Guitar Picks
Some backstory as to why I'm making these. Basically, about a month ago I was on video call with my friends and I'm only able to meet one of them once a year. He plays guitar and showed me how to play one song and said that if I get good at it until we meet, he would give me his Eddie Van Halen pick. A bit later he gave the idea to swap some stuff when we meet, so we could have something of each other while we're away. That came from the fact that my other friend gave him a ring last year and he's been saving it.
So I started thinking about what could I possibly give him and decided that if he's going to give me a pick, I should too. The problem is that my local guitar store only has the basic ones and I'm not really allowed to order anything online, besides, I wouldn't really know what to order.
Then I came up with the idea of making my own pick but decided against it and instead, when going to the store for a strap holder, got two identical 50 cent worth picks.
I had a lot of stuff going on for the past couple of weeks so I had no time to decorate but since I'm now stuck under quarantine because I returned from a different country and I'm not vaccinated I have a lot of time and I'm finishing up random projects laying around.
OK, to the main point now
At first I sanded them and got rid of the logos and the text
Then I covered them in white acrylic paint as a base (yes, I know that it's almost invisible in the pic)
Then I started painting one black but didn't finish because it looked way too cool to cover up. So my original idea to make two similar picks was destroyed but whatever.
Then I started carving the paint off of the black pick what was my original idea. That resulted in a broken toothpick but here's the result:
Then I covered them in transparent acrylic glue to make the paint stick better but I had a trouble with that on the black pick because I accidentally put on too much and it started going off together with the paint. I managed to fix it tho.
Then I covered them in nail polish and this is the end result:
I really love how they turned out, I was expecting them to be so much worse.

Okay, so when I was typing that, I hadn't tried them yet. Now I have. At first they were super weird to play because of the nail polish, so I sanded a little bit of it off.
After that the half white half black one was pretty nice to play with. It's a bit different from normal picks because it's somehow softer, but I could get used to it. I'd say 8.8/10.
The other one however is not really good. It feels kinda squishy and it feels weird against the strings. It's totally possible to play with but isn't the most comfortable thing. Maybe 5/10.
Thinking about it now, I probably should have done this with spray paint or something but I have none anyway. I don't really know if I'm going to actually give these to anyone, since they're not the best thing ever made, so... I'll see tho. And even if I do, it for sure will be the black and white one because that's the one that doesn't suck completely.
So yeah, I guess I might update after a little more than a months because that's when the meet is scheduled to tell the friend's reaction if I end up giving it away. Idk tho
