Chapter #38
(Mitch's POV)
I'm not so sure about this Don person. The mask keeps his face and emotions away from sight. And he is a Zemrlt on top of that. I mean I'll give him the benefit of a doubt on the whole 'not joining the war until now' thing, but I won't be blindly trusting. "Hey Mitch, what's a Zemrlt?", Jerome whispers to me. I can't help but smile upon hearing his voice. I'm so glad to have my brother back. I really missed him incase you couldn't tell. (A/N WHY MITCH WHY! Now I have to fix the forth wall before the shippers get in!) I feel kinda bad for blowing up on Sky like that, after what he did for me. But I'm still mad about how he basically abandoned us....... I hope he comes back.
We break through the trees and back into camp, Don talking to Ty at the front. Jason trails behind them, with Quinten after him, and Jerome and I bringing up the rear. All the other Zemrlt warriors that came with Dan are setting up a camp of their own where Jason found them. I don't yet know how he's related to Don, but I have noticed a few things they have in common. Jason has a tan that's different then how pale the Zemrlt are, but not as much as he should with how much he's been outside. They all cock their heads when asking questions. That's a little strange. And of corse there's the eyes. But, as far as I know, Jason doesn't have ridges on his torso. I would've seem them against his shirt when he would walk by now.
Ty suddenly groans and stops. The rest of us stop walking in confusion, almost bumping into each other. "I totally forgot...... I invited the other four leaders of the camps here to talk about an attack through the catacombs. I wanted to talk to you, Don, a little bit before they got here, but looks like we're too late", Ty explains, gesturing to a group of horses tied up along the fence of our own horse corral. "That's ok, it'll just be better if we get this all this crazy stuff done in one meeting", Don laughs.
"Ok, they all should be in the meeting tent. Um, Quinten could y-", Ty starts, being cut off by the fish himself. "Yeah, I-I know. Come on, Jason", Quinten sighs. "But Whyyyyy", Jason wines as they walk off. "Mitch, Jerome, can you two join the meeting? I'd like you guys to be present, even it's not really your thing", Ty asks us. "I guess....", I groan. "It can't be that bad", Jerome argues.
(Time skip)
"Ok, it is pretty bad", Jerome whispers into my ear. We've been listening to the five camp leaders and Don argue for a few hours at this point. "I say we run while they're not looking", I say back. Sure, planning battle strategies isn't that bad, but getting six high ranking people to agree is not as easy as it looks. Politics are not my strong suit. They were really surprised to find Ty in charge instead of Jordan. He's not the only missing leader, though. The leader of the fourth camp has apparently decided to call it quits. Max's replacement said that he was going to go looking for someone, and to not expect him back anytime soon. That means we have Ty, Don, Lachlan, Stacy, Nick, and Ant who is taking Max's place.
A recruit suddenly opens the tent flap, getting the attention of everyone in the room. "U-Um Ty? There's someone who found this place at the gates, and they keep yelling about different people and demanding to be let in....", they awkwardly say. Ty sighs before looking at Jerome and I. "I'm on it! It's really no problem bye!", I spout before rushing out of the tent. Jerome says something similar before following me. We both rush over to the gates, simply glad to be out of that Notch forsaken meeting.
I skid to a halt at the sight before me. "Who the heck is he?", Jerome asks in confusion. "I think I have a guess at where he came from", I mumble. A short teen in an oversized, grey hoodie with blue eyes is at the entrance to the camp, arguing with the guards to get in. He's..... wearing a horn? And there's a squirrel tail attached to the bottom of his hoodie. "No, it's me! Ross! R-O-S-S, Ross. Is he here? Um, I kn-know he likes gold, but I can't remember his n-name right now", he yells at the slowly gathering crowd. "Do you think he's talking about Sky? It looks like he might have the same memory thing", I ask Jerome. Before Jerome answers, Quinten comes running up to us with Jason in tow. He skids to a stop in front us, slightly panting. "I know w-who Ross is....", Quinten mumbles.
"You do!?", Jerome and I both shout. Quinten flinches back a little at our outburst. "Sk-Sky talked about him once when we w-were alone. He said 'Ross was always scared of them', when Sky was talking about the s-scars on his back", Quinten explains. I make a second split decision, quickly pushing through the crowd and standing in front of Ross. "Let him through, Ty wants to see him", I lie. The entrance guards look at me, but don't object when I grab Ross's arm and lead him into the camp. The small teen seems a little nervous as he follows behind me.
Jerome, Quinten, and Jason chase after us as I run over to a spot behind the medical ward. "Thank you for letting me in, but who are you?", Ross asks me once we stop moving. I've figured by now that he's one of the 'insane assassins', but Ross honestly doesn't look like he'd hurt anybody. He doesn't have the same warrior vibe that Sky has. His one dagger, without a single scratch, tells me that he must not fight very much. "Mitch, my name is Mitch", I answer, deciding to trust him, "That's Jerome, Jason, and Quinten".
Ross looks at them before a wide grin stretches across his face. "YOU LOOK SO FLUFFY!? ARE YOU FLUFFY!?", he yells, almost tackling over Jerome while trying to pet him. "AND YOU LOOK SO BLUE!", he screeches at Quinten, Who flinches back a couple os steps. This seems to somehow knock him out of whatever sugar high he's on. "O-Oh, I-I did it a-again, didn't I? I'm sorry. I don't w-want to do that", Ross mumbles, shrinking back away from us. "It's ok Ross, no harm done", Jerome reassures him, "Are you looking for Sky?". "Who's Sky?", Ross asks in confusion. Oh boy..... how do you deal with someone like this?
"Well, you ran in here looking for Sky, right?", I ask him. "Sky's missing? WHAT ARE WE STANDING HERE FOR THEN!? Let's go FIND HIM", Ross explodes before trying to run off in a random direction. Jerome grabs his hood right before he can escape. "Sky was h-here a few days a-ago", Quinten blurts to a squirming Ross. "He was? Where did he go?", Ross asks, Jerome letting him go. "He went back to where ever your home is. You can probably find him there", I explain. Ross looks away from me, soon looking back with a confused face. "I don't r-remember how I got here...", he mumbles. Now he looks really scared. Ross seems to have really strong emotions, along with the memory thing. This could be a problem.
"Ok, I'm going to talk to Ty about this. You guys stay here with Ross", I say. Jerome nods, and I quickly run back into the camp. I go back to the tent and slip inside. Lachlan and Nick are arguing back and forth over something that I don't care about right now. I sneak over to Ty and grab his arm to get his attention. "Ty, the person at the gates was looking for Sky. He has the same memory condition and can't remember how to get back to the guild", I quietly say. "Really? I wonder how they even got here? This place is suppose to be hard to find. What's their name?", Ty asks me. "Ross, his name is Ross", I reply.
"Wait, Ross!?", a new voice says. I turn my head to see that Ant has walked over, the other leaders wanting to know what's interrupting their meeting. "You know Ross?", Ty asks in confusion. "No, I don't know him", Ant says, "But Max does".
