Puddle
The green haired teen let out a huff of air as he stood at next to his desk, a testpaper in hand. His face was the same as ever, a pale creamy complexion that just brings out the worst of the dark under his eyes which pupils shine an almost crystal-like, emerald green. There was a small tremble on his hand though he was gripping his paper firmly and he could already feel a headache in coming.
His test paper showed a bright red 85/100 on the very top, much like all his other tests, almost creepily coincidental so. It keeps him in the upper echelon of the class but not enough that people rely on him. It... was hard for him to keep his straight 85's.
Life is harsh.
He let out another solemn sigh, he moved to sit by his desk but quickly stopped when he felt an ever so familiar pair of strong arms drape loosely on his shoulders into a half hearted, loose hug.
"Midoriya-kun- woah! Your grades!" He gasped, "geez, still keeping up at that 85 streak of yours? Aim a little higher! I'm starting to think that you're just purposely trying to get 85's now!" He laughed, well it's not like he was lying, Izuku was definitely, 100% trying to keep up his streak of 85's. He can almost feel the smile on the others face.
"I don't get it, you tutor me and all but I still get better grades than you! I don't know if I should feel bad or what!" The teen complained. Sure enough, one of the arms draped loosely around him slid off, if only to show him the test paper with 'Kirishima Eijirou' written messily on the top and a bright, grand 93/100 at the other side.
"It's alright." He said, although it didn't stop Kirishima from whimpering like a puppy, cute, Izuku let out a small laugh as he gently pet him, "I just forgot most of it! You should be glad that you got a high grade. No need to worry about me. I'll just try better next time." He said with a grin, it still didn't seem to satisfy Kirishima who was still pouting.
"I should really stop asking you for help dude. Maybe the reason you won't get anything above an 85 is 'cause you're too busy drilling the lessons to me for you to get it yourself!" Kirishima whined, "I'll do good on my own! Promise!" Izuku sighs.
"I already said it was alright- and no! The last time you tried that, your grades plummeted, remember?" The teen said with a chuckle, "it's fine, I like helping you. I think I'd probably miss it if I can't do it anymore." Not to mention, unless Izuku forces him to, Kirishima never studies for anything.
"Aw- dude!" Finally, the sad tone from him left and he felt the other teen nuzzle his cheek, "so manly! Hey actually- how about I treat you after school for all your help? That's fair, right?"
"Hm? No it's alright-"
"I know this place that sells real good Katsudon!"
"Well I mean I do have some free time! Let's go together later!" Izuku chirps and Kirishima laughs from the ever expected reaction.
This is Izuku's classmate, Kirishima Eijirou. They're currently in their third year of junior high and halfway into the last semester. Izuku has known him since the entrance ceremony of the school, it just so happens that they ended up on the same class. He was looking for someone timid and weak, a bit insecure but someone nice enough and the raven haired teen seem to fit the description well enough, halfway into the school year, Kirishima suddenly started transforming into a bundle of energy and excitement and now, Izuku can't get rid of him.
Not that he wants to.
He doesn't know anyone else who wants to be friends with...
...
Well, but first. He kept a smile on as he was hit with the ever so familiar throbbing, painful headache. Kirishima's smile immediately faltered, noticing that something is off with his friend. He's been awfully perceptive of anything that doesn't involve academics. Izuku would call him an empath but he thinks it'll be weird to say it out loud.
"Midoriya...?"
"Yeah?" He replied, gently shrugging off the warm arms that were still wrapped around him although their hold was firmer than before as if hesitant, they soon gave in and let him escape. Kirishima's a softy like that.
"Not doing so well?"
"I'll be fine." He unconsciously touched his head and Kirishima gave him a dissapointed frown.
"Dude, I told you to get that checked like, 2 years ago!"
"I did." He lied.
"You're lying!" Kirishima said, pointing a finger at him, Izuku just chuckles.
"I'll be fine! I'm sure it's nothing serious-"
"Dude, that thing has been going on for two years. Aren't you worried? I get that we're superhumans and all but..." Kirishima bit his lip, looking down, "seriously, get that checked out already, it might be too late if you get that checked out on a later date."
Izuku knows exactly what Kirishima is talking about. If anything, the sudden genetic mutation from quirks actually upped the chances of getting diseases close to that- not that it mattered that much since quirks also helped in better recovery and eradication of diseases like it, but the ravenette has nothing to worry about, Izuku knows the exact cause of his headaches and it's definitely nothing worrying, it's actually quite helpful. Not to mention, Izuku really has gotten used to it, Kirishima thinks it's only been 2 years but it's been longer than that.
He's not sure how Kirishima would react if he said he had it since birth so he keeps quiet about it, instead, he lets out a soft chuckle.
