

It's arms were thin and long, their hands dragging on the ground where their fingers looked freakishly long as well. But it's face, from what I could see of it, held no face at all. In fact it was just a stretched out mouth with no eyes, no nose, and no ears. From my view point it looked like it's face was burned right off, and the skin healed over itself making it look tight and waxy.

The way it was moving was freaking me out as all hell too. It kept bumping into the door, then rubbing it's face all against the glass like it was trying to get in but couldn't. I had a feeling it had something to do with its hands and arms not moving very well. They were just letting them drag there as they moved away to the other side.

Suddenly a piercing scream sounds outside not too far from where we are. The faceless creature jerks its ugly head in the direction it came from, along with the other creature, and together they both start walking away. Another scream, different this time cries out a little further away. Then another, and another, like shooting fireworks in the sky.

Matty slaps his hands over his ears, his small body shaking horribly against me as he mumbles, "Make it stop, make it stop."

I lean closer to him, afraid that if he speaks any louder we were all fucked. "Matty, it's okay, you're not alone." I whisper next to his hand, seeing his eyes tightly closed.

He stops chanting the words and continues to breathe hard, not moving or looking at me. I turn around to Zared to see him with a worried frown staring at me then he looks to Matty. I wasn't sure what he was thinking. But it looked like it was going to be a long night ahead of us.

The screaming went on for hours. How they were able to find more people, when not a single soul had been around while we were traveling, was beyond me. Everything had become quiet for the last ten minutes, giving us a reprieve from listening to the horrid sounds and there was nothing any of us could have done to help any of them.

Those screams were going to haunt me for the rest of my life, no matter how short it may become. Eventually, I started shaking too at the ordeal. Lani and Christina both silently crying as Lacy and Leo held onto them. At some point Zared covered my ears with his hands to get the sound out, but I could still hear them, maybe a bit dull but they were still there.

He had leaned his forehead against my back a while ago and he still hasn't moved from that position. I knew it was his way to get some kind of comfort. I could feel his warm breath against my back and every now and then it would come out shaky.

"The sun should be almost up, once we see the first rays of sunshine we get the fuck out of here." Lacy whispers to us and we all agreed.

I could already see the light blue of the sky, but it wasn't enough to slip out without getting caught by those things. They were still roaming around out there, maybe not as many, but a few. It was only a matter of time before they all go back crawling in their holes until the sun was once again out of sight.

I jumped when a loud clang sounded just above us. We all quickly stared up the stairs, our breaths held as another loud clang shook the walls.

"Fuck." Leo hisses as he made the girls stand up quickly.

I already knew what was happening as I too got up with Matty's arm in my hand to get him to follow. Just as Zared stood behind me we all hear a loud crash of the door that was holding those tiny things and the creepiest crawling of legs hitting everywhere in the stairwell.

"Go! Go, go, go, go!" Lacy pushes us to get moving.

Matty was the first one out that front door with me and Zared right behind him. I turn around just to see the stairs already covered in the little bastards as they all came forward. They have been silent this entire time, so I wondered what the hell it was, that triggered them like this.

I kept running after Matty at first not really paying attention to where we were going. We were making way to much noise with our pounding feet and heavy breathing, but at this point I don't think any of us cared as long as we got the hell out of that place and away from those things.

Once I realized my surroundings, I start to slow down. But Matty didn't, in fact he kept on racing to who knew where and I knew he was freaking out, not paying attention either. I go to cry out his name, but instantly stop myself. The sun still wasn't fully up yet, and the monsters were still out.

Fuck! What the hell am I going to do? I couldn't allow him to keep putting distance between us like he was doing. I hesitated for just a moment and groaned internally. Damn it all to hell! I speed up my running, hoping to catch up to him before he disappeared from my sight all together and I would lose him.

I didn't check to see if Zared was following me or not, or if any of the others were. My sole thought was to get to Matty before he got himself killed. I see him turn a corner, the large buildings making the area still dark, and I prayed that we didn't encounter more monsters on the way.

I could hear footfalls behind me so I knew Zared had followed, there was no way he wouldn't being just as stubborn as I was when it came to each other. Turning the corner that Matty went I skid to a halt, nearly slamming into him with Zared nearly slamming into me.

He stood there shaking like a leaf and I didn't blame him because the corner he turned in was a dead end of an alley, but it wasn't just that it was a dead end. There in the corner was a group of more of that weird creature thing that had been at the front previously. And just when I thought that one was tall and lanky, it was nothing compared to these ones.

And together, theyall turned their faceless heads right in our direction.
