.:Chapter 1:.
Don't forget that day.
Don't forget the dust filling your lungs you fled away.
Don't forget the sight of your world crushed before your eyes.
Don't forget those same eyes that filled with tears for seconds after, days after, years after.
Don't forget how you rebuilt your world with pain filled heartaches covered with jokes and joyous smiles.
Don't forget fixing and mending the damage done.
Don't forget your friends or who you are.
Forget, him.
Edd jolted awake with jittery, choppy breaths as a scream rolled down his throat and out his mouth before he could comprehend what was happening. He held his churning stomach as he felt beads of sweat drip down from his forehead to his already drenched light grey muggy shirt, where the words 'Smeg Head' seemed to disappear in the soaked cloth. His soft dark chocolate eyes welled up with tears as he tried to regain control of this thoughts and heart rate, getting a grip on reality.
With a click and a rush of air, his bedroom door opened, the darkness of his room swallowing the figure that made its way into his abode. Edd stayed focused on his breathing and calming the river of salty tears that streamed down his cheeks, rubbing his eyes and choking on heavy breaths.
Two arms quickly wrapped around Edd, lifting him out of his sheets with ease as it seemed as he was held in a soft embrace that smelt of strong cologne almost killing the smell of underlying lavender and sugar cookies. "Breathe, calm, it was just a dream." A soft yet strong voice cooed into Edds ear, as they loosened their grip on Edd, setting him back on his tossed sheets. Edds vision cleared as the person comforted him, sitting close and wiping Edds tears off his cheeks for him. Edd tried to speak, only struggling as his airway was occupied by his hitching breaths as he sniffled and sobbed.
The person pulled Edd close again, his nose filling with the same sweet comforting smell of freshly picked lavender and daises with a dash of newly baked cinnamon sugar cookies, sadly covered with heavy cologne. Edd gripped onto what he could, being a soft cotton shirt bound quite tight to the figure that comforted him. Managing to get a grip onto the shirts fabric, he slowly started to calm. His breaths became less ragged, his gentle eyes ceased to pour out tears, his heartbeat dropped to its normal beat, finally at ease. Edd looked up at the gentle person whom had cared and calmed him for however long it took for him to return to a stable physical state, while his mind still recovered and whirled around.
"Matt?" Edd managed to utter his gentle giant of a friends name, the ginger smiled back, the only light allowing him to be seen was the reflecting light from Edds window as the faint glow of street lights shone through.
"Hey Edd, are you alright now? I'm sorry I took too long, I almost tripped on one of my mirrors as I rushed out of bed when I heard you call out." Matts freckled cheeks spread as he flashed a soft smile at his friend, clearly genuinely concerned. He gently let go of Edd, still looking at him with worried eyes.
Edd nodded in reply, his dark brown messy hair falling in his face. "T-Thank you." He spoke with a small stutter as he grew embarrassed of his situation, he knew exactly what had happened and the same thing has been happening periodically for almost 3 years now.
"I'm so sorry you keep having these dreams still, have you still considered going to a doctor for this, yet?" Matts voice seemed to be laced with urgency as he spoke, raising his eyebrows at Edd.
Edd sniffled, rubbing his right shoulder and shrugging. "I wouldn't call them dreams, more like night terrors." He paused for a moment, thinking of a reply that wouldn't cause Matt to bug him more about going to the doctors or seeing a therapist, "I have weighed my options. It might be best for me work through this on my own. I'm sorry for waking you up at such an ungodly hour."
Matt quickly shook his head in reply, his ginger hair shining as light bounded off it from the window. "First of all, I'm happy to be awake to comfort you, unlike someone-" He cut himself off, giving a small glance towards the door. "Second-" he moved his head back to allow his kind blue eyes to look at Edd with compassion, "I don't know if you really know what's best for yourself at this point, Edd."
Edd stared at Matt with colder eyes, a small hitch in his breath could be audibly heard among the thick silence that fell upon the room. Matt stood up, leaving Edd on his bed. "You need to get some more sleep while you can. I'll also be calling the doctors office in the morning." Matt spoke with some form of command but with more concern than anything.
"But-" Edd tried to speak up but Matt cut him off with a shake of his head. "No buts, you've waited too long to fix this your way, we need a second opinion. Its for your own good." He walked to the door quickly, noticing Edds expression growing worried. Matt frowned, knowing what thoughts were running through his head.
"He can't hurt you anymore, now rest."
With that, Matt softly closed Edds door as he walked out of the room, leaving Edd to the chirping crickets and sounds of silence that now occupied the empty looming space of his room.
Edd laid his head on his pillow, curling into a fetus position, too mentally exhausted to bother with his blankets. He tried closing his eyes, quickly his mind was filled with images and noises that jolted his eyes back open, a small phrase repeating through his thoughts.
"He can't hurt you anymore."
"He can't hurt you."
"He hurt you."