"I'll be alright! I'll just get some meds at the nurse." Izuku says, walking forward to finally face Kirishima, the raven haired teen looks even more worried now.
"Dude..."
"Really! I'll be fine- see you after school!" Izuku says, he already knows what he's going to do, he's gonna sleep in the nurses's office like always when he gets a headache. His grades are high enough that they just let him and his teachers are kind enough. Especially with his status, everyone practically treats him like glass or well, like dirt.
Kirishima frowned as he watched Izuku leave the classroom, worry written on his features. He clenched his hand and hesitantly- followed.
Izuku paused, just a bit when he felt someone- Kirishima looking at him. He's always been a worrywart over Izuku's well being due to his status, though he usually never follows Izuku outside of the classroom unless they've made plans beforehand. Nevertheless Izuku just kept on walking, making a turn and there he saw it, a rat chewing up something from the wall that looks like it shouldn't be getting chewed on at all.
He stared at it, and soon enough it stops to look back and meet his gaze, that went on for a little while he before he took out a bun of bread from his bag, still wrapped up in its paper wrap. It immediately scurried to him as he leant down to let the rodent feed on it, at the same time, he heard footsteps from behind and a gasp- soon followed by a jeer and a laugh.
"What the hell?! Are you so desperate for a friend that you'll start talking with rats?!" Izuku just closed his eyes as he staggered a bit, he knows the feeling of a shoe pressed against his back well enough, atleast they weren't wearing high heels. The voice was from a girl named Aiyako if he could remember and he quirk was spinning threads of some sort of silk like material from her wrists with protein as the fuel.
"Atleast give him something more than that. Even if I was a rat I wouldn't want to be friends with a quirkless loser like you, especially if all you can give me is some stale looking bread." The voice should come from Mitsumi, someone with pink hair that forms into a mouth at will at the ends of it. Izuku remembers her as the girl who ate red crayons in kindergarten. It sure takes him back, he kind of missed that Mitsumi, atleast her babyself didn't make fun of him like this. She was holding a water bottle though it's cap doesn't seem to be anywhere near.
Still, it's not like he can do anything. Better to just let it past, the granny paws of the rodent held unto the bread and Izuku quickly let it go. The rat quickly ran with it quick and Izuku can already hear them laughing at him for failing to even befriend a rat, soon he felt cold water run down his hair, clothes, and skin, but that was the last of it and they quickly left him alone.
Izuku stood up, already too tired to deal with that ordeal. He can still the familiar gaze on him, had been there, from start to finish, not that it matters because as soon as he makes a move to look backwards, it quickly disappears and scurries away.
It's alright, atleast he knows that he's going to end up with two katsudons instead of one today.
As he walks, just right where the wall was chipped, was some faint noticeable sparks. It... probably hit some wires then. Izuku quickly ignores it since it really has nothing to do with him and he reaches the nurses's office soon enough. The nurse looks at him with the usual expression on her face which is disdain, not that he minds. She doesn't bother him and he doesn't bother her. He lays down on one of the beds and rests.

"Hey hey, Midoriya-kun?" His eyes slowly open with that familiar voice calling out to him. Once he opened his eyes fully, Kirishima was there, his eyes was darting everywhere but him while fiddling with his thumb, there was a hitch to his breath before he lets himself speak, "er, it's a little past after the school bell rang," he says, Izuku nods, slowly sitting up.
"Thanks for waking me up." He said, "I feel better after I took the medicine. It make me sleepy though." The nurse only glances at him, knowing full well that he did not request even the tiniest bit of assistance from her as he slept away- but Izuku will out the alcohol in her bag if she says anything so she can squint at him suspiciously all she wants.
He quickly got off from the bed, Kirishima, for some reason, had replaced his timidness with a burst of courage as the ravenette clenched his fist.
"It's fine! Do you still want to get the katsudon you wanted?" Izuku nodded- perhaps even too quickly but it just makes Kirishima grin wide, "I'll carry your bag too! I can't make a sick person carry their things!" Izuku would protest if he wasn't so tired and if he didn't so badly wanted to just eat some delicious, hot katsudon... Katsudon... he felt his mouth salivate. Not to mention- Kirishima was already carrying his bag anyways.
"Thanks, you're the best!" Izuku replies, a happy smile on his face. Kirishima responded with something just as bright, letting out a chuckle as red bloomed on his face out of bashfulness. He quickly grabs Izuku's wrist and chattered happily as he lead him out of the nurse's office,
"Thanks, you're the best." Izuku replied, a small smile on his face. Kirishima laughed, red blooming on his face out of bashfulness as he quickly grabs Izuku's wrist to lead him out of the nurse office and out of the school.
